It is the only big franchise that could theoretically make a seemless transition to open world and be better off for it. Pokemon is based on exploration and collecting. Open world games tend to feel empty because there's nothing to do but not only do the Pokemon themselves provide value to every area in an overworld, they're also infinite potential for crafting side quests.

No one tell him
You're right, you'll get cynical response but it's true. Sadly only PLA has come close to kind of realizing this in playable format. Ideally we'd get both open world style games and smaller, simpler top down games too which both have their own unique appeal
Funny how so many were dying for a 3D open world Pokémon game for so long and when we get one it’s filled with lags, glitches, and LGBT characters. GF can’t even put out a solid game when they have plenty of a budget to make one. They fell slave to the Corporate America business model
Is Pokemon the most "monkey's paw" franchise?
Yes
You need to wait at least 2 more gens for them to do what they should've done. Just like in Gen 5 they finally caught up to what they should've been doing technology wise on GBA (animated sprites, various battle backgrounds)
and even with those lags and glitches it's still by far the most fun and replayable pokemon campaign ever made
really makes you think
>replayable
I liked SV but I'm not feeling another playthrough of a Pokemon game that long
>and LGBT characters.
im gonna be real if you care about this at all you're a fricking loser, who the hell cares
if you care about whether or not someone else cares you're probably an even bigger loser
Uh oh looks like someone needs to dilate urgently
uh oh, somebody call the wamblulance, the freakoid got a sads
>and LGBT characters
Can you provide the existence of these characters without using schizo headcanons and meaningless buzzwords?
shit vomit are the most disgusting games I’ve ever played. USUM are the last real pokemon games apart from half-assed remakes like bdsp
No its linear since BS like gyms are a thing
OW needs infinite challenges and Shitfreak struggles to program trainer battles
100% agree and I must add that I was about to drop this series if gen IX had been anything like VIII
Open world is a cancer that needs to die. It has ruined every franchise it's touched and leads to lazier game design. Why actually design a structured and well-paced game when you can make a big empty field and copy paste the same content over and over again
Well I hope you're not a Nintendo fan since they got hit by the open world bug this gen and aren't stoppin
>structured and well-paced
define what this means
>moronic zoomer assumes all open world game are shit because his generation only ever known shitty slop
Open Worlds can only work with set stats meaning no levels so its literally impossible for pokemon to Open World. In an Open world RPG your characters has no levels instead you can make them stronger overtime with stat boosts, the enemies also have random power levels depending on the area you are in, it keeps you guessing I supposed and the bosses are randomly powerful some will kill you in one hit, some are jokes, the fun is finding a path where you dont get a game over in seconds you know like in real life. Thats open world RPG bro.
As for story content, it would have basically be like an actual world with constantly changing events in the background in other words there is no finalized story theres an ongoing story that never stops at all and randomly changes depending on where you go on the map or whatever.
What an absolutely moronic post.
Level scaling as in everytime you move into an area the enemies become your level turns the game into torture.
too bad the only devs Nintendo trust with their IP can't program it.
>structured and well-paced game
i agree
open world is usually a very bland genre, but games like gta nail it off by having a ton of interesting things for the player to discover or do in the vast overworld
something like assassins creed or genshin is absolutely not a good example though, since the things you do in those games are very limited, although something like botw is good enough since it does have some minigames and ton of sidequests to keep things interesting
pokemon on the other hand doesnt need to go either way since it is a monster collection at core, and even just having a variety of mons discoverable in each location is more than enough to satisfy players
that's why i enjoyed scarlet/violet so much more than past games, it really felt refreshing to just explore the world for any rare mons
i dont know if pokemon will continue this trend. but i am glad there are at least two open world monster collection games on the horizon now
dokev might take a while to release, but roco kingdom is entering closed testing later this month and may even have open beta soon
People are currently waiting for old game remakes because your open world meme is shit.
