>PROFESSIONAL (job vaguely related to the music industry) REACTS TO (video game soundtrack)
>they just nod their head to the beat and offer some basic comments like "i like what he did with the tempo there"
Why the frick does this shit exist? Who wants to sit and watch a guy nod to the beat of an entire two hour long soundtrack?
The people subscribed to those channels probably
I don't know i just like how knowledgeable he is about music
>knowledgeable
i skipped to a random part of a video and for the entire 3 or so minute song he:
- nodded the entire time
- started counting the beat for a total of 15 seconds
- said "this is so good"
- explained that sometimes people use odd time signatures
that's it
That's the thing to youtubers. They don't need to know anything about their topic or subject, they just need to know more than their viewers and that's easy because their public are the kind of people who don't know anything at all.
The only good videos of this type are if they break down specifically why certain sounds, keys, notes, etc. Are played and how they infulence the way you feel. Saying
>i like this part
Is a meaningless statement. Everyone who likes this song likes this part. That's fluff, not content, and trash
Show me a video where a guy takes a song and breaks it down into peices, talks about individual instrument's parts, talks about how track fits with what is happening in game or on screen, how the theme or motif fits, why theres a shift in the song or fricking anything other than npc garbage
Reacting is NOT analyzing
Reacting is TRASH
based. I agree. Last part:
>Reacting is NOT analyzing
>Reacting is TRASH
is especially poignant, I think a lot of people think reacting is analyzing. I mean on the surface they look exactly the same because a good analyzer will make clear the references for their analysis
This is partly because most analysis videos on Youtube are basically a slow form or nature documentary version of reaction content, and the longer and broader scope of the video the more reaction like. Many are just describing what everyone can already see on the screen without providing any additional thoughts.
>In this 10h video I am going to provide a complete analysis of Dark Souls with emphasis put on its game design and level design
>Standing in the hallway, in front of us, is a hollow. He looks distraught just like all humanity has left him. He is armed, ready to fight. After we defeat him we move on, and past a gate are two more hollows.
>Deep inside the Catacombs, after Pinwheel, lies the Tomb of the Giants. It is very dark in here and without a light source we won’t get far
>Before we enter Quelaggs Domain we might run across Mildred, the eater of men. Some may ask why she is down here invading anyone who dares approach the bell of awakening. Past her we come across the egg burdened who carry parasitic eggs on their backs. Some may ask why they are down here and why they carry parasitic eggs. Past them we encounter Quelagg. Some may ask why she is guarding the bell of awakening. We defeat her and ring the bell of awakening. In the distance, far away, a giant guarding a fortress awakes and opens the gate to the fortress. Some might ask themselves why.
And so on.
This isn't an analysis, but a retelling, which might form the foundation of an analysis, since the subject matter must be introduced before being discussed, but on its own is insufficient as an analysis. If your example occured in a video that classifies itself as an analysis, then it is clickbait.
>if
Dude, it’s basically every video that proclaims to analyze anything beyond a very small scope. Sometimes qualifying statements like ”this is good” is thrown in. Generally none of the things I wrote are necessary at all because you’re expect that those who are interested in an analysis are familiar with the source material
This is the only good soundtrack analysis ive seen
Best Music coach is just bad, I gave him few tries too, yuck
His videos got longer and more in depths over time.
Your criticism is valid for his earlier stuff where he just did track after track.
No idea who you're talking about but the few videos I've ever clicked on like that they they listen to it first (and actually listen instead of talking all over the song like you seem to want) and the analysis comes after.
At least it's not clickbait. It's really a composer reacting to vg music. If you don't want that - just don't click on the video.
OJ Simpson reacts to Silent Hill 2
Hehe
YouTube algorithm promotes consistency, clicks and watchtime over creativity and innovation.
Don't hate the player, hate the game. Brother making cheddar while the sun is shining.
big brain
>Don't hate the player
This is said by people who help bring about a degeneration in what was before, to try and wash away their part culpability in what is now.
You may be a "player", but that means you are part of the game and you helped changed what was to what is now.
i generally like OST breakdowns by those who know things about music but this guy kinda just sucks at it
All reaction content is by freeloading leaches who deserve death
>actress reacts to movie
uh huh, sure..
>actress reacts to playstation exclusive
>OPERA SINGER reacts to [VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACK] // SHOCKED!!!
im so tired of it
that's like making a video titled "school lunchlady reacts to gordon ramsay's cooking"
It's self affirming slop. People watch it because it makes them feel special about liking something, like they have good taste because this expert says it's amazing.
Professional pornstar reacts to WEG
>Professional pornstar reacts to WEG
>professional scatter reacts to kusoge
I did actually stumble across some channel that did this stuff. But they also transcribed the music into sheet music and analysed the music theory behind the composition afterwards in a step by step analysis of the sheet music.
