These things are always being revised and updated. This time, it became a gotcha during a poorly implemented release so clearer messaging was obviously needed if people don’t even understand what Required means on a game they buy.
This was the problem with how Helldivers went about it, and really the issue is that Sony is really anal about how people sign up for PSN accounts to begin with. In some countries you need to verify your account with a form of actual government-issued identification good luck keeping that secure with Sony, and other countries you can only sign up for PSN through a PS4 or PS5 console, which is somehow even more moronic than the Real ID shit.

First of all, multiplayer is for gays and you don't need to use it to play the real game. Second of all, a lot of games have launchers or need accounts, that's nothing crazy. It's outlined beforehand and you don't need to do it unless you like playing multiplayer. That's the best implementation you can hope for other than no implementation at all.
