I'm actually surprised how rare it is to find ammo for it and the pump shotgun. Also surprised they're the two best ballistic weapons in the whole game despite having very few mods available.

Makes sense because they're rarely used by enemies, you have to stock up at stores and the ammo is pricey (40 for 1k credits with no perks)
Dog, you are so ridiculously wrong. The mag<x> guns are the most broken guns in the game. If you use the Revenant (Crimson Fleet end quest mag rifle) with the rifles perk filled, you can kill the guardians at the end of the main story base so fast it bugs out the tracker.
I really am liking the DIY-aesthetic it has until I read the absurd amount of damage value it puts out. Then I liked it even more.

Dude no joke, the Revenant hits everything like a truck including my wallet. Easily the best gun available early-mid game. Has a cool 'dead space' like aesthetic with the lasers in third person mode too.

I found a trick that allows you reroll high level drops. Drop an elite enemy (above level 80 preferably) to 10% life or less and quick save
Let them bleed out or finish them off and then you can sit there and loot the body for their guaranteed drop and it will reroll Everytime you load your save state allowing you to roll for a perfect weapon
Mind you it took me 8 hours straight to finally roll a gun with insti/hitman/shattering but it can be done without console commands

The knife/pistol in the same hand was a tactic from before lights and such were mounted on the gun, no longer requiring a hand to be free to operate bulkier equipment. You can see this change take place with Solid Snake and Old Snake both using the pistol over/knife under two handed method.