That was kind of cool. Or seemed like it to my untrained eyes and ears at least.
But since I've got little interest in music like that I didn't bookmark it and can't remember the channel.
This guy popped up in a search so I had to see what kind of scam this was, he tries to deconstruct some Ar Tonelico songs because they make no musical sense or whatever.
The Hymmnos Language (ヒュムノス語, hyumunosu go?), called Hymnos in the English-localized materials of the series, is a language created by Akira Tsuchiya for the Ar tonelico series, that means the lyrics are gibberish.
Quote from the video: "[pauses video during a guitar solo] that electric guitar is symbolizing huh desperation, pain, frustration, rage, anger [edit cut] combining and [dramatic camera zoom] pivoting to a new era, a new chapter, a new beginning [unpauses song]". This shit is clickbait and has nothing to do with analyzing a song but brassing air for midwits.
>video is specifically about reacting to music
>is surprised when the tuber is doing that and not analyzing the lyrics
It's also a fricking reaction channel, the whole point is to go in blind based on viewer recks and try to make sense of what you can.
The firearm guy is cool at least.
>Undertale thread
>OP is autistic as frick
Just as usual.
I watched the one where he listened to Risk of Rain soundtrack and the composer was in the chat giving comments too so that was cool. I recall it being vaguely informative.
I'd love to see an absurd reaction channel like "real life pedophile reacts to video game little girls"
I know I've seen one with a former israeliteel thief reacting to movie heists. And a casino security guy reacting to movie card sharks.
>I know I've seen one with a former israeliteel thief reacting to movie heists. And a casino security guy reacting to movie card sharks.
That's the only 'reaction' crap I ever watch. It's actually interesting seeing people like a drug mule or mafia soldier talk about how their trade is displayed in films or vidya
Those are still fine
But the real navy seal or sniper react one are getting real cringe
Larry's an alright dude
I think it's the game journo website paying for the royal armory guy who branched out with "real assassin reacts to hitman"
I saw a video of real hitman playing hitman 3 or something similar.
Shit's getting out of control.
is that with the albanian guy? He’s a total fraud
>video goes viral
>he makes a channel
>starts getting DMs from female subscribers
I personally would prefer "Real Life Serial Killer Reacts to Video Game Murders"
I think the commentary could be insightful and full of fun jokes about all the people he killed.
"Real convicted mob hitman reacts to GTA"
Doesn't Mad Thad have a youtube channel?
Real escaped prisoner reacts to prison escapes.
>Real sociopath reacts to sociopaths in movies and games
Would subscribe and support on patreon
>ooh, so thats how you clean the bloodstains
>I love how he arranged the intestines and severed head there, it adds a nice shock for the first cops on the scene
>he brought his own tupperware for the ears and eyes, genius!
>REAL Romanian Vampire Expert reacts to Vampires in Media
this ones actually real
>skeleton reacts to bone textures
people are way too fricking lonely these days, so they watch those "react" stupid fricking videos instead of watching the actual video to feel as if they have a friend
Perhaps simps should be changed to sims. It’s not just pussies, it’s every streamer. People just love to pay for parasocial relationships
All these ''professional musicians'' who make music videos are frauds and pseuds. I've watched their videos and the only analysis they can give is counting the beat and going ''this is an odd time signature, see the time signature changed, the time signature is 4/4 and the time signature is being timey as frick right now, oh crap I am timing my signature to this beat so hard right now.''
I've been researching this shit people have been only talking about for the past 5 years and as far as I am concerned time signature is completely made up stupid nonsense, just arbitrary number of notes in a note sheet. The way they count the beats is completely arbitrary and that's all they care about. Not the beautiful melodies, not the vocal delivery, not the sound mixing, they go ''one two three one two three, oh sirs this is is a 3/2. Oh now I get it, it's 3/2. 3/2 32 323232323'' for the entire video.
AYO WE WUZ DAME DANEING N SHIEETT
The only guy worth watching for content like this is the one who analyzed Nier's OST from the music theory perspective. It's a shame he hasn't released new videos in a while.
Forgot the link
People who actually know music theory and can talk about the compositional aspects are by far the best for these. I wish I understood spanish because https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5LLHZf9ebU seems to be one of the best there is.
>been watching this guy for years
>most of his videos have been quite informative
>found out the sound they made for the ff8 card game song was a mouth harp
>he teaches us how sounds are made and what instruments are used
sorry OP but looks like you can't stop sucking dick and being a massive homosexual again.
there's plenty of shitty song reaction youtubers, but he ain't one of them.
