I'm currently in Stormblood and the blonde b***h is absolutely insufferable and probably one of the worst written characters I've ever had the misfortune of putting up with. Since you mention it, yes, I was expecting the void arc to wrap up this patch and 6.5 to be setting the stage for the next expansion. That's not why I'm mad though, if they want to keep it going all the way to 6.5 I'm fine with that. What I'm mad about is that if you have a villain with a specific goal in mind, and the story requires him to achieve that goal, just have him fricking do it straight up. Rather than having us fight him in an attempt to stop him, only for it to be completely pointless because being defeated in battle doesn't actually stop him from doing the thing we want to prevent.
Imagine for a moment, that you notice a person with a gun, about to kill an innocent child. As they're raising their gun, you see an opportunity and tackle him, attempting to wrestle the gun out of his hands and to stop him from killing someone. Eventually you manage to successfully pin him to the ground, preventing him from performing the deed. Congratulations, the day is sav- no wait, suddenly he teleports out from under you to the other end of the room and shoots the kid anyway.
That's what 6.4's MSQ is. If the story must end up with golbez getting his way, then just have him do it before we have the chance to stop him. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

The "great community" is full of toxic and fake positivity from discord groomers, redditors, twitter addicts, etc. These are the shut-ins that mmos attract now. It's not even so much the game, XIV is fine as a numbered FF, arguably the best since the merger. The genre itself is inadvertently causing the biggest problems. Outside of big expansions, the American audience is insufferable. There are huge weeb games like Honkai, Genshin, Zelda totk, etc and yet the biggest creeps all go and stay logged in to this Japanese mmo. These woke morons come here and everyone has to walk on eggshells around each other due to SE's liabilty fears. No one speaks publicly in XIV at all, and when they do it's in broken up half-sentences. These "people" don't even know how to communicate with each other anymore. Brains are entirely rotted by social media addiction and lack of normal human speech. The irony is that Blizzard are the ones pandering to these freaks yet the audiences for WoW and XIV seem to be swapped. It's near impossible to find regular people to play with. The FF name has been run into the ground over the last 2 decades thanks to all the 13 bullshit and the 14 launch. It has no pull power for normal people anymore.

This is the first time since ARR that they have pushed every new trial into the MSQ rather than a side story, not to mention half the team dealing with XVI still. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for now but if it doesn't lead up to anything in 6.5 well, that's just too bad. Remember Heavensward teased some shit with Albert but then turned into Stormblood, then Stormblood ended on a war but went into Shadowbringers. Anything could happen and I hope with XVI finished it can get back to improving.

I posted this in the other thread, but progressing the MSQ from ARR to EW is the most mind numbing, boring garbage I’ve ever slogged through, and this is coming from someone who really, really liked HW, ShB and EW. I feel so bad for players who don’t care about the story because all msq comes down to is: >open menu to teleport to closest Aetheryte to point B >read prompt after prompt of boring fricking dialogue from characters you don’t give a shit about 80% of the time >ride mount to point C >watch a 10 second long animation complete >kill a piss easy enemy that you are always overgeared/overleveled to have a decent fight with >open menu and go back to point A and watch a boring low budget cutscene where characters stare and nod at each other >quest complete >rinse and repeat for 100+ hours for EVERY expansion
No challenging enemies, no interesting story (for a majority of the time), no meaningful decision making. Progressing through the MSQ is literal shit and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

I fricking hate the inventory UI and the armory. Gearing up after a long break is a complete pain ass, constant in and out of menus because you have to do everything one at time. Makes me wish I didn't level up 80% of these fricking jobs because they just fill my inventory with clutter and shit. FRICK!

