fricking based VIIIchads, the artist's of society
FFVIII is the real masterpiece of the series and a peak which very few JRPGs have managed to reach. It continues to filter tasteless low IQ plebs even today, true artists recognises FFVIII as one of the greatest things created by humanity. It will forever be the king of FF and no other game will be able to surpass it
As a Kitase fan, how do X, VII and XIII compare with VIII?

I actually don't even dislike 13 that much but its side content was noticeably bad compared to other games. It's clear the game was designed as a linear experience so when you factor in grinding it suddenly becomes tedious to play with the battle systems.

So is my gut right when it says zoomers are the ones sucking off X?
X was great, fricktard.
Thread disagrees with you. But more importantly I disagree with you. In many ways I consider it the worst in the series.
I highly disagree.
>first foray into a voiced FF, and I don't see how it could get anything other than passing marks here
>markedly better than the overpriced demo Square put out earlier (The Bouncer)
>push combat is kino, don't @ me homosexual
>sphere grid is a fantastic means of powering up your characters
>breaking 9999 damage feels fricking great, man
The only thing it's missing is a world map. It's sorely missed but not a dealbreaker and not enough to signify the end. The caliber of writing in 13 is all I need to mention here. The line is 100% unequivocally, objectively at FF XIII. I don't care how much you dislike FFX, you're wrong, it's FFXIII objectively.
>he thinks voiced lines make a good game
get out zoomer
When did I say that? I said it was FF's first foray into that realm and that it did fine. I'm not saying the script or the read were revolutionary, I'm saying they're inoffensive and worthy of a passing grade.
You are a moronic, brown ESL monkey who cannot read for shit.
>zoomer takes extreme offense at being called out
Seething little weirdos, aren't they? The west is completely fricked.
Voice acting was a step back for JRPGs.
The game lacks the final fantasy soul.
The combat is fine but sphere grid is simply illusion of choice.
The aesthetic is fricking awful and was a lesson to keep Nomura on a tight leash, or should have been.
The story was very mediocre and the character mostly forgettable.
Lulu literally just serves as a lazy device to explain the world to the player because the game is light in npcs to talk to.
Tidus is shit, no I won't elaborate and no it's not because of the laughing scene. Ff8 of all games has a better teen love story.
>Voice acting was a step back for JRPGs.
Yes but because it's almost never done right. It's Troy Baker as snow quality and not like 9s from Nier quality. That is the issue.
>The game lacks the final fantasy soul.
Subjective. Not worth commenting on. I disagree.
>The combat is fine but sphere grid is simply illusion of choice.
There is absolutely choice. Can you put 150 hours in and get everything on everyone? Yeah, but you could do the same thing with FFVI if you so chose. For the game proper, the sphere grid is a great progression system.
>The aesthetic is fricking awful and was a lesson to keep Nomura on a tight leash, or should have been.
I disagree.
>The story was very mediocre and the character mostly forgettable.
Juxtaposed to the story and characters from FFXIII, this is a laugh.
>Lulu literally just serves as a lazy device to explain the world to the player because the game is light in NPCs to talk to.
I'm sure we can find plenty of characters like that throughout all of RPG-dom - some likely even well-liked.
>Tidus is shit, no I won't elaborate and no it's not because of the laughing scene. Ff8 of all games has a better teen love story.
Tidus has more character that Lightning by massive leaps and bounds. You might not like his character, but it's just disingenuous to intentionally not address Lightning's non-character in your assessment of Tidus.
>Subjective. Not worth commenting on. I disagree.
So you have no argument, you are not even going to try and dispute it. You have no argument but are going to still claim that your opinion, which you can't even articulate, matters. This is toddler covering his ears and screaming that he is right tier.
Do you happen to be brown, under 25, and live in some 3rd world shithole?
Why are you mentioning 13 repeatedly. If I say FF went off the rails with X then anything that happens after that is also subject to that assessment.
To be frank I think 13 and X are in the same league, but all the snes PS1 and for me even some of the NES games blow it out of the fricking water.
Any sin that 13 commits X committed first, so why would I b***h about that game over the original sinner.
off by an entire generation
majority of zoomers were still in diapers or not even born yet when X came out

you also have different dev teams doing each game.
7R is Nomura's people
16 is Yoshi-P's people
Yeah, and I think thats a really good thing. Besides the obvious benefit of getting new entries quicker, it also means we get different takes on FF for different tastes.
>Nomura's people
You mean his battle planners and Toriyama's level designers and artists.
Yoshi-P has a former Nomura battle planner along with 12 devs, but the lead level designer for 15 was also the one for 16.
>but the lead level designer for 15 was also the one for 16.
you think the level designs would be improved due to the shitty Luminous engine no longer holding the dude back

Lmao no. Yoshi-P's mistake? Graphical fidelity again while insisting on keeping everything a single game. He wanted ultra rendered visuals but even something like KH2 with realistic proportions would have been perfect for 16 and kept levels big but everyone now has to have a billion polygons. Graphics advancing after the PS3 tier was a mistake.