You couldnt pay me to watch this schlop, good for him thoughever
>Steve Harvey reacts to obvious answers
HUH?
>Holocaust survivor reacts to Holocaust footage
theres some old guy music teacher on youtube who does this shit and his videos are fun and he always points out interesting things in the tracks
found him
I like the guy who makes actual singers/musicians listen to game music
>Real truck driver reacts to euro truck simulator
I hate those and I double fricking hate the channels where young black teens hear old ass white people music for the first time
Real Black person reacts to kfc
>Who wants to sit and watch a guy nod to the beat of an entire two hour long soundtrack
Epic gamer kids who want to feel like their hobby is being validated by adult ((professionals))
>real pokemon reacting to pokemon doujins
I would watch that
I don't know, some of these are pretty insightful.
dude its a fake chipmunk thats why they legally can't call the video "real chipmunk reacts"
I don't think you realise just how much of a cheatcode this type of content is.
Think about who the audience is going to be, obviously the fans of the soundtrack.
All you need to do is validate them.
Your credentials just let you waffle out some vaguely technical stuff that the vast majority will just agree with because they wouldn't know.
And if you just say it's good they'll be happy. "Yeah this guy gets it" etc.
You literally can't lose with this type of shit.
Most important part of reaction content is that someone else spent all the time creating the content while you just watch it in 10 minutes or whatever. Assmongoloid can watch 20 videos in a single stream where the videos themself have a total production time of several months, and his zero effort reaction will show up in people's recommendation over the original video because he dwarfs them in subs.
>b-but it gives more exposure to the channels!
it never did, pretty much every creator confirmed that reaction videos never equated to any boosts in popularity. i think it's pretty funny because some reaction channels literally shit on reaction content, critikal for example. he used to churn out reaction after reaction while also criticizing reaction channels.
Assmongold also is one of the worst types of hypocrite leeches in that his main revenue is from Reaction content, while going on a crusade against a Twitch stream channel called Fextralife because it embeds from their website which leeches sub numbers from their website to their streamer inflating their viewing numbers.
Assmongold calling it parasitical, while he himself is leeching directly from people who have no say in the matter from his Reaction content. Every single one of these morons is a c**t, no one looks good.
my reaction to this shit thread: clean it up, jannie
Music discussion online is very funny. The leitmotif meme especially so. No one is aware of how ridiculous they sound
>bro learn the guitar it'll get you some chicks
>after getting no chicks you try to do some damage control
>now you get attention of sweaty video game nerds on the internet
LMAO
>watch slop
>gets mad that it's crap
real junkie reacts to Need for Speed
I only like that one smash reaction video with a FF7 superfan knowing it was sephiroth by the fricking sound of his blade swoosh before the reveal started
>why does this shit exist
because people like to listen to people in supposed positions of authority tell them what they already believe in albiet in a fancier way so they can vicariously pretend that they're intelligent too. in other words people like to imagine themselves as the professionals so they can feel smart
because the people who watch just want validation
it is not enough that when they hear a song and it sounds good to them
someone or someone higher in the hierarchy/status than said person has to say that it sounds good too
this
the people who watch this are inherently insecure
they cant like something unless someone else also tells them its good
React content was the next big thing after letsplays for the youtube meta before short form videos took over. It allowed people to be successful without actually making content, its gay as hell but it works really well
>real suicide bomber reacts to headless kamikaze
Although this is low hanging fruit, it's far better than the most popular "React" content makers who don't know dick about the video they're watching and will react with "OH SHIT" "NICE" "I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!" "NO WAY DUDE!". With thumbnails of their slack jaw everywhere.
I like that asiatic bawd who plays the piano, I'm always curious to see how far she's willing to prostitute herself for views.
There's one bald dude who actually whips out the guitar and tries to replicate the OST while adding commentary of why it works so well, I enjoyed at least a couple of those videos. Reactions are nice for niche as frick series such as the Umineko VN, it enhances my appreciation of those soundtracks I already liked by putting their inner workings into words
In other words, reaction content is ok if the person reacting is seen as knowledgeable, or an expert on the subject as they are able to give some insight. Reaction content from window licking morons like Asmongold where his reaction amounts to pausing the video saying "That's wild" and rephrasing that for two minutes to claim he's transformed the video for it to be Youtube compliant.
There's actual music theory analysis videos out there. I don't know anything about it so I have no idea how good their analysis is though
Man, remember those "kids/old people react to last AAA game" shamelessly shilled on Neogaf?
I wish I didnt
I didn't watch many of them but some grandpa going apeshit over a Hatsune Miku ""live"" concert, claiming that it's awesome and the future, while the other old fricks just were confused or annoyed, will always be a fond memory.