Of all the Scions, Yshtola never has anything bad happen to her. Every Scion up until now has had to go through a growth period. Where they confront their inner demons and grow as a person and have a personal arch they completed to overcome their flaws in the past and grow from it.
Yshtola has had none of this. She never shows any sign of growth or change she never had to confront her demons, because she doesnt have any. She never had to overcome any flaws, because she doesnt have any worth writing about and are superficial.
And lets not forget how many times shes been saved by Deus Ex machina and cheats death. Once in ARR, a second time in Stormblood, and a third and Shadowbringers. Whenever someone else came to death, like in Shadowbringers, it was tense, it was dramatic, and you genuinely were concerned if they were going to live. Yshtola didnt have this because its obvious she wasnt going to die.
Lastly, everyone instantly loves, and agrees with her. With Magnai simping over her, and Zero almost instantly connecting with her. Why Yshtola? Why did they pair Zero, a character who lost her entire world and has tried so desperately tried to solve everything on her own because of her own pride and failing herself and the others she vowed to protect, with someone who never had such an issue?
On the First, Urianger and Thancred were showing signs of exhaustion because of their Aether. The one person who should have problems because she uses it to see? No problems whatsoever.
Yshtola doesnt deserve to be the "mascot" of FF14 only second (debatably) to the WOL Midlander poster boy. Yshtola should be the poster girl for how to sneak in a Mary Sue by making them a catgirl.
She went blind, she spent 2 years fighting with her friends and being deceived, gaslit and used as scapegoat.

Estinien doesn't like her much, this storyline is the first time he manages to work with her without constant grumbling. And be still asked at the start of there was no one else available.

Otherwise, can you point towards a character that has ever gone "I just can't stand Thancred/Urianger/G'raha/Estinien/Etc." Actually I guess Alphinaud is the only other Scion who has had someone just actively dislike him for being like he is.

That sucks though. I hate this milquetoast party. The parties in 7, 8, 9, 10, etc were all full of fricking crazy flawed people who constantly fricked things up, got on each other's nerves, and kept secrets from each other. The only time the Scions ever felt like that was ShB where they all got timeskipped and grew distant.
I've got mixed feelings on that because while it's true that often the cool part of an rpg party is seeing how they clash, I'm also fricking sick of dysfunctional ones that clash so often that the game feels more like babysitting than an actual group. All in all I'd rather they just do the ShB thing where the conflicts are more eventual and occasionally you have an npc like Emet to challenge their beliefs than just having them constantly arguing every step of the way.
I fricking hate the entire party in BG3 and they're the sole reason I don't look forward to that game as much as I should.

I hope they'll get a grip and focus on this game again starting from 7.0. Some people thought of SHB as the filler expac but I think post EW better fits the epithet
my biggest issue with post EW is how they made a whole thing about going back to good ol' adventuring for a while, lowering the stakes etc. Now here we are with the fricking source on the verge of being conquered by a voidsent born of a shard of zodiark and y'shtola learning how to traverse the rift with massive success. they haven't slowed anything down at all and it's just making me fatigued
I can see why they went that route. How could you match an universe ending threat, story-wise? If you pull an ARR it's not going to look as impressive. There are people who would genuinely enjoy it can you say the same about the rest? Maybe you are right and they should've used post EW as chance to go back to simple adventuring and leave world ending threats to the next expac but I doubt that would've helped keeping player retention at the same levels without causing even more loss of interest. It still baffles me how the game managed to not drop that many players after EW. Maybe they are living off past content that's still relevant from a new player's point of view but for how long can they use past hype while they try to figure out where to head next?
I usually always resub just for the story and while 6.1 and 6.2 were ok 6.3 bored me to fricking tears and I felt like I was back at the worst ports of stormblood again.

