I never liked the animation in Metal Slug. The detail was nice but what I appreicate most is weight, mass, and momentum in animations. SotN's walk cycle is a really good example of it. Most of the movement is in the cape, which moves "realistically" with alucard shifting his weight from his weight from leg to leg. When he stops, you can see the momentum carrying his upper body forward slightly, and the cape crashing into his back before he settles on his heels. Every pixel that moves is part of one coherent system.
Metal Slug never really gave that feeling to me. Take in this gif, when the gun fires, none of that force is imparted on the crab, so while there's a lot detail, it doesn't really f eel like a powerful boom.
Has this guy made anything since? Last I heard of him many a year ago he'd seemingly keep working on a new game idea only to scrap it and start over after a few animations. Interesting to think he was at one point praised as one of the top pixel H guys.
He half made a porn game, focused mostly on the ending boss animations, then moved on to another porn game without ever finishing the actual game part of it

I've been working on an game that's pretty much elona with h-scenes. Is it worth it to try to make detailed over world sprites and do pixel art scenes, or should I do simplier sprites with full drawn scenes?
Personally, I prefer animated pixel scenes and typically skip drawn scenes, but the most important thing is actually getting it finished so make your goals realistic.
sprites beat art any day of the fricking week, nothing more boring than having gameplay interrupted by a slideshow of random disjointed art commissions. further points removed if there's moronic porn audio rips playing over the still images

Personally, I prefer animated pixel scenes and typically skip drawn scenes, but the most important thing is actually getting it finished so make your goals realistic.