>7 REMAKE is the first game since Final Fantasy VIII made by the whole VIII team
That explains the fricking batshit insane time travel parralell reality storyline
>Nomura's people
Kek they demoted him to the ff7 mobile game guy, for some reason square fricking despises that guy
Let's start with Grey games:
>FF1-7 were not all made by the same team or same people
>1-5 were all directed by Sakaguchi, but he got a lot help on the early ones from Tanaka and others who would spit off to make the Mana and Saga series
>6 was the first game in the series not directed by Sakaguchi and was instead directed by Ito and Kitase marking a distinct change in the team and is worth noting if we're talking about teams
>7 was a HUGE game and required hiring a bunch of new people to finish on time. This meant that the normal staff of 40 people for previous FF games ballooned to over 100-150 which would CLEARLY not be the same team that made FF6 or FF5
>The FF7 also wouldn't split into the FF8 team and FF9 team. The FF7 team mainly went on to make FF8 while Sakaguchi would establish the Hawaii studio for FF9 and Spirits Within which was meant to be an international studio with a lot of western staff to help them better make the game and movie appeal to western audiences.
Red games:
>CC was part of the FF7 compilation which was the brainchild of Kitase/Nomura/Nojima and would be better associated with the compilation projects as they worked with a similar foundation even if there were different teams
>The 3rd Birthday was Nomura's idea and Toriyama was tasked with writing for it
>Type-0 was originally part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy project, another brainchild of Kitase/Nomura/Nojima
>FFXV should have its own branch since it used to be Versus XIII which is part of FNC and the FFXV team was cobbled together from the Type-0 team, Luminous Engine team, and Versus XIII team, a number of whom left SE after Tabata reorganized the new FFXV's internet structure
>Forspoken is being made by the team that made FFXV, but a number of key FFXV people left SE shortly before it began production including Tabata

FF16 began Pre-Production in Late 2015 and entered Full Production in Mid 2019.
FF7 Remake began Pre-Production in 2013 and entered Full-Production in 2015 at CyberConnect2 with some S-E staff. However, it's development was rebooted in 2017 once the project was brough fully in-house at CBU1.
FF7 Rebirth began development in 2019.
I wish more studios would pump out sequels. So weird to me they build these engines than only use them once. Such a waste, especially when you look at MM, LA, DK 64 and Conquers Bad Fur Day.
FF13 did get two sequels, FF13-2 and FF13-LR since the devs created so many assets. I wish we actually got the 7th Ark
Crazy to think that at one point they had both 9 and 10 in preproduction and the planning stages of 11 all in the works at once.
Don't forget the movie.
Don't remember the movie
the only thing I remember is the "blooper" where a character calls the female lead a b***h and she knocks him into an abyss.
I can't, no matter how hard I try. I was poor as frick when it came out so going out to see it on opening night was a big deal.
I had never been so disappointed as I was that night and I wouldn't be that disappointed again until the Dragon Ball movie came out.

13 was awful - the absolute worst - but I believe it can worse. Forspoken is a perfect example of the sort of effort SE is willing to put into a rancid, out-of-touch pile of woke, shitty writing. I think they're so incompetent that it can absolutely get worse than that.

Nah, both are shit. MMO's in general are. There has never, and will never, be a good MMO, as the design is inherently flawed.
XI was fun. It hasn't aged well at all and comes from a time before the genre conventions had been set so the game play is rough. That said the world, the stories, the gameplay, and the community were all amazing for their time making it a unique experience.