I don’t play MMOtrash, and the MMOs don’t really count as mainline FF games. Also, Soken is way overrated by people who only ever played FFXIV and none of the other FFs.
I listened to the soundtracks on Spotify after hearing how much better than every other FF composer Soken is. My conclusion is that FFXIV players haven’t ever listened to the other FF OSTs.
Uh what? They shuffle around the congested status based on population. Last patch balmung faerie and tigers were congested so everyone made characters on the other servers. Now THOSE older servers that used to be congested are considered standard and the ones that weren’t are now congested.
It isn’t dying tho. It wasn’t able to have new players make characters or accept transfers for a long time, and they went to other servers. Now people can make them again. It doesn’t mean it’s dying, it means that the others servers got some of the new player slack and now people can make stuff on the more popular servers again..
The quality of MMOs is dictated by the quality of the players. I enjoyed FF14 immensely but found that a significant proportion, possibly even a majority of players, are literally mentally ill. It kinda makes sense because FF14 is perfect for their escapism. While it didn't affect my own enjoyment of the game most of the time, playing with mentally ill people all the time eventually wore me down and so I quit.
I'd like something like FFXI's dungeons. Big, sprawling mazes with interactive elements. FFXIV dungeons are still fun as cinematic on-rails experiences, but I'd like a bit more variety.
No chance, the playerbase of this game is 99% moronic trannies, compared to the mostly autistics playerbase of XI. The first drop off with no return would make them unsub.

There are people who play this only for the raiding, which boggles my mind. The story, the world and the characters are the reasons what make rest of the game worth it. The gameplay isn't BAD, but it's not great enough to justify skipping all story content or playing the game at all.

The Scions are hands down one of the worst parties I've ever had to deal with in a Final Fantasy game. And the over-reliance on them generally takes me out of the experience whenever I play it.
Also, holy shit. This game needs to stop introducing characters for a questline, build them up, kill them off and then give me 50 flashbacks and "remember this character" scenes of them.

I just finished 6.0. Endwalker was a generic hero tale, absolutely fricking nothing happened.
The story was all over the place. We spent hours focusing on magic russia for their leader to die and turn into radio waves. Then he disappeared from the plot.
The Final Days were ultimately just a mild inconvenience, I’m not sure why they expected me to care about the elephant people. Show a city getting destroyed or something.
I can go on and on, but this is just a few hours worth of EW. The story makes no fricking sense and it’s a mishmash of bullshit that they’re making up as they go, like Kingdom Hearts.
The game has terrible netcode and every class that isn’t Ninja puts me to sleep. It’s an overrated game, the people who champion it have played like 3 games total in their entire life

Despite Square's best efforts to unfrick the starting player experience, most new players will quit before hitting HW if they don't have friends to handhold them through the "legacy" content
The end game is fun. I botted all the classes 90 so can't speak on leveling and I never read a single line of dialogue or watched a single cutscene so I can't speak on that either. Raiding is fun though.

Nothing in the game seems worthwile doing in the long term. Either the rewards aren't very great, or the content isn't very fulfilling, or the bad UI is exhausting, or all of the above.
I kid you not, the thing that made me the most happy about 6.4 is that you can use your wing-accessoires during combat, even though it still doesn't work in instances.
They are taking baby-steps with the variety of the content, and its really frustrating if you play the game at a patch by patch basis.

Rewards being not worth it is definitely one of the worst things on that list. It's a real problem. They are so hell-bent on keeping you from progressing or making any real strides above other players they actually hamper your rewards for your efforts. On the other hand everyone is a notorious cheater using third party plugins and this applies to even PvP and Ultimate content.
This game honestly deserves to die with how complacent the community at large is and how lazy the developers have become.

Bots, fricking bots, they sell all kinds of things, they have smart floors at which they stop undercutting to make a profit so you can't do the usual 'just buy out the bot's stock/just undercut the bot' meme you get told on the forums. They are absolutely horrendous to fight against for high volume stuff like crafted gear beacause they undercut every couple of seconds depending on the bot. Your only recourse is to literally stay at the marketboard and check every minute to see if you've been undercut.
Here's an example of a bot free company, reported like fifty million times with evidence and everything, Square didn't care. Note all the level 22 alts. There is always one or more perpetually logged on, idling at the retainer bell, checking prices and undercutting.

The game would have alot of players if it also respect players who don't want to follow the story. Post story content is the biggest filter for people who just want to play the game and all its mechanics . For a game that people say that it respects the player's time, it sure doesn't respect people who aren't into the story. I think the Game needs an enhanced interactive glossary which you can access while being in a cutscene.
Personally i love the story, but it needs to also appeal to players who want to rush to the raids and pvp and check the story later. It's a toughie to balance but if more thought is put into it I'm sure it can be done

Dungeons are hallways with 3 bosses and filler mobs more akin to riding a themepark ride. and it feels like every fight gets stale as shit the moment you know the mechanics, and its just a matter of hoping one of the other 7 people dont frick up.

