I don't know what it is about them that loses their appeal so fast. And some moron is going to say "you're just le bad" but I climbed more ranks in SF6 than I ever have In League. I put like 80 hours into SF6 as my first fighting game ever, and got to Gold, then got bored and stopped.
I've literally been hard stuck Iron in league for like 2 years (on and off but still). To be fair. I'm not as addicted to league anymore as I used to be. But when I DO play league. I can easily play for the entire day without even realizing or intending to.
Fighting games are a high intensity-low duration genre while mobas are a low intensity-high duration one, you have probably the same amount of action in a match of either but one puts it all in 2-3 99 second rounds while the other stretches it over 25-45 minutes so it's only natural one would make you tired faster.
So I guess difficulty actually has nothing to do with it. Since I find League to be harder to be good at. Why doesn't anybody ever talk about this intensity-duration shit? Seems like the obvious reason morons whine that Fighting games aren't popular.
Honestly, it sounds counter intuitive. League games are long, and have tons of mental stack. And there are a plethora of moments where you just have to wait, or play it slow. I have ADHD so this is probably why I'm bad at it. But being on Ganker they make it seem like everybody has ADHD now. So shouldn't League be the less popular game? I actually wouldn't dub league "low intensity" I'd dub it "Mid Intensity" especially since they are so many ways to frick up, like literally in the first 10 minutes of the game. But anyway, my point is yeah, it sounds less intuitive for League to be the more successful game format.
Fighting games are high intensity because they require maximum focus the entirety of the time you're playing. In League at most points of the game you are not engaged in that level of intense focus, and are instead focusing on farming/positioning, timing your builds correctly, and only when you're going in on a 1v1 or a significant team fight do you ever have to focus on the same level you do in a fighting game, and the amount of time you do that in a single League match is highly limited.
And even then, depending on how the game is going, you STILL don't really have to focus if one side or the other is snowballing since your micro ability only goes so far if you're completely fricked, or fricking, on the macro level. If you're a fed Kha'zix, for example, you don't really have to focus on what you're doing, you just jump on people do your combo and they die. Whereas in a fighting game there is no macro component, you are on equal terms with your opponent the entire way through, so you have to maintain mental focus the entire time.
TLDR; League and games like it are far less mentally demanding than fighting games overall.

My point is that I've been stagnant in league forever, despite playing it longer than SF6, and on the contrary, I climbed multiple levels, fairly quickly, with zero experience in the genre. It also helps that SF6 is actually an incredibly simple game that you can grind out in the Lab, and league just throws you in, and you have to figure a ton of shit out.
Obviously people's experiences will be relative, but Fighting games being "oh so hard!" is overrated. They just have a lot of guessing, If anything, which can be feel very unsatisfying and unfair.

SF6 is designed to push you up quickly so you don't feel like you're stagnating, to the point you can't down-rank if you sit below Platinum, and you get massive points on any sort of streak up until Plat. Yes, fighting games aren't that hard, even though you see people hard stuck in bronze/silver, but the rate at which you progress compared to say SF5 is entirely different. If you have any competency you'll be high Diamond or Master. Hell most people say bare minimum understanding of your character and game will place you Master relatively quickly.
I'm not trying to be disparaging, but that's just the fact of the system in SF6 specifically.
A lot of the discourse around both fighting games and mobas is garbage from shitposters who've at best only touched one game from one of the genres and none from the other. That being said, SF6 definitely does a much better job of teaching you how to play (assuming you actually want to learn) than any moba does, and a better job than probably 95% of fighting games so the experience of picking it up for beginners is not what has been typical for the genre for the last 20 years.

I'm not even a Street Fighter head and was able to reach Platinum in less than 10 hours with Ken. Rank medals don't really mean anything unless you're aiming for the highest possible placement in a leaderboard for points in my humble opinion.

What a lot of people who haven't been following Riot Games for the past 7 years haven't found out yet is that like 90% of the staff at Riot literally do not know how to program or make games. They're all just designers or artists.
Hence why every single balance patch for both Valorant and LoL since late 2020 has been one disaster after another. It's not just the heads of the company that don't play video games. Most of Riot Games literally do not play vidya at all, let alone their own games.
I full fledge expect this game to be a complete dumpster fire that is abandoned and thrown in the trash in less than a year just like what happened with TFT. This is what happens when your games are made by people who have no idea how to make or patch a video game.

You could have just shortened that whole explanation down to "Riot made a shitty card game that was unbalanced and bad and then abandoned it less than a year later because they didn't know what they were doing."
Riot had great ideas about the game and had some cool ideas and features, the gamewas very abitious and wanted to be a tournament card game with an internal tournament system and honestly as far as game rules and mechanics go, it had some of the best in the card game genre. But unfortunately the balancing was non-existant and devs proceeded to print some of the most obnoxious unbalanced decks in the history of the world. It got so bad to the point people looked forward to patches more than they looked forward to new sets. Excluding the very first two years of the game, it was never balanced and while they really wanted to have a game with diverse decks and metas, it always revolved around the same decks. Riot then laid off their head devs and told fans they will switch to making a riot slay the spire and blamed fans for not paying to play the game.
Why people think riot's faightan will be any different, I don't know.
