I want to like it, but something feels off about it, and I think it's a combination of the map projection and the camera. Especially the camera. Most strategy games, if they have pan-to-zoom, will pan towards the cursor when you zoom in, but either not pan when you zoom out, or continue to pan in the direction of the cursor. This feels more natural. Project Alice has the camera pan away from the cursor when you zoom out, and it's really, really, really irritating. The zoom increments also don't feel very good, and the map projection is ugly, and I'm pretty sure they did some fragment shader-based map rendering for elements like tile borders and such instead of generating meshes.
I also don't like the way that AI reactions to diplomatic actions are done instantly rather than on the next turn, and the lack of a response dialogue.