How come they broke away from turn-based after X?
It feels like the general consensus is that Square doesn't know wtf to do with FF as an action RPG
they broke away from turn-based in FFIII
X was a return to it.
Every other battle system has just been a modification on ATB.
you know damned well that ATB is not the same thing as "press x to attack"
it's basically just selecting Attack from a menu faster
SOURCE? is there more of it? ANON PLEASE!
ATB was a good evolution, 13 actually did it pretty well but you and I both know that any form of turn based combat wont sell the kind of numbers that square wants FF to do.

someone please explain IX to me. I felt literally nothing past disc 1 and the gameplay is slow as balls
FF9 is a game which r.ddit hipsters and MMO trannies pretend to like because they think it makes them have a "cultured taste" it's a shit game and easily one of the worst FF games, there is no "return to form", ff9 pretends to be something it isn't just like trannies and that's why they like it so much
Correct but the atmosphere and presentation is pretty good. Otherwise spot on, I hate 9 more and more the older I get.
100% accurate post
This honestly. I played it for the first time a few years ago when I was playing 6-10 all in a row and I really didn't like it, felt like it did EVERYTHING worse than every other game I played in that marathon. Confused me a lot when I read afterwards how many people thought it was the best one, just play 6 if you want an "old-school FF" or whatever.
9 was alright but definitely worse than 7 and 8, it felt like the only take away they got from 7 was 'mc needs to have an asspull back story', 8 was corny as frick so it worked alright but it just felt lame in 9. Necron was also shit
>felt nothing
Peak soul ost, atmosphere, pacing, characters and writing. If you don't get it you're simply too zoomer and/or lack taste. Don't worry it'll come to you.
>characters
Nah, music and kingdom theme was comfy, frick all else
ff 8 and 7 hsa much better characters forexample
ff8 and ff7 characters are more boring. ff9 characters are exaggerated in a cartoony way and their interactions are charming, they have a consistent theme (much like the whole game) of "what's your purpose in life" with different implied answers ranging from "just eat" to "serve the kingdom" to "i don't know". What's the point of ff7 and ff8 characters? it's just a bunch of random homosexuals who happen to have a bit differing personalities because humans happen to do so. i'm not saying they're bad, just a bit uninteresting. the tone of ff9 is fun.
Zell is laughing at you
lol yeah the mentally ill furhomosexual and transgender characters in FF9 are so charming and interesting HEHE I completely agree with you <3
i just dont like zidane honestly, i felt more connected to squall and cloud, and generally prefer more mature characters.
i like steiner and vivi
dont worry you aren't the only one who didn't like the monkey manlet ""protagonist "" lol I guess FF9troons can really self-insert
>i just dont like zidane honestly
My main issue with him is I always thought his hair looked so fricking dumb. Like the model is way too big for his head.
lol, he looked fine to me
freya and amarant ruined my immersion though, goofy looking characters both of them
>soul ost
Agreed, but that's consistent with every mainline game
>Atmosphere
Also agree a bit here, locations were memorable and mist continent was an interesting place to start
>pacing
Ehhhhh, I thought it started to get a little shaky after the second alexandria visit and got worse as it went on. But I'm not as criticial of off pacing as others so whatever
>characters and writing
And this is where the game lost me. Like earlier, the second alexandria visit is where things get fricked in terms of characters and writing. Every party member outside of the first 4 are completely irrelevant (Freya literally gets dropped mid-character arc), the twist with Zidane and Terra as a whole was rushed as hell, and really the whole story goes into schizo territory at the last third (like almost every mainline game). Which is why I'm so confused why people praise the story and characters to high heaven when it falls into similar pitfalls other entries make, while its gameplay is genuinely awful
>You're a zoomer or lack taste if you don't get it
So its nostalgia homosexualry. Got it. Had a feeling it was that.

damn no one likes ff12 huh
it was alright, which is a shame because it could have been superb
played it only like 3 years ago and people weren't kidding when they talked about the development issues, the game completely spills its spaghetti in the latter half
>spills its spaghetti in the latter half
how so?? story wise, gameplay wise?
I meant more storywise, I thought XII's gameplay w as fine enough.
Hell, it wasn't even the latter half, it's later than that, but I'm pretty sure after Archades you just go into fast forward oh shit here's Giruvegan then you're at the Pharos and it's done. For all the journey of the game up to a certain point, it really really goes into fast forward towards the ending.
Despite my memory being shitty, the feeling/phrase XII engraved in my soul was "That's it?". I might have said that out loud once I found out I was already at Bahamut (and even more so when Bahamut was like a 5 minute dungeon).
I think FF games in general have an issue with pacing which always makes them feel like you're playing a game that had it's budget cut near the end and they didn't want to fit in everything they wanted to.
I think they just have an issue with wanting to do to much and a lot of directors at SE fall prey to scope creep.

