Game has potential but the constant talking over gameplay was annoying.
Though it's scripted enough that I have to wonder if it's something they added for the trailers or if the game has that level of dynamic dialogue. It looks like a pretty linear game so it might be possible.

This looks like a miserable game. I didn’t play Getting Over It but am surprised to see this was made by the same guy who made that. I always thought Getting Over It looked pretty cool and creative unlike this, which seems to either be 3D QWOP for Redditors or 3D QWOP that hates Redditors.
I can’t tell if I’m too jaded to find this funny or just too tried of irony and cynicism to find it funny. It’s lighting up both of those parts of my brain.
I think you're just being overly cynical, at least based on what we've actually seen of the game. It's one trailer, there's no marketing, no developer interviews, nothing of that sort. It's just 3 minutes of a fat manchild in a onesie waddling around the countryside like he has shit in his pants. The dialogue wasn't even particularly pointed, just "haha video games right?" Give Bennet Foddy time to make an ass of himself publicly before you judge.
I actually found the writing funny, although its probably the accents. Something about the british accent makes jokes funnier.

I dunno man, I think the point of a trailer is to get people interested in your game, and I’m just not interested in playing it based on what I just saw. I’d rather play a game that’s encouraging me to earnestly enjoy something instead of watching a fat, developmentally-arrested guy in a onesie flail around on screen. Just ain’t for me. Seems a little mean-spirited for my tastes.
If it's not appealing to you, that's fine. But I don't think the trailer is particularly mean-spirted. Also, we're all immediately assuming the guy is autistic or moronic based on his appearance. Maybe the game plays it completely straight, and he just happened to wake up one morning in the middle of nowhere in his pajamas.

I don’t think this game is for me because I don’t need to hear the message it seems to want to convey.

I don’t doubt that’s the point of the game at all, especially since they included a shot of him skateboarding in the trailer, but something about the presentation just doesn’t sit well with me.
It’s very ugly. The animations are ugly. I’m certain that’s all by design, but still. It’s doing this weird mix of irony and earnestness that just doesn’t seem to be something I want to spend my free time on. It’s as if it’s aping Xavier: Renegade Angel’s art style or something but with much lower quality animations.
Well, it's also a super indie game. It's a game made by 3 dudes published by Devolver Digital. It's going to look cheap. Getting Over It was all cobbled together assets too.
Sure, but those facial animations were really off-putting to me all the same. I’d really rather spend my money on a game that had more time and effort put into it.
Getting Over It was just a more refined version of older flash games. There wasn't an original bone in its body.
