Can't I just repeat Ragnarok Online 10 times?
Sure
1. Ragnarok Online
2. Ragnarok Online
3. Ragnarok Online
4. Ragnarok Online
5. Ragnarok Online
6. Ragnarok Online
7. Ragnarok Online
8. Ragnarok Online
9. Ragnarok Online
10. Jackie Chan
All MMOs are garbage
Much like MOBAs it's a genre that's shit by design
I have to disagree. both have gotten worse over the years but that's because they have been affected by the changes to internet culture.
back when MMOs were big, the internet was driven mostly by people, there wasn't really one central place for people to meet. and socializing with people across the world was still seen as rewarding and fun. naturally, MMOs encouraged this kind of thinking by creating spaces that were largely defined by people interacting and often required you to talk to others to get things done.
as time went on though and we got the rise of post-myspace social media, big sites started controlling how people socialized more. it became less about meeting new people and more about seeing and hearing from the people you already knew. so these sites just use algorithms to curate all that and don't let you actually explore things naturally anymore; only showing you the things or people their automatic prediction thinks you would like.
this spread to MMOs as now people were used to convenience and largely prefer to be antisocial, so you'd get things like raid finder and other matchmaking that would remove steps of the process of socializing. it's easier, but it is also lonely and unfulfilling.
MOBAs also were more about enjoying yourself at one point too, as it was only really when League of Legends chased e-sports did the hypercompetitive min-max mindset ease in and destroy casual play.
so it's not like these genres were ever inherently bad, they just literally come from a time where people actually enjoyed having fun and hanging out with eachother. very unlike now, I know.
well explained for a post on Ganker
you do get nuggets of actual wisdom every once in a while.
post is absolutely correct too, it's mostly culture change; i've felt and said for a while that things are TOO convenient and modern MMOs don't allow or force people to interact organically, and it's a mix from devs realizing the shift in culture, designing or changing games as a result, which then becomes the new normal
i also remember league before it was ruined by the e-sports obsession infecting both the devs and the playerbase. community was always pretty frickin weird but i was there almost at the start, and got to see that shift first hand, in real time
for what it's worth, I think that if the behavior can be learned then it can also be unlearned. but it's sort of above the paygrade of players and regular internet users. It's a collective thing that has to change through someone popularizing it again (i.e. through a game or website that encourages that philosophy) or just culture changing to divide us less.
like, why is TF2 so popular despite the downgrades it has received over the years? funny characters and cool designs, satisfying shooter gameplay? yes, but many late and great titles have this. my theory is that it is the the levels of social interaction that keeps people coming back.
the taunts, the chat, the voice command menu. all vehicles for players to interact and socialize. it works so well that you don't even realize you're palling around with people until it happens. it's easy to do and it's fun.
it's why "meet your match" was the worst update for that game after all, introducing overwatch styled matchmaking that disabled cross-team voicechat and also buried community servers so hard that most gave up hosting them.
TF2 was originally designed as a chatbox with a shooter attached to it, and not the other way around. ergo, games need to be designed in a way that allows players to interact naturally and prioritize fun over strict "balance" and "convenience"
I know the thread was just shitting on FFXIV but let me say that as far as modern matchmaking type games go, it's actually OK. I think it comes off more as a hybrid between a singleplayer RPG and an MMO instead of strictly being one or the other. So players can make the choice whether to engage or not with the wider multiplayer features. It seems to try and make the best of the culture we have now. so even if I don't agree with all of the decisions made it feels like it honors that social spirit, even if it is a bit subdued in its approach.
>not putting XIV on top ten
Trying WAY too hard
Not an MMO
It's an anime and not in the top ten animes
and yet despite all that it's more popular than every other MMO put together
Sure, and Avengers: Endgame is even more popular if we decide arbitrarily to call it an MMO because people can talk about it on discord together
>literally copied WoW
>"WoW is an MMO but XIV isn't because it's anime"
Get out of here, asmon.
MMOs don't have 400 hours of unskippable cutscenes before endgame
MMOs also aren't instanced
>MMOs aren't instanced
>posts Guildwars 1
You know you look schizophrenic when you think every poster is the same
thanks to remind me too uninstall blue floptrocol and it's spyware
I don't think I've even played 10 mmos
1. FFXI
2. WoW
3. FFXIV
4. New World
5. Tera
Everything else was complete shit I didn't even sink two hours into
>TERA
all koreans mmos have potential but they make more money shitting them out than they do working on them long term. That's why every single one looks same same. I don't trust anything from korea anymore because it's all just fricking abandonware
Ragnarok Online was the exception but I agree. Probably the most fun I've had in any game ever.
TERA, Sword of Legends Online, and Elyon and deserved to live
I enjoyed Elyon's combat, but the RNG progression system and character design weren't great.
SOLO was just trash, and not because it was Chinese.
Surely no one has sunk significant time into 10 MMOs, r-right?
1. Ragnarok Online
2. Guild Wars 1 (never played 2)
3. FF14
4. WoW
5. TERA (it had so much potential...)
>(never played 2)
Based. Forget about it like it was a nightmare.
>NOOO YOU MUST BEAT UP TRANNIES INSTEAD
>see "BIGOT"
>think of myself
>get offended
Do you also get mad when games tell you to kill the bad guy?
I miss SMT Imagine so much.
>Goyslop, the genre
The frick do you think videogames are moron?
