It won't boot for me on my ED64+
I followed the instructions but it just won't work for some reason. ROM's probably too big for it or something like B3313 was, even though it (Portal64) claims to be real hardware compatible.
> ErectileDysfunction64pus
there's your problem.
when hohol wrote the firmware, he only accounted for the largest commercial N64 rom size ever (512 Megabits).
anything larger than that will get err'd.
>ROM's probably too big for it or something like B3313 was
I'm pretty sure B3313 doesn't run on real hardware for other reason. I remember it having tons of glitches if you used an emulator that uses something too accurate like paraLLEl-RDP
I had the same problem on my side, rom it built was slightly bigger than it was supposed to be for some reason don't know if my Steam files are fricked-up or what but I downloaded a prebuilt ROM from archive.org and it worked.
Very impressive for the N64 I saw videos of what he was working-on early last year and figured "eh, that's neat but I can't imagine the dev will get that far before he gives up and goes quiet" and here we are now and it's a shockingly-accurate recreation of the Xbox 360 game with physics and voice acting all accounted for. His megatexture tech demo running on a real console has to be seen to be believed too, Factor 5 would be proud.

Let see what can run Serious Sam, Malice, first Assassin Creed and mirror edge…
lol, and I didn’t link the video since I know eclebs are “evil” but mvg said he had it running on his everdrive on his native hardware and was able to run it on his mister. He said he also tested it on emulators and it worked. I’ll wait until it’s finished but it’s pretty impressive. I also just love portal so if eventually I could get a cart and play it off the 64 I would, I just really dig it. Don’t think it would be possible for the second one but also w this level of passion we could hope for more better projects like this for other things, maybe not straight demakes.
I've always wanted to learn game programming so that I could make demakes of games I like. It sounds really fun and seeing modern games being ported to old consoles is so impressive to me.
its really not that hard to learn old console programming. granted, you wont be coding refined 3d algos, but if you wanted to port an old dos game to nesgameboyetc YOU could definitely do it
>evil
More like, I lie on the internet and I am nobody and stand to gain nothing, and I have to project upon an eceleb that since they are trying to become somebody and gain money, they are just off the wall in their level of bullshit and whoring and generally wasting your time
From what I gather, he mainly did it to demonstrate what the N64 was capable of when pushed further than any late 90s developer was capable of. Hence why he intentionally chose a game that revolved around complicated physics.
Is it a faithful remake or are there new levels with the same mechanics? If it's the same that's kind of lame, buy I appreciate actual homebrew more than all the other n64/psx style games made in unreal or whatever.
It’s pretty difficult to come up work your own concept and code a game completely by yourself.
This is like a hobbyist tech demo that turned into something much larger.
Mario 64 is decompiled right? Perhaps someone skilled could use that as a template for a brand new platformer.
The technical achievement IS the original work. Developing algorithms to optimize things that were previously thought to be much slower is the foundation for computer science. Deconstructing art to it's basics is important for future creative work.
It just goes to show you that with some creativity, and know how, you can overcome any significant hurdle.
what does "mental age" have to do with anything? Doesn't some other stuff he does have X branding, like SpaceX? Brands change their names all the time.
eh, I don't really want to get into a discussion about it, there are many reasons why it's a dumb idea. For one it went nicely with the word tweet and the bird icon. I think he should just change it all back.

The demo for Portal 64 worked, >though
I like it. I'd rather play a game designed on an old console than a game trying to mimic its visuals.
Worked on my x7 but I haven't tried the latest build.

Looks like OP was looking for the patched rom, too, so here
that's pretty outdated

thanks anon
your specimen has been processed
Works on my bootleg.
Are you able to keep the saves on reset?

Yeah, played it a little. Very cool.

Wouldn't those require assembly or some similar machine language? Or are there tools that aid you with that in your own language?
Just learn assembly you fricking casual

And? Anon on why?
Ins't it better to remake Staforx, Stunt Race and Vortex for N64 unstead demake Portal or Bloodborne.
Demaking from scratch a game and decompiling one are a totay different set of skills

Already has.
Been watching the videos. It's neat. Would be cooler if it were something original imo, but whatever.
Really we need a game called shartol. Its a game where you shart through a portal to attack enemies with shit spray on the other side.
Once again N64 is the worst version. 32x could do a better job.
You can’t for real?
I get it but I don't at the same time.
Is it a faithful remake or are there new levels with the same mechanics? If it's the same that's kind of lame, buy I appreciate actual homebrew more than all the other n64/psx style games made in unreal or whatever.
From what the dev said, it's 1 to 1 conversion, that's required original assets(at least for sound)
He did implement moving portals using option B though you only see it in the "speedy thing goes in, speedy thing goes out" chamber.
While it's a cool technical achievement, it makes me sad to see so much work put into something so unoriginal.

You're too small-minded to participate in this thread.
real npc in the wild
i'm lazy af. anyone got a precompiled rom?
it's really not hard to follow the 3 steps on the GitHub
These are people who think RetroArch is rocket science lol.
Someone upload a patched rom this shit moronic
sick
first portal is kinda boring imo, but gg on getting it to run on N64
thats genuinely impressive
>z-buffer enabled
frames per second never had a chance
Plus 64DD mouse support and dual controller
just misses anamorphic widescreen
Wii U edition got it covered
it has widescreen
it stretches the interface, someone should make an issue
no one asked for this
I asked for X-men/MSH, Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, Megaman X4/5/Fighter/Racing, Tron Bonne spin off and, Alien vs Predator and Darkstalkers 2 port
I did
Yes I did as well. Hence my enthusiasm in my post.
Loop infinite hoop
Not retro
Retro game?
>Puts on my bootleg everdrive
>Controls are so bad I can't play it
I don't know how to change them.
Go to settings button
So how the pizza?
