I've seen people say that it's inspired by the Haussmann Renovation
Past of what?
Future of what?
The game could be set right after of XY and it would still be considered past to current timeline. And also it years after current events and still not be "future" enought to be futuristic.
That said, it obviously contemporanian, advanced technologically but will not be a Cyberpunk like and neither medivel. So, present.
Sorry, past would refer to taking place prior to XY, while future would refer to taking place after XY

I'm guessing either it's in the past the entire time or jumps between the past and present as some are speculating. I really don't get the "it HAS to be the future" points when it mainly just bounces off how they teased Lumiose City and the idea that the city is being renovated. The latter point is especially frustrating: not only does it ignore how long real-life Paris has existed and grown throughout its history, but all the sheets mentioning the project are clearly in a similar old-fashioned style like a lot of Legends Arceus.
Bonus Question:
What time do you think the game takes place in, and what was your stance on the Imagination vs. Time Travel debate from SV?
Curious to see if any trends pop up
It'll take inspiration from the hausmann renovation, but may be set around the time of Legends: Arceus, which was set around 1920's. Per the canon, pokéballs are a recent invention per the time of Arceus, so I really don't think Kalos will have pokéball tech a hundred years before Galar unless they set a hard date for their invention and set L: Z-A shortly after that, but easrlier than L: A.

inb4 but le futuristic trailer
obviously is to show the blueprints/vision of architects
I remember when you people were insisting that Terapagos was a dreamcatcher and it ended up not being that at all.
Fricker the trailer was a blueprint of a city, why would we be playing years after the blueprint isn't needed anymore and not while the blueprint would be in active use.
We'll be playing in the same time period as PLA, which shock surprise is when Paris was getting overhauled and the Eiffel tower was being built.
If you paid attention to the blueprint you would see that it looks drastically different from present Lumios with the plazas having been replaced with rocky areas and bodies of water.
Hell, even the trailer shows Pokemon that aren't in Lumios City normally like Dragonair and Ariados
It doesn't seem any bigger if you compared it to the smash stage. Plus the trailer says it's to "get pokemon and humans to live together" which first of all was kind of the theme of PLA too, but also in x and y Lumiose is already full of pokemon and humans living together.

>It doesn't seem any bigger if you compare it to the Smash stage
It's not about looking bigger than the smash bros stage, the five plazas legitimately look completely different than in XY. >The trailer says it's to "get Pokemon and humans to live together"
They mean WILD Pokemon, and it's talking about adapting the city to the needs of those Pokemon.
For the purpose of gameplay, there needs to be a reason why the entire Kalos dex is suddenly inside of Lumiose when there isn't a single wild encounter in the modern day.
We also literally just had a game with 4 artificial biomes located inside a single building.

I can see it, those are sound arguments. I think both past and future settings could happen, one or the other. I personally would rather have it set in the past like PLA but the trailer and title graphic does make it look more future-themed. We'll see.

The most realistic theory I've heard was that there could be some time travel involved which would allow us to switch between the past and future.
In the trailer, there is a Fletchling that seems to evolve and devolve so that could be a hint.

Could be, but that would also require making two technically different cities instead of one which isn't something I trust GF with.
But also if you're redeveloping a whole city, I don't see how we're going to see it develop in real time. Buildings take years to be built, so it would be really cheap for the game to be like >oh you finished the western building main quest and got the materials, now here's a 5 seconds black screen with building sounds and voila, a giant 10 floors building has appeared
Would be jarring. It's not like it's a PLA house or something. But hey maybe the redevelopment is just something like parks which would be easier but also lamer as the gimmick for a whole game.
Damn, Lumiose is gonna be more detailed as the only place in a switch game then in a 3ds game who woulda thunk.

Fricking stunning. A system more powerful than a potato is able to portray a HIGHLY detailed map of a city that was but a stepping stone to the next gym to be then moved away from on its original appearance. It;s almost as if they're showing us how sprawling the city they conceived actually is, despite how they presented it in-game prior.
You should go back to middle school if your reading comprehension is genuinely this bad.

I said no such thing, I understood it was time travel from the outset, which is why I'm confident it's what I said - inspired by French real-world history, but late enough for the pokémon time period that pokéballs are a thing. How can someone apparently clever enough to understand SV's plot suddenly pick up the moron ball and run it in for a safety?

Isn't the future obvious?
I've seen people say that it's inspired by the Haussmann Renovation
Sorry, past would refer to taking place prior to XY, while future would refer to taking place after XY
It can be inspired by it and still take place 13 years after X and Y
the "futuristic" look is meant to look like a blueprint, silly

I took it to me before XY, retelling if XY, or after XY
It's not before, for sure.
In that logic is obviously after XY, because AZ came back.

I think a story set in 1860s france where you solve cases with the ancestor of Looker would be cool, so this would never happen.

Are you a broken record? Fix yourself up
Play the games, rewatch the trailer. TRY to understand why the "futuristic" cityscape is bookended by clearly inked plans.
I remember when you people were insisting that Terapagos was a dreamcatcher and it ended up not being that at all.
Clearly the same people.

You just see what you want to see, that's the point.
Is it just me, or has the quality of threads on this board taken a nosedive in the past few days?
Blame reddit tourists
It's going to be the present, 11 year time skip after X and Y
There's nothing much that can be said but I believe it's a direct sequel to XY with adults protagonists.
I place my bets on the late 1800s - early 1900's
Hard to believe it's anything other than the past.
I mean the term "legends" itself references the past. How could it be about the future really?

I think it will probably be about 100 or so years in the past, but I really want it to be in the future.
I don't know if this could help anyone but this is all I found to peek your interest. About Z-A
The starters?
It's called legends
of course it's going to be in the past moron
