I need to do a play through of a paladin that has the dark urge, struggling to remain faithful to his oaths.
How does the Vengeance oath work?
Here's a breakdown of the three oaths:
Devotion: I will protect the weak, slay evil, and show mercy
Vengeance: By my honor I swear to slay all evildoers, no matter the cost. There will be no mercy, for all evildoers will be put to the sword
Ancients: I will protect nature, the weak, slay evil, and uphold the old (druid) ways. Basically the Druid / Hippy version of a Devotion paladin
It's still a paladin, but instead of directly protecting the innocent, they hunt down and kill evil people before they can harm anyone else. Generally, they show no mercy.
Vengeance is probably the best for two-handed sword stuff, but you can do it on devotion. And it wouldn't be terrible on Ancients. Vengeance and Oathbreaker are more of an emphasis on damage.
The benefit of devotion for 2H builds is that sacred weapon increases your hit chance

Yep just start 2 other instances of the .exe from the bin folder in the game files. They all have to be vulkan or all dx11. Then start multiplayer game for lan / direct connect, and hope you dont crash when you make the other 2 characters. As soon as you are in the nautaloid with all 3, you can close the non-main windows and save your game and go back to singleplayer if you desire and you can just control the others.

If it's very accurate to the TTRPG go with Battle Master. Champion is strong but boring. Battle Master has fun tools that have a lot of use.
Definitely not Eldritch Knight, if you hate choices. Champion is the most braindead and crittiest Fighter subclass, so it definitely sounds perfect for you. At that point, though, you may as well ditch the custom character and just go all-in with Lae'zel.

Menacing or Trip are really solid choices. If you plan to have a Rogue in your team Commander's Strike can be good since the rules for Sneak Attack are once per turn and not once per round. But you may want to check if they fixed that for this game.

I saw some gameplay in the mortisimal review. It looks like shit with spells making huge explosions and knocking enemies down then them immediately standing back up and returning to their idle animation, at least one section has you follow an npc around which amounts to running slightly ahead and waiting for them to catch up, and there's something horribly off about the battle maps that makes them just look weird.

Is there like some penalty to pick pocketing that isn't clear? I keep trying to steal from this merchant and the stat to clear is like 10 or less and asterion has a +7 to pick pocketing, yet I keep failing. Am I just repeatedly rolling 2s?

Sorcerers vs Wizards??? What's the distinction?
From what I can see wizard get to prepare spells but they can only cast each spell once. Sorcerer spell selection is much fewer but they can spam any spell until they run out of that particular spell slot lvl.
Personally I went for Sorcerer because i'm more familiar with pathfinder and I just hate prepared spellcasters in that system. Also I want to do CHA skills like persuasion with my main character instead of INT skills like knowledges. I have no idea what is meta though or if picking certain things will screw up my build. Or is 5e so moron proof that anything I do is probably fine?
Nah. Wizards work like Sorcerers in 5E. You can use any spell you want long as you have slots. So if you have 5 spell casts left, you can shoot 5 fireballs or use any other spell you want.
I think Sorcs get meta-magic while Wizards can learn more spells from scrolls and shit.
Wizards still need to prepare spells but it isn't like old vancian magic. You just prepare up to a certain amount of spells each day, you don't actually assign them to specific spell slots. So if I have 4 level 1 slots and can prepare 3 spells, I can spend those 4 slots on any combination of the 3 spells I prepare. 4 casts of magic missile, or 2 magic missile 2 sleep, etc. But I'd still need to choose magic missile and sleep as prepared spells. Close to how sorcerers used to work, but not quite.
Wrong. Both can cast whatever spells they have available spontaneously, but wizard selects his available spells from a larger pool. Mainly, wiz vs. sorc is int vs. cha, go with what you prefer.

I'm playing through with a buddy. I'm sad there's no lone wolf option like Swen speculated on years ago, but only because on my eventual solo playthroughs I can't really tism my way through every encounter with a single character. Playing through DoS2 like a dozen times like that was fun. Doing a Pact of the Blade warlock right now, not sure how I feel about it. Druid and Pally seem very cool, I'll do playthroughs with those next.

As a 5e expert it's my advice that you don't touch any products that are based on the 5e ruleset.
Well I touched BG3 so I need an opinion.
Warlock is not really a full caster. They have very few spell slots, but get them back on short rests and always cast them at the highest possible level. They rely on either a damage cantrip called Eldritch Blast or melee attacks with the blade pact feature to do damage, and only use their spells sparingly.
Sorcerers are a CHA based full spellcaster that get metamagic to alter how they cast their spells.
Both classes are good and can do things no one else can, but they're pretty different from each other.
Ah ok. I was confused because I looked at Wyll's stats and it looked like a full caster array despite him being looking very swashbuckly fighterish so I figured warlock was just like Pathfinder's Witch class. I guess it functions more like some kind of magus/witch hybrid?
Yeah, something like that. EB is a very strong ranged cantrip with damage and attacks per round on par with ranged martials (once you pick up the optional class feature for +CHA to damage) on the best damage type in the game, and further investment into EB class feature add-ons let you do shit like pull/push every enemy on-hit with no save. With the melee feature they also get to use CHA for hit/damage melee rolls and summon+gain proficiency with any type of melee weapon they want. That's the bread and butter of the class, basically acting as a martial attacker, but then they've got their short rest spell slots and a number of spells unique to the warlock spell list to provide strong utility/cc/damage a limited amount of times per battle and they get a bunch of passive class features ontop of that, choosing from stuff like the added EB effects or unlimited castings of specific low level utility spells or the ability to see through normal AND magical darkvision, etc. It's an interesting class and can be made really strong but not at all a traditional full caster.

I'm not sure whether I should play a class I have or haven't actually played in DND. Only Cleric, Fighter, Warlock, Wizard and Sorcerer I haven't played. Warlock doesn't have Hexblade subclass looks like which sucks.
They buffed blade pact to just have the blade stuff of hexblade. Too bad if you wanted the hex stuff though.
Oh shit that's kind of interesting. Not having the hex is fine since you get the cool stuff in the other sub classes.

I suspect it's not super feasible to solo on normal difficulty and up at least. There's no lone wolf trait like in divinity. You can eventually recruit generic hirelings but you'll need a party.