There's plenty of good games, you stupid moron, just look at nintendo's catalogue you stupid moron
Videogames are goyslop period. Doesn't matter how good they are.
We're on the goyslop discussion board dipshit. If you want to talk about things that aren't you need to leave the internet and talk to real humans.
>undertale
>goyslop
fricking kys
Why do you consoom and defend goyslop?
forgot about Dragons Dogma Online, I would've played the shit out of that if I didn't get filtered by moonrunes. I'm still salty that it and the Dragon Quest MMO didn't get localized
I forgot that Dragon Quest Online is supposed to be an MMO. If it is, I guess it'd be #7 it's pretty fun
Fresh RIFT classic private servers or if a real company bought RIFT and made expansions and changes that'd bring people back (remove the P2W) it'd be the best MMO on the market today
The best way to rank the Mmos
1. Wow
2. Black desert
3. Lost ark
4. Tera
>2. Black desert
>3. Lost ark
GW1>Dungeons and Dragons Online>Runescape>WoW vanilla-wrath>WoW Classic>Rift>City of Hero's>Wildstar>FF14.
Played other but would never say they were my favorites
>WoW vanilla-wrath
If you like Wrath you'll love retail/Dragonflight
I've played retail in BFA and hated it, I didn't see much overlap. What does Dragonflight do thats similar to Wrath?
>heirlooms
>teleporting straight to dungeons
>leveling dungeons are a cakewalk
>no one has to talk
>no need to actually split up packs
>GO GO GO mentality
>achievements
>tons of pets and mounts to find
>mounts at 30 for basically free
Why are you so upset? No one said you had to like WoW anon.
moron
Seething over nothing makes no sense.
Oh and honorable mention Marvel Heroes just in the off chance people consider it an MMO but I would imagine most won't. It would be number 7 on that list if so.
1. Ragnarok Online
2. Pirates of the Caribbean Online
3. That WoW trial I played for 15 minutes
4. That Maple Story trial I played for 15 minutes
1. Runescape before 2008
2. Lineage 2
3. Wild Star
4. Guild Wars 1
5. New World
6. EverQuest
7. WoW
8. Tera
9. BDO
10. PSO2
the only mmo I enjoyed was planetside 2
The fact there is no discussions about mmo's in this thread a random moron raging throughout it makes me think this thread was in fact not made to talk about mmos
>come here to winge
i hate browns
This zoomer weedBlack person list is missing so many good mmos
unironically pic related.
basically only playing Eve now because i've played the everliving frick out of the other 2 so much that there's nothing else left to do in them, plus the other 2 are too time consuming.
eve is pretty casualgay, married dad with 2 hours a week playtime friendly.
if you know you'll be busy for a few weeks you can queue up a long skill plan, set some industry jobs and fill the market with shit to sell or HODL and come back later richer.
>eve
lol
lmao even
roflcopter mayhaps
i tried so hard to like that game
I've followed the lore and green text stories the controversies but i just cant enjoy it no matter how much i tried
its 90% comfy with the last 10% being shitting your pants adrenaline PVP that gives you night sweats.
osrs should be on here
That was far after I played. I stopped in 2006
1. Mabinogi
2. OSRS
3. Maplestory 2
4. Maplestory when it was good
5. Neosteam
Haven't played others (Tera, FF14, WoW) enough to rate them. Played ESO for a while though and it never clicked
MMOs are better when I can get lost doing stupid nonsense with or next to other people instead of zeroing in on rushing Content
MUSHROOM GAME
The only one I actually liked is Eden Eternal, played the frick out of it for the entire year in 2013 when I was 14-15 yo. Almost didn't promote that year because didn't want to go to school just because I wanted to play (and because I was depressed as frick and the game was the only thing making me happy in part).
Played some WoW years later too, but never got the experience of meeting random people and making friends like in Eden. Everyone was already in their own closed groups.
God man this shit is nostalgic asf
>uo
>eq
>anarchy online
>daoc
>swg
>shadowbane
>eq2
>wow
>runescape
>warhammer online
why the frick do people suck off RO so much? That game had 0 content
>gw1 (factions > nightfall > og > eotn)
>runescape (til about 2005)
>ffxi
>warhammer online
>eve
those are the only ones i could put on a list that i've played that i still think about my time with fondly. i quit before the frickery got too bad, from what i understand, in ffxi and eve, and runescape is just being corpse walked (also fortunately quit before all the dumb changes)
Rakion when it was good
Dragon Nest when it was good
Elsword when it was good
Warframe when it was good
Blade and Soul when it was good
Silkroad when it was new
FFXIV before Endwalker
Toram Online (I no longer play this. But it was enjoyable, also nothing happened to it, I just moved on from mobile gaming)
Path of Exile
Guild Wars 2
I haven't even played 1, I don't understand how you people can play 19 different ones enough to put them on a list.
I haven’t played ten of them and certainly haven’t gotten very far in any of them, but I guess this is my tier list:
>World of Warcraft
>Guild Wars
>Final Fantasy XIV
>Guild Wars 2
I’ve barely put much time into anything on this list besides WoW and FFXIV, but I got the bug to play classic WoW again recently. FFXI also sounds very interesting to me.
In no particular order:
PSOBB
Ragnarok Online
Celes Arca
Wizardry Online
LOTRO
Eden Eternal
Onigiri
FFXIV