I wish my autism allowed me to like this game. The "stack a monster on their head" mechanic just makes me unable to play it because of how goofy it is. I have the same problem with getting into Disgaea because you can make those goofy ass towers of stacked characters and throw them.
There's literally two of us in the thread.
The goofiness of the stacking mechanic is the best part, especially post game when you can ditch the twins. I'll never forget my electric wagon waifu, or making my first tonberry stack.
I didn't even see any of the WoFF people. It's funny that this post popped up since I'm middle of my WoFF playthrough. It's been a decent game so far. Although, I did notice that the English subtitles were wildly inaccurate compared to the Japanese voice acting.

Age - 23
First game - FF12. Pretty much my personal favorite game in the series as well. FF4, 6, 10, and Tactics are really close as well.
Where did the series go wrong? - Honestly I feel like this series is really healthy in comparison to other JRPG's. The series sorta got stale around the PS1 era, especially with FF7-9, but they were still good. Although FF was never the same after the train-wreck of 13.
Oh, and I haven't played 16 yet. Should I go and play it after I finish marathoning the KH series for the first time?
>train-wreck of 13
Genuinely curious as to why you think this, I get people don't like how linear it was (even though X was pretty much the same) but other than a weak post game I thought it was alright, mediocre at best but I wouldn't call it a train wreak
if you got a ps5, check it out. Finish that KH marathon first tho
>PS5
Yeah, unfortunately I don't really have a PS5 at the moment, and I haven't really made any plans to upgrade from my PS4.
>"How are you liking KH? Where are you currently? How are you going about it, are you doing the whole thing including gacha lore or just playing 1-2-3 for the gameplay? Why did you think this was a good idea? I hope you're having fun."
Thanks! I'm just really starting with KH1, and I'm at the point in Traverse Town where you are looking for Donald & Goofy. Riku kicked my ass a bunch while dueling him but I'm sure it's was intentional to make the player want to seek out power to defeat him later in the game, sorta like with MMX1 where you are powerless against Vile while Zero can easily wreck his shit, making you the player want to be as strong as Zero yourself by finding the Heart Capsules, Sub-Tanks, and Armor Upgrades.
I'm planning to do the whole series in release order since I sorta take in thing way better than trying to play thing in chronological order. I'm also planning on playing both the GBA original and the remake of Chain Of Memories, as well as both the NDS versions of 358/2 and Re:Coded. I have a hacked 3DS that I can play those on so I should be good there. I don't know about any of the gacha stuff so I might need some help with that.
Anyway I just really wanted to get KH under my belt because I've heard so many people sing it praises all my life, but I've never really had the chance of playing the whole series until now; the only memory I really have with KH beforehand is playing some of Birth By Sleep on a friends PSP back in the day, but that's it.
Also is it just me or does Sora look uncannily similar to Sion from The Bouncer?
Okay? I've put way more hours into Etrian Oddessy and Persona 1 than any other JRPG to really give a shit. Plus, I have the entire DQ series under my belt, including all Monster games.
>Okay? I've put way more hours into Etrian Oddessy and Persona 1 than any other JRPG to really give a shit. Plus, I have the entire DQ series under my belt, including all Monster games.
And? You said that like those games are better than those FF/Squaresoft games from the PSX era. (they are not)
Saying that FF8 is stale is quite a big joke.
I'll only make an exception for FF8 since it's story is really good, but idk man, having to draw out magic over and over again from enemies is fricking tedious. I'd rather buy that shit from a shop or learn it as I level up. And I already said that I absolutely love FF Tactics...
Again, I don't really hate FF7-9, but it was really starting to burn me out with how tedious they are. FF10 was such a breath of fresh air since FF6.
>the gacha stuff has slight relevance to KH3, but is pretty much required for KH4, though I'm pretty sure they'll release a remake like Re: Union χ or something eventually.
Well shit, that sucks. Hope they can really clear that stuff up before KH4.
Also, Drakengard 2 is severely underrated, probably my favorite right next to Drakengard 1 and Nier Gestalt.
>having to draw out magic over and over again from enemies is fricking tedious
Ho no no no, what did you say
Please, don't let me start on this, this thread will collapse if do....
it's the best way to get spells without relying on Card's RNG or level scaling
No, you didn't understand the game.
Card is not RNG, level scaling is not needed, Drawing magic is the slowest and the most dumbest way to get magic in the game, it exist only as a safeguard to prevent a "softlock" in your progression.
This. The game offer so much freedom, experimentation and tweaking, and more than anything, require a lot of care and invest from the player. Others FF are like baby games compared to it.
>Card is not RNG
it felt RNG
you don't have to draw magic over and over again, you just didn't understand how to actually play the game like 95% of the people
Thank you anons, I prefer to not start talking about this or I will schizo this thread like nobody did before.
I'm fricking getting tired of people saying "you need to draw magic", it make my blood boils.