I think mob grinding is fine if theres like reward. rare drops or something maybe? Farming mobs in ragnarok online for 0.01% drop cards that can potentially change the way you play your character if you got one was hella fun for me.

Every class does more or less the same damage, with the only distinction not even mattering because you usually have 2 melee one ranged 1 caster anyway.
The skills are uninspired.
a 123 combo, an aoe combo, two buffs, two ogcd's and a resource meter.
The gear for each class is boring cookie cutter shit that literally just increases your numbers a bit. There's nothing exciting about getting new gear in this game aside from glamour.
Healers get to use 3 whole buttons on average for combat.
Everything is so uniformly bland about combat. It bores the hell out of me.

Thinking about it, it's kind of bewildering that their introduction to the story is first ignoring you the entire carriage ride, then showing up out of nowhere and seemingly following you for no reason to keep shittalking every place you go even though you didn't ask their opinion or even greeted them.

I'm currently in Stormblood and the blonde b***h is absolutely insufferable and probably one of the worst written characters I've ever had the misfortune of putting up with. 6.4's MSQ committed the cardinal sin of having us fight a guy with the explicit purpose of stopping him from doing something, winning, only for him to still do it anyway via cutscene powers, invalidating the entire point of fighting him to begin with. I can forgive many nitpicks about inconcistencies or minor retcons, but that stuff right there is storytelling blasphemy.

Since you mention it, yes, I was expecting the void arc to wrap up this patch and 6.5 to be setting the stage for the next expansion. That's not why I'm mad though, if they want to keep it going all the way to 6.5 I'm fine with that. What I'm mad about is that if you have a villain with a specific goal in mind, and the story requires him to achieve that goal, just have him fricking do it straight up. Rather than having us fight him in an attempt to stop him, only for it to be completely pointless because being defeated in battle doesn't actually stop him from doing the thing we want to prevent.
Imagine for a moment, that you notice a person with a gun, about to kill an innocent child. As they're raising their gun, you see an opportunity and tackle him, attempting to wrestle the gun out of his hands and to stop him from killing someone. Eventually you manage to successfully pin him to the ground, preventing him from performing the deed. Congratulations, the day is sav- no wait, suddenly he teleports out from under you to the other end of the room and shoots the kid anyway.
That's what 6.4's MSQ is. If the story must end up with golbez getting his way, then just have him do it before we have the chance to stop him. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Remember Heavensward teased some shit with Albert but then turned into Stormblood, then Stormblood ended on a war but went into Shadowbringers. Anything could happen and I hope with XVI finished it can get back to improving.

I posted this in the other thread, but progressing the MSQ from ARR to EW is the most mind numbing, boring garbage I’ve ever slogged through, and this is coming from someone who really, really liked HW, ShB and EW. I feel so bad for players who don’t care about the story because all msq comes down to is:

While mostly subjective, there should be more challenging fights / random encounters and gear that actually matters outside of savage raids. Gear not mattering is a huge problem in XIV.

it falls short of drawing me in from a normal pace while being able to absorb all the factions and power dynamics; you have to keep a fast pace to follow through with all the content with your friends, and if you're playing alone then just play a regular RPG.
I fricking hate the inventory UI and the armory. Gearing up after a long break is a complete pain ass, constant in and out of menus because you have to do everything one at time. Makes me wish I didn't level up 80% of these fricking jobs because they just fill my inventory with clutter and shit. FRICK!

