The issue with PS5 isn't its sales, it's the scalping.
It's that 90% of all PS5s sold in physical retail as well as over Amazon end up in China
That's why you literally see almost no old PS5 games chart on famitsu or Amazon, even when a big shipment is of hardware units is sold.
The basic issue is that Japan being in close proximity to China means that the demand for region-free PS5s is ALWAYS going to eclipse the number of PS5s that could even be shipped to Japan.

Moreover, short of getting some units that 'fell off a truck', the best way to get a region-unlocked PS5 is to buy it from Japanese scalpers. That's the whole point, the scalping issue is why PS5 games in Japan almost never chart after their first month, whereas Switch games do.
Plus, Japanese PS5s are much cheaper than Chinese ones thanks to the weak yen