FF8's story fricking sucks
The story is good, anon. You just left your GFs equipped too long so you don't remember
filtered by pure kino
let me guess, you like ff9 LOL
Nice, enjoy, KH1 is special. If you still find yourself invested as of DDD, the gacha stuff has slight relevance to KH3, but is pretty much required for KH4, though I'm pretty sure they'll release a remake like Re: Union χ or something eventually. What makes it complicated is the gacha was ongoing before and after KH3 and 2.8, so if you really want to go by release order it's a bit tricky. I should hope there is some autistic chart or something out there, but I don't know for sure.
At least it's not as autistic as Drakengard/Nier.
Hope you have fun with KH anon. And as for the sora and sion resemblance. I think I remember Nomura saying he intentionally designed them similarly.
>Should I go and play it after I finish marathoning the KH series for the first time?
If you've got a PS5 there's really not much better for you to play so go for it.
How are you liking KH? Where are you currently? How are you going about it, are you doing the whole thing including gacha lore or just playing 1-2-3 for the gameplay? Why did you think this was a good idea?
I hope you're having fun.
>The series sorta got stale around the PS1 era
fricking zoomer
I honestly do not recommend FF16. The story is alright but it feels like it's trying too hard to stay serious all the time. It hardly had any lighthearted scenes or dialogue compared to previous games. The gameplay also felt a bit basic for me since you only used 1 weapon for combat, there was no elemental system to work with, and there was no hard mode until you completed the game. (What were they thinking?)
All in all, FF16 is a mediocre game. It is not that bad but there are better games that you can play. If there is one compliment I can give though, it's the Eidolon sections. Those are easily the best part of the games. It's such a shame they are so short...
>It hardly had any lighthearted scenes or dialogue compared to previous games
What lighthearted scenes we even had in 6? It was way more depressing than 16 in the end, which at the very least has Byron and heartwarming bonds between main characters.
Elemental systems are typically hated by action game designers because they turn enemies into walking flowcharts.

yeah imo but its flaws are easy to spot (lackluster exploration, weak side quest content variety, harder difficulties locked behind completing the game). But what it does good, it does really good.

No, PSO is far better, both artistically and gameplay wise, it's not even comparable.
I'm convinced that you didn't play FFXI when it was actually good.
I never liked it, and no matter what, you can't argue that PSO have way better music, level design and visuals across the board.
It's just not comparable, this is pure KINO.
What anon say here
PSOBB is the way to go now.

I like PSO but FFXI has my favorite OST of all fricking time and it's not even close. Like absolute leagues above any game I've ever played.

No, just no. And I say this as someone that did buy the first FF11 OST back then (I also owned all the previous FF, DQ and PSO OST too) (pic related)
And I regretted buying it, absolute worst OST I did own.
Even the OST coming from the Xbox era was far better (like Dino Crisis 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghT3V4eCiGc or even Panzer Dragoon Orta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYINhRZuaec )
And PSO have way better songs:
Dare I say, even The Bouncer have a better OST:
(Forevermore japanese version is a masterpiece)
what's the best way to play PSO on PC in 2023, I don't have friends so I wanna do it solo if it's possible
https://ephinea.pioneer2.net/
Seconding Ephinea. It has a One Player Mode that makes soloing a little easier and there's a few sensible balance changes around section IDs to make sure everyone has rare items worth farming for.