Of all the Scions, Yshtola never has anything bad happen to her. Every Scion up until now has had to go through a growth period. Where they confront their inner demons and grow as a person and have a personal arch they completed to overcome their flaws in the past and grow from it.
Yshtola has had none of this. She never shows any sign of growth or change she never had to confront her demons, because she doesnt have any. She never had to overcome any flaws, because she doesnt have any worth writing about and are superficial.
And lets not forget how many times shes been saved by Deus Ex machina and cheats death. Once in ARR, a second time in Stormblood, and a third and Shadowbringers. Whenever someone else came to death, like in Shadowbringers, it was tense, it was dramatic, and you genuinely were concerned if they were going to live. Yshtola didnt have this because its obvious she wasnt going to die.
Lastly, everyone instantly loves, and agrees with her. With Magnai simping over her, and Zero almost instantly connecting with her. Why Yshtola? Why did they pair Zero, a character who lost her entire world and has tried so desperately tried to solve everything on her own because of her own pride and failing herself and the others she vowed to protect, with someone who never had such an issue?
On the First, Urianger and Thancred were showing signs of exhaustion because of their Aether. The one person who should have problems because she uses it to see? No problems whatsoever.
Yshtola doesnt deserve to be the "mascot" of FF14 only second (debatably) to the WOL Midlander poster boy. Yshtola should be the poster girl for how to sneak in a Mary Sue by making them a catgirl.

The parties in 7, 8, 9, 10, etc were all full of fricking crazy flawed people who constantly fricked things up, got on each other's nerves, and kept secrets from each other. The only time the Scions ever felt like that was ShB where they all got timeskipped and grew distant.
I've got mixed feelings on that because while it's true that often the cool part of an rpg party is seeing how they clash, I'm also fricking sick of dysfunctional ones that clash so often that the game feels more like babysitting than an actual group. All in all I'd rather they just do the ShB thing where the conflicts are more eventual and occasionally you have an npc like Emet to challenge their beliefs than just having them constantly arguing every step of the way.

I hope they'll get a grip and focus on this game again starting from 7.0. Some people thought of SHB as the filler expac but I think post EW better fits the epithet
my biggest issue with post EW is how they made a whole thing about going back to good ol' adventuring for a while, lowering the stakes etc. Now here we are with the fricking source on the verge of being conquered by a voidsent born of a shard of zodiark and y'shtola learning how to traverse the rift with massive success. they haven't slowed anything down at all and it's just making me fatigued
I can see why they went that route. How could you match an universe ending threat, story-wise? If you pull an ARR it's not going to look as impressive. There are people who would genuinely enjoy it can you say the same about the rest? Maybe you are right and they should've used post EW as chance to go back to simple adventuring and leave world ending threats to the next expac but I doubt that would've helped keeping player retention at the same levels without causing even more loss of interest. It still baffles me how the game managed to not drop that many players after EW. Maybe they are living off past content that's still relevant from a new player's point of view but for how long can they use past hype while they try to figure out where to head next?

Is it worth coming back for the 6.4 MSQ?
I usually always resub just for the story and while 6.1 and 6.2 were ok 6.3 bored me to fricking tears and I felt like I was back at the worst ports of stormblood again.
I'm not interest in wasting 15 bucks just to get more of that.
I don’t play MMOtrash, and the MMOs don’t really count as mainline FF games. Also, Soken is way overrated by people who only ever played FFXIV and none of the other FFs.

Uh what? They shuffle around the congested status based on population. Last patch balmung faerie and tigers were congested so everyone made characters on the other servers. Now THOSE older servers that used to be congested are considered standard and the ones that weren’t are now congested.

The quality of MMOs is dictated by the quality of the players. I enjoyed FF14 immensely but found that a significant proportion, possibly even a majority of players, are literally mentally ill. It kinda makes sense because FF14 is perfect for their escapism. While it didn't affect my own enjoyment of the game most of the time, playing with mentally ill people all the time eventually wore me down and so I quit.

If the story is so good why do they sell a story skip? The game would be much better and consistent if the game had a "Full", and a "Raid/Dungeons" only version for half the price. I just finished 6.0. Endwalker was a generic hero tale, absolutely fricking nothing happened.
The story was all over the place. We spent hours focusing on magic russia for their leader to die and turn into radio waves. Then he disappeared from the plot.
The Final Days were ultimately just a mild inconvenience, I’m not sure why they expected me to care about the elephant people. Show a city getting destroyed or something.
I can go on and on, but this is just a few hours worth of EW. The story makes no fricking sense and it’s a mishmash of bullshit that they’re making up as they go, like Kingdom Hearts.
The game has terrible netcode and every class that isn’t Ninja puts me to sleep. It’s an overrated game, the people who champion it have played like 3 games total in their entire life

The Scions are hands down one of the worst parties I've ever had to deal with in a Final Fantasy game. And the over-reliance on them generally takes me out of the experience whenever I play it.

