Only star wars rts and has a neat combination of strategic galaxy layer, space battle and ground battles, although the latter is as weak point.
Despite having >400 hours on steam I can't think of much to tell about tbh.
Modding community is substantial, especially considering the game's age, with a lot of cooperation between teams. Some of them do make substantial changes to the way the game feels and is played.
The 2021 patch helped by removing most modding restrictions reinvigorating the modding scene.
>great galactic conquest campaign
The actual campaign, yes. The Galactic Conquest game mode? Frick no it's terrible, the campaign takes a godawful mode and makes it good by changing the scale and territories you can access per stage of the campaign.
Someone said it in another thread but the reason land combat is so bad is because land and space use the same momentum for movement. That's fine when you're turning around a frickhuge Star Destroyer, you expect that slowness in movement, not a fricking AT-ST
replace total war with medieval ii to stay with the franchise and you're 100% correct.
add stronghold crusader, aoe ii and anno 1404 and you got 70% of what I played from 8-16
prove yourself right first
ok boomer
Mount and blade bannerlord is better
Red pill me on Empire at War
It has a great galactic conquest campaign, with space and land battles. The modding community is also huge, there are endless mods.

what is Galactic Battlegrounds
AoE2 skin, a neat skin but still. And force commander iis bot only ancient but hard to get it to run if not impossible.
and star wars rebellion
More of a tactical game than an RTS?
Empire at War was made by former C&C devs and it fricking shows.
fugg :DDD

cool space battles and galactic turn based strategy
abysmal land combat

Mediocre game saved by the license and modding.

Add Medieval 2 to the list and its perfect.
Rome Total War is trash and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Battle for Middle Earth 2 is really good but I much prefer the campaign of the first game. Empire at War has pretty bad land battles.
>eaw has bad land battles
not when you're a child aka moronic

Shogun 2 > MTW 2
One needs mods, the other doesn't
sure but I played medieval ii more than shogun 2 and this meme is about nostalgia. shogun 2 came out five years later.
Dumb nostalgia goggles