>KHBBS was not made by the same people that made KH1/2. It was made by a nascent Osaka studio SE would set up. That Osaka studio would go on to make KHDDD and KH3
>The KH1/2 team based in Tokyo, would go on to work on things like Advent Children/FFXIII cause it needed help and Versus XIII
>The KH3 was not largely involved in the making FF7R in any way. They moved onto KH4 after KH3 finished.
Green games:
>Dirge of Cerberus was part of the FF7 compilation like CC and Advent Children, but key people involved with every other green game are missing from its credits
>Most of these games involved Kitase/Toriyama/Nojima, but FFXIII-2/LRXIII were heavily outsourced after XIV 1.0's reboot began
>Kitase/Toriyama/Nojima would end up on FF7R, but the larger team backing them would have to be rebuilt after losing so much staff to FFXIV ARR and FFXV
>This makes the FF7R quite different from FFX or KH1
Blue games:
>The blue games did start off mainly made by new hires from Quest including Matsuno, but notably FF6 director Ito was put on FFT to handle the game design and battle systems and give the game a kind of Final Fantasy credibility
>VS was more of a Matsuno team project as Ito would then move on to FF9 to direct that at the Hawaii studio
>FFXII was a very big project and would be a lot more than the Matsuno people and Crystal Chronicles. Notably, staffing changes happened during its long development cycle including the exit of Sakaguchi and Matsuno which would require Kamazu from mainly the Saga games to come in and help
>And during this time, other Crystal Chronicles games were being made, so I dunno why that block seems to be shoved into FF12 aside from the fact Kamazu was its producer
2/3
>FFXI was headed by Tanaka who took people from a number of smaller non-FF teams like Chrono/Parasite/Mana etc to build FFXI. If the chart followed its own logic, there would be line from FF1-7 to FF11 as well. The FFXI team didn't just materialize out of nowhere.
>And while the FFXI team did move into FFXIV 1.0, elements of the FFXII team were already present in FFXIV 1.0, so that's wrong
>The Last Remnant didn't exactly move into FFXIV 2.0 either. Takai and Maehiro of TLR were teamed up with Yoshida after he was pulled from DQX to make a new IP. When XIV 1.0 bombed, they were pulled in to fix that. Then FFXIV ARR sucked up staffing from almost everywhere else in SE Tokyo including a lot of FFXIII staff and Luminous Studio staff to get that shit fixed
>FFXIV 2.0 team did not just move on to make FFXVI. Yoshida took a few key people from ARR/HW and built an entirely new team for FF16 while finding replacements to fill the roles of those that left XIV from existing junior XIV developers
>Those junior XIV developers would then take the reigns of XIV for SB/ShB/EW while the FF16 built itself up from a lot of new and old recruits. XIV would also expand through new recruits
>At this point, there are clearly two separate teams between FFXIV and FFXVI that may share some staff, but are otherwise operating independently
tl;dr It's more important who the key staff are on which of these projects rather than thinking of entire teams moving from project to project.
3/3
Starting to realize that Ganker is just full of early 90's kids when it come to FF and J-RPG.
I wonder what the ratio is compared to the rest of the board.
>the PC internet's primary audience is anywhere between 25-40 years old
Hasn't this always been pretty obvious? Zoomers really only participate on the internet through web apps on their phone
Yeah, but that's the point, how many fricking mobile zoomers do we have on this board? because looking at some threads, it make me think that some are really too young or just have barely enough IQ to be able to walk alone.
Indeed, still hot though.
Make sense, but what about all the remasters/3D/spinoff version on handled like PSP, DS etc ? I though we would have at least way more new blood than that.
>what about all the remasters/3D/spinoff version on handled like PSP, DS etc
Most of those were re-sold to the people who had originally played these games. Sure, there were some new people picking them up, but a lot of people bought them for nostalgia and to replay something from their childhood. FF Pixel Remaster wasn't put out to attract zoomers and get them playing old NES games. It was put out to get the boomers buying their old childhood again. There's a reason that it's a "pixel remaster" and not a redesign like FF7R. (which is probably aimed at more of the mainstream audience)
Yeah I can see that, but that's also mean that the future of the franchise is scary if they continue to lose fans with those shitty newer FF, I can't say how long this will last before everyone gives up.
For a hentai that is known for popularlizing tentacle rape, it doesn't have that much in it.
Kids in the 2000s had the opinion that turn-based RPGs were dead. Sure, it's been said before about all sorts of genres, but the "turn-based JRPGs are dead" was a pretty common claim at that point. It's not surprising that most of those people aren't going into a Final Fantasy thread and discussing their favorite Final Fantasy game. The ARPG Final Fantasys haven't been very good and it's mostly known as an older turn-based style game. Hell, there have only been three mainline FF releases past the PS2 era, compared to around three games released per console before that.

13. 12 was the last good one
FF13's development is a tragedy, with Pre-Productions beginning in 2004 on the PS2. Then that version was scrapped and the PS3 version began in 2005, yet Full-Production only began in Late 2007 and lasted until Dec 2009.
Crystal Tools was one hell of a nightmare to work with
SE's pride over needing to have their own engine really could have tanked the company since it nearly sunk 13 (only kept a float by taking staff from versus), killed versus, killed agito XIII and was so bad for 14 that they quite literally nuked the game and rebuilt it after a poor launch and that's only the stuff we know about.

A fully playable demo of FF Versus XIII existed all the way back in Late 2010/early 2011 and it ran in real time.
?t=188
Technical problems caused the collapse of that project in Mid 2012 and it was rebooted as FF15. The video shows the build that ran on the Ebony Engine, which was shown in E3 2013. That gameplay footage also ran in real time.
The first footage of FF15 running on Luminous Engine was in 2014.