The end game is fun. I botted all the classes 90 so can't speak on leveling and I never read a single line of dialogue or watched a single cutscene so I can't speak on that either. Raiding is fun though.

Nothing in the game seems worthwile doing in the long term. Either the rewards aren't very great, or the content isn't very fulfilling, or the bad UI is exhausting, or all of the above.
I kid you not, the thing that made me the most happy about 6.4 is that you can use your wing-accessoires during combat, even though it still doesn't work in instances.
They are taking baby-steps with the variety of the content, and its really frustrating if you play the game at a patch by patch basis.

Rewards being not worth it is definitely one of the worst things on that list. It's a real problem. They are so hell-bent on keeping you from progressing or making any real strides above other players they actually hamper your rewards for your efforts. On the other hand everyone is a notorious cheater using third party plugins and this applies to even PvP and Ultimate content.
This game honestly deserves to die with how complacent the community at large is and how lazy the developers have become.

Bots, fricking bots, they sell all kinds of things, they have smart floors at which they stop undercutting to make a profit so you can't do the usual 'just buy out the bot's stock/just undercut the bot' meme you get told on the forums. They are absolutely horrendous to fight against for high volume stuff like crafted gear beacause they undercut every couple of seconds depending on the bot. Your only recourse is to literally stay at the marketboard and check every minute to see if you've been undercut.

Here's an example of a bot free company, reported like fifty million times with evidence and everything, Square didn't care. Note all the level 22 alts. There is always one or more perpetually logged on, idling at the retainer bell, checking prices and undercutting.

bthd allows you to place objects in areas they would otherwise not allow you to. it removes the need to fuss around with setting/placing/picking up objects to fudge around with heights and just place it where you want.

The game would have alot of players if it also respect players who don't want to follow the story. Post story content is the biggest filter for people who just want to play the game and all its mechanics . For a game that people say that it respects the player's time, it sure doesn't respect people who aren't into the story. I think the Game needs an enhanced interactive glossary which you can access while being in a cutscene.
Personally i love the story, but it needs to also appeal to players who want to rush to the raids and pvp and check the story later. It's a toughie to balance but if more thought is put into it I'm sure it can be done

There really needs to be more content to do as a guild, and more replayable content. 95% of content in this game is. "Go do the fight, get the shiny prize, never touch that content again" The remaining 5% is gathering, crafting, the gold saucer and maybe pvp.
I also think the game just becomes boring as shit once you get good at it. Dungeons are hallways with 3 bosses and filler mobs more akin to riding a themepark ride. and it feels like every fight gets stale as shit the moment you know the mechanics, and its just a matter of hoping one of the other 7 people dont frick up.
Half the player base doesnt even want to play the game, they just wanna gpose and suck each other off in limsa.

welcome to MMOs, "group activities" are always mob grinding, boss grinding, or RP
I think mob grinding is fine if theres like reward. rare drops or something maybe? Farming mobs in ragnarok online for 0.01% drop cards that can potentially change the way you play your character if you got one was hella fun for me.
Oh I almost forgot. The combat in this game has become absolutely braindead.
Every class does more or less the same damage, with the only distinction not even mattering because you usually have 2 melee one ranged 1 caster anyway.
The skills are uninspired.
a 123 combo, an aoe combo, two buffs, two ogcd's and a resource meter.
The gear for each class is boring cookie cutter shit that literally just increases your numbers a bit. There's nothing exciting about getting new gear in this game aside from glamour.
Healers get to use 3 whole buttons on average for combat.
Everything is so uniformly bland about combat. It bores the hell out of me.
