This is correct and why I do not interact with those type of people anymore. I worked with a lead dev on a pretty successful fangame and was really good about pissing away all the good will that came from it.
One of my favorite fan project meltdowns was the one for HOI4. It was supposed to be a full conversion mod or something but the project was infested with trannies + the lead dev did basically no work. So all you had were trannies who would all try and make their own unique story lines for various leaders (iirc Rommel apparently got survivor's guilt and was supposed to be redeemed in a mini campaign before commiting suicide) except they would all clash with each other so their discord was endless b***hing that X or Y faction was fricking up another trannies unique storyline.
Anyways the meltdown was one of the devs b***hing about crunch for a fan mod that they didnt get paid for because apparently the lead dev existed solely to shitpost in discord and then threaten members with being kicked out unless they programmed the next update NOW.

The Brothers Karamazov is basically a dark comedy for the first few chapters and how it describes this horrible guy abusing the Russian social system to get money to fuel his love of alcohol, fine dining, and expensive prostitutes while driving his wives to insanity or worse. Thomas Malory's Death of King Arthur opens with the noblemen of England making excuse after excuse to delay Arthur's coronation, and when they finally run out of larger audiences to prove to that he pulled the sword from the stone the country immediately erupts into civil war. I think people like to view books or authors of "important" literature like they're very serious people and maybe they are, but they're also capable of humor.

I just hate that people recommend games from genres that are super oversaturated and aren't as universal to everyone as they think. Chances are the next game in either genre is not gonna be a gamechanger.
And I understand that there's no game is universial, especially no genre, I like RPGs and nobody has time for all of those. But damn, I would never recommend an RPG that was generic unless it was an exceptional forerunner of that type of RPG, like a Dragon Quest or something. And it is a unique release, a remake of a decade long pet project by a foreign dev, so it wasn't very well known in the west.

Forspoken I've heard has some interesting mechanics in a very dull, uninspired world, with cringy dialogue and plot. There might be a decently fun romp if you can get past the cringe. You shouldn't take shitposts at face value, nor should you read a review without a huge grain of salt. Looking at both positive and negative reviews as well as gameplay footage you can get a good idea of whether you might find enjoyment out of the game, but the only real way to know is to just play the game.

I played it recently. It's fun enough, but doesn't use the gimmick. Then the second time around has some more interesting puzzles and others that require bigger leaps in logic.
The games inspired by it are better - like Tunic.

It's just standard bullshit to get sympathy points. Their blog posts are made difficult by their inability to ever shorten their thoughts or their future thoughts. The game has been in development for this long because they have no discipline. A modder made NPCs, gets hired, isn't set to make npcs instead he's stuck jerking off making some dogshit minigame (after removing the mod) and now they're finally toiling with the thought of adding NPCs in like 20x the length of time it took for the mod to be made. And I get that development of something like that has to be as seamless and as future proofed as possible so it doesn't end up as huge spaghetti, but surely it doesn't take this long to get updates. The game just needs a patreon and I will 100% believe it's meant to be a long drawn out money printer. They have aspirations at the same height as dwarf fortress but they chose steam early access instead of the free route, which is smart financially but it comes with the expectation there would be a "release" version in sight. But then again so many games launched early access around that time and took an absurd amount of time so what do I know. Hell honestly they could just release updates as paid dlc. Ark did it. Early access doesn't seem to matter since people "vote with their wallet" on pretty much everything uncontrollably. rambling over.

I did the same thing in college except it was a team presentation for Information Systems. Professor asked who wanted to go first so I raised my hand because I just wanted to get it over with. I went up and started the presentation and handed it off to each team member to present what they were responsible for and then I can back to close. When we were done I could see panic in the room. The professor could smell it in the air. He asked the class if they wanted to take a short break to which the entire class said "YES". He laughed. Then all the different teams had to quickly redo their presentations because none of them took the approach that the assignment was to present and sell a piece of software we had developed. They were just planning on going up and talking about what they had done for the project.

The UI one maybe not, didn't really have a problem with it but I barely even notice or care about UI. However, the game has a lot of reused assets and looks about as good as ds1 with dsfix, the quests are very convoluted and demand wikigayging, and it stuttered like shit on launch.
They're only valid in the sense that yes, it is a lot of work to get games that size working well and feeling good to play, but I'd rather wait a few years for a good game without the devs getting crunched to hell and back than getting a rushed, shitty product because "WE NEED IT OUT NOW".

in some cases, some devs use community engagement in order to QA their work. usually in the more successful instances of them doing this, the dev is pretty thick skinned and just ignores the shitposting and focuses on the earnest criticism. if I made a game and did this I would probably just observe what people say and not directly engage with anyone.

We read Slaughterhouse 5, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Catcher in the Rye in 6th grade. It's pseudo intellectual stuff that people praise as being high brow when its really babby's first foray into books. I'm not saying they're bad, but they're nothing special at all.
Not really, that's why these developers were so fricking insufferable. They framed freshmen highschool required reading authors as high brow literature. Like they're so much better than the average pleb for having read him. I like Vonnegut as an author but Catch 22 isn't exactly high art. Maybe part of the issue is that the average person isn't really functionally literate and no one reads outside of what they force you to in high school. It's a very funny book, and a lot of books are, if you actually take the time to read them. The Brothers Karamazov is basically a dark comedy for the first few chapters and how it describes this horrible guy abusing the Russian social system to get money to fuel his love of alcohol, fine dining, and expensive prostitutes while driving his wives to insanity or worse. Thomas Malory's Death of King Arthur opens with the noblemen of England making excuse after excuse to delay Arthur's coronation, and when they finally run out of larger audiences to prove to that he pulled the sword from the stone the country immediately erupts into civil war. I think people like to view books or authors of "important" literature like they're very serious people and maybe they are, but they're also capable of humor.
Catch 22 opens with them in a military hospital ward accusing a guy of killing one of their fellow ward patients because he hated him for being a Black person. Then when he comes back they all jump up and down and cheer going, "YAAAY! THE Black person IS BACK!"

Forspoken I've heard has some interesting mechanics in a very dull, uninspired world, with cringy dialogue and plot. There might be a decently fun romp if you can get past the cringe. You shouldn't take shitposts at face value, nor should you read a review without a huge grain of salt. Looking at both positive and negative reviews as well as gameplay footage you can get a good idea of whether you might find enjoyment out of the game, but the only real way to know is to just play the game.

The game has been in development for this long because they have no discipline. A modder made NPCs, gets hired, isn't set to make npcs instead he's stuck jerking off making some dogshit minigame (after removing the mod) and now they're finally toiling with the thought of adding NPCs in like 20x the length of time it took for the mod to be made. And I get that development of something like that has to be as seamless and as future proofed as possible so it doesn't end up as huge spaghetti, but surely it doesn't take this long to get updates. The game just needs a patreon and I will 100% believe it's meant to be a long drawn out money printer. They have aspirations at the same height as dwarf fortress but they chose steam early access instead of the free route, which is smart financially but it comes with the expectation there would be a "release" version in sight. I didn't screenshot any, but one of Gotham Knights devs had a similar temper tantrum when people didn't like it, which included him insisting that the the game should cost more because devs like him are not actually paid what they are worth.

in some cases, some devs use community engagement in order to QA their work. usually in the more successful instances of them doing this, the dev is pretty thick skinned and just ignores the shitposting and focuses on the earnest criticism. if I made a game and did this I would probably just observe what people say and not directly engage with anyone.