Heard that Pitioss was a platformer dungeon, in a game with 0 platforming, and requires the shitty flying car.

I don't care for 15 since it's open world. And I don't care for 16 because while I enjoy action RPGs, the cooldown combat with the wack ass stagger meter isn't for me.
I actually like the 13 series, though that's mostly due to 13-2 and LR being much more fun and improved games over the first 13 game. I'm still wondering about how successful 13 must have been for them to make two sequels for it in a relatively short amount of time.

They're right. You really are here forever.
no you're not, this website will shut down before july 2024
You don't think young people play Final Fantasy, do you?
I genuinely assumed they did because all the games after a certain point don't appeal to me so they must be appealing to people who aren't me, right?
Well, that's a proof that they didn't succeeded. So they better drop that shitty DMC clone and go back to Turn based games (or at least, make a good Dark Souls clone)
>dark souls
Actually frick off with that shit. I’m tired of people thinking action can only be whatever the frick fromsoft puts out.
ninja gaiden mogs fromslopware and DMCuck garbage
It works, that's the only thing I care. Do you seriously think they can make a new "type" of action game at SquareEnix ? Did you see how bad they are now ? So no, if they want to continue on the action trend, then at least, learn from something that works, even though it have already been spammed over and over again, that would at least, make the gameplay enjoyable.
I like Ninja Gaiden, Otogi, and the Souls, no need to know who mogs what here, each of those provide something soulful.
I genuinely enjoyed SoP (nioh-like I know) and XVI more than any fromsoft combat system besides maybe sekiro. Haven’t played AC6 yet. I don’t care what square does as long as they don’t copy those fricking devs. Everyone and their mom already wanks soulsborne shit enough.
>XVI more than any fromsoft
Imagine thinking that FF16 is better than Bloodborne. I-MA-GI-NE
Bloodborne is the worst post DeS From game
It was the second best one I played of the soulsborne games, but I still enjoyed sekiro most because it felt like the first time they actually went further with the combat system they had. Like the atmosphere tho.
>it felt like the first time they actually went further with the combat system they had
Ok, I can accept this argument even though I dislike Sekiro a lot. It is true that FROM now just copy/paste their games over and over (Ubisoft style), still, Bloodborne is the best Soul game ever, the (almost) perfect one.
to be fair bloodborne is a fricking drag of game as well
Stop baiting, BB is one of the shortest and fastest one in term of pacing and content.
You're alright.
Young people don't have the attention spans to play RPGs that could take anywhere from 20-60 hours to complete.
If only you knew how bad things really are.

SOP is kino and XVI was (mostly) good, with 7R2 looking like they can maybe pull off the impossible and actually make the remake good. I think it's too soon to say we're in the clear just yet but it's certainly infinitely better than we were back when the FNC started.

I like 8-10, but they're less consistently good than 4-7. It only really went to shit after 10.
Gameplay wise, FF8 is far better than anything from the 2D era. The only one that could somewhat be "close", would be FF2, and even then, it's still have less freedom.
>The two games with the most assbackwards way to progress have the "best gameplay"
unique does not mean good, anon
FF8 does have the best gameplay and you are moronic
drawing is not good gameplay
FF8 level scales so the only way to get spells to junction is to draw them from enemies
> the only way to get spells to junction is to draw them from enemies
Wrong
it is without leveling enemies up
I have. Had to use gameshark because I fricked myself over with level scaling
you didn't beat the game and your opinion on it's gameplay doesn't matter
>it is without leveling enemies up
No, you have the TT for that, and all the refinery/craft system with materials/item and cards.
I will say it again, drawing magic is the stupid shit you can do in the game, and any person that know how to play FF8 never waste time doing it (of course, outside of GF drawings).
I mean, you can even abuse of the "ALL" rule in TT to get all the cards of your opponent right from the start of the game (and thus having so much cards to refine), then you can also abuse of the spider mech to get all the AP you need to completely learn ALL abilities of the 4 first GFs, and this, even before completing your first mission.
>I have. Had to use gameshark because I fricked myself over with level scaling
Just no way. The first time I played FF8, I literally made the worst playthrough possible, I took all the decisions to make sure I get fricked hard (without even knowing), and yet I finished the game. (no TT, no cards, no Leon's Heart, no invincible, no aura, almost never used limit, and was running with all chars at LV100 but only one did have all GF attached to it, aka, 9999 death sentence over my head at almost every turns)
you have never even played FF8

