No. SNES had some good to great games, yes, but the Genesis had a far superior sound chip. Now the Super Famicom? Ok, I'll give you that, but the SNES was ugly for starters and generally had less good games overall.
If you had a Genesis then you could have After Burner II, Golden Axe, and Ghouls n' Ghosts, but if you had a SNES you could have U.N. Squadron and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, so it almost evens out. Both are cool, but the Genny is way more sexy.
SNES cost $50 more so it was the premium option. Nintendoes some things Genesisn't, but SNES also sucks in its own ways. the slow CPU and sprite limits can be very noticeable to a knowledgeable adult.

The Genesis is notorious for having a more rock n' roll soundchip as opposed to the more classical sounding SNES, so if you have any idea of how popular rock and metal were back then, you'd know that SEGA had the market cornered on what was cool. Yes, the Genesis was cool, the SNES just had some good games. Difference.

The stigma that poor kids and blacks owned the Genesis over the SNES does mostly hold true from my experience. The Genesis was the cheaper option and had a ton of sports titles that normies ate up.
My parents are STILL married and I grew up with NES & SNES that they bought us. Had to buy a Genesis/Sega CD on my own later and a Saturn too.
I don’t really play any SNES anymore because Genesis/Sega CD is more fun. PCE & NES are good too but that SNES can’t hold my attention anymore. And the SNES controller is not as good as Sega’s.

my parents were financially israeli and i was forced to buy all my own computers and consoles with money i slaved for. got master system first then megadrive (snes wasn't released yet!). nes bored me to tears and played it for years at relatives house. i think i recall paying something like $400 for it at the time but my memory could be wrong.