The series always had issues here and there, 8 was fricking abhorrent but 13 and 15 is when it hit an absolute rock bottom.
>8 was fricking abhorrent
garbage taste but then again your favorite is literally FF6 so expected
I'm not into unfinished husks of the games with ridiculously poorly thought out gameplay systems and probably the worst fricking cast in the series prior to 13. I'm sorry, anon.
I have a soft spot for 8 despite it obviously not being very well thought out or designed, for whatever reason I just see the positive in it
I wonder what it's like for people that think of FF13 or FF15 that way
8 angers me because it had so much potential. It had a genuinely unique setting, it had some neat attention to details here and there, like Adell transmitting a message you can see on Timber's TV screens, it had a sneak peek at one of the most mature romance storylines with Raine and Laguna. Yet it just fricking fumbles with everything else, from the main ""romance"" to how it actually utilizes the setting, true antagonist and gameplay systems.
I barely shit on 13 and 15 because i don't see sparks of brilliance in them, they are just garbage. 8 is offensively bad to me because with a better dev cycle and writers it could be one of the best FF games.
rare based take. 8 could easily have been a true successor to 7 but they really dropped the fricking ball. Even mechanically, with a few QoL and balancing tweaks, junctioning could have been the best.
I shit on 13 because it's an insult to the audience and the worst example of poor story-telling I've ever witnessed in any form of media ever.
I will give XV one small credit.
It makes XIII look that much better in comparison.
Like sure it's still 99% garbage but compared to XV it's better.

Learn stat junction abilities and refine abilities, then refine cards and items into magic and junction those to your stats. Teach yourself enc-none..Then press the attack button to beat the rest of the game.
That.. is actually really helpful, holy shit. Why didn't realize this? Thanks, anon!
Unless you want to break the game, have some restraint on how strong of magic you junction.
FF8 deserves to be broken over it's knee
No prob. As
says, it's very easy to completely break the game doing this, but you're doing yourself a favor either way. Drawing magic is colossal waste of time.
>needing a guide
The game has built-in tutorials and explanations.

Ok, I will take the time to answer it because you seems to be legitimately interested.
>Sorry, I don't really come in with guides and stuff when I play a game blind
And you shouldn't. What you don't understand is that, a big part of enjoying FF8 is about making mistakes and learning from it. You are supposed to analyze, learn and optimize. this is why the game have a lot of replayability, because when you finish your first playthrough, your first idea is to start again a new game and try to optimize from the start what your learned at a later stage.
It's like a Dark Souls game, where you restart a new save other and other again trying to tweak and optimize your build to make it faster and faster and better.
So you shouldn't read a guide nor search on "how to play FF8", because this, is a big part of the FF8 gameplay, the experimentation and the research for optimization.
>So please tell me how I fricked up with magic?
This anon already explained it
But to go further, you need to learn and grind any junction that allow to refine/craft items/matieral and cards, then, it's up to you to either card some monster (tedious and only interesting if you try some challenge) or simply play a bit of TT from time to time.
The funny part of all of this, is that, if you don't cheat on those school rank in the games, you would understand everything about the game and how magics operate, which again, are all explained in those terminals.
It felt like RNG because you don't understand how it work. It's so piss easy to dominate the card battle right from the start, and even to a massive amount of cards if you go change the rules to ALL before starting to play TT in Balamb.
It's not about being unique, it's about giving freedom and a lot of options to optimize and customize your playthrough. Both of them are games focusing a lot on deep gameplay.
>It's so piss easy to dominate the card battle right from the start,
not when the Card skill didn't work due to bad RNG
That's not the same thing, and that's skill is not even remotely needed unless you want to make a very specific run. Don't listen to the people that tell you that the only way to play the game correctly is by not leveling up, it's not true.
When I say it's not RNG, I literally talk about TT (TripleTriad). It's so fricking easy to win by having the best cards, and its so easy to have the best cards by setting up the best rules at Balamb Town before playing TT at the Balamb Garden.
You don't even need to go hunt some very uber OP cards (unless you want to make a full completion run), the average high tier cards can be acquired before even unlocking Ifrit lol.

Sacrificing exploration for graphics was the beginning of the end.
Boomer core gamer age, first game were FF6 SNES and the GB FF Legends trilogy, best mainline was FF10, best spinoff was FF Dissidia PSP, FF series flatout died after FF15 DLC were cancelled (along any redemption arc) and FF16 cemented we aren't the target demographic anymore for Final Fantasy. I'll get my fix of classic Final Fantasy with the FF7 Remake but I've come to terms SquareEnix is severely obsessed with catering to Western Twitter teenagers.
