They abandoned instanced based dungeon design in favor of the open world meme, except this dev team doesn't have the resources to truly make an open world game so what we got with NGS was a half-assed middle ground that does neither open world nor instance based content well.
As soon as you boot the game up you can tell how many corners they had to cut because so much of their manpower went into making open world shit. Instanced content and monster designs took the biggest hits in quality.
The combat and class design are a huge downgrade from PSO2. PSO2 was like DMC-lite with RPG elements. NGS is basically gacha combat. Nothing but braindead button mashing.
But the #1 most damaging thing to the PSO franchise is the Japanese playerbase. Japanese whales do not give a single frick about the content or gameplay in NGS. They literally only care about playing dress up with their characters, and this is the reason why NGS profits have remained steady for the entirety of its life. Sega has no incentive to make a good game because Japanese trannies keep giving them shit loads of money regardless of how bad they frick up.

While world still has instanced areas instead of open world meme, each of them are still a decently sized areas and at least a couple of the areas directly connect to the starting hub. I feel like if world had pso2's (not ngs) char creator, it'd be that much more dressup bait thus more profitable if they 'did it right' so to speak.

I think dolls are actually cool as frick some of the best designs out of the series its just too bad that they didn't get many interesting variations like darkers did. Darkers had all kinds of different variations like bug/aquatic/bird/toy and Dolls just have like, mostly humanoid shit and then some outliers like the weird dragon leg c**ts from kavaris. Everything else being basically reskins of old pso2 but not nearly as interesting is pretty lame though.

My favorite part, how was Nagoshi, the guy who insulted the puyo puyo fanbase, got Sega to put so many eggs into pushing Sakura wars, it fricked over NGS's budget, so not only did they did they get stuck with HMZK again as director because of short staffing choices, they then also lost a shit ton of planned funds that was suppose to go to NGS's release, and when everything went to shit they were just told to figure it out, after getting screwed over hard at the most pivotal point for them.

I can't really source a theory as to why they went with HMZK again. Look at everything that Sega had to walk back in order to get us where we are now.
They said they were done making Kiryu games for Yakuza, and then they made Yakuza Gaiden, another Kiryu game, on top of making Kiryu a prominent feature of Yakuza 8. They also said they had no plans to give us Ishin and they quickly walked that back after all that with NGS and Sakura wars, PLUS Judgment, the series to serve as back up for Yakuza also getting shut down essentially thanks to the Yagami talent agency Drama.
Atlas does something that literally nobody asked for and remakes Persona 3, and evidently restructures the risky venture of Project Fantasy, the game that what suppose break Atlas away into something completely new and detached from SMT, into Metaphor which is literally P5 again but with a fantasy rpg coat of paint.
And lastly, After so many years, Sega is caving into "Fan pressure" and finally making things like another Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, insert forgotten Sega IP game here"
All this is back pedaling is abit too excessive for one game's revival flopping, isn't it? Well if your Sega, and you've pretty much boasted that Pso2 before all this was basically a pillar of profit to the company, bring in so much cash, you feel you can take a cut from their funds and expect to make it all back. This would be your exact response to almost everything back firing on you for doing this.
But if you want to only focus on just NGS, this is the thing. Nothing in the game is literally unsalvageable or broken, and anyone who actually plays the game can tell you that much. The problem is that it's all undercooked and underdeveloped, moving at a snail's pace to advance and get better, but NGS at it's core is just a reboot of Pso2 that hasn't really taken off yet, and that's because there's no budget to really start pushing out content to be developed.

I completely disagree with this, the game is flawed to it's core. The gameplay is samey between every class, the world is empty and lack depth, the graphics are a mess where some textures are so low res that they look like modern pokemon ones. They'd need a ARR and burn most if not everything to make the game good.

If there was any bigger budget being put into the game than what;s being put into it now, we'd be well past were we are right now. on all fronts. But when you piece together that Sega as a whole company has spent 3 years trying to recoup losses from the mistake they did with choosing Sakura wars over NGS, it makes more accurate sense, why the drip feed on content is there, why classes only get brushed up but never seriously built on, etc and so forth. Ranger isn't a counter class, it's never been a counter class. All they did was give you a way to get your grenade back faster by perfect dodging WA, but that's no where near enough to claim that Ranger revolves around countering and only countering, especially not now.

It's a game so bad it sounds like hyperbole for me to talk about it ITT. They quite literally have had you running loops around the same small map for around 3 years. You literally kill the same monsters but entirely colored a different color, with a higher level, with the same four attacks. It has pay to win power boosts for your armor, the game is based around interacting with whales.
It honest to god feels like an experiment to see what a business can get away with for a skinnerbox or a game designed by an AI.
I forgot to mention the dungeons/quests are untextured/virtual reality square cube rooms or cut out parts of the open world areas with copy pasted enemies, sometimes in rows. It sounds like I'm lying to make it sound bad. Most of the game outside of the small open world sections looks like dev environments.

Ive been playing for about 4 months now and I started off in the pso2g /vg/ thread after joining one of their groups I got invited to their alliance discord and to my surprise there were literally 10+ women in voice chat I didnt think women visited Ganker let alone play a game with them and no this wasnt freakazoid troonys these were genuine women but weeeew boi they were crazy when I joined and tried to ask for help with weapon upgrade tips they wouldnt stop chattering about some kind of ingame drama and how they hated certain characters but holy moly was this one of my most bizarre gaming experiences of my life
anyway the moral of the story is if you do decide to play Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis be weary if you decide to join ship 2 and join the Ganker groups because you will be surrounded by mentally ill toxic women
I think it's impossible to do end game content for this game because it's an action game mmo, once you know the enemy it's a walk in the park even alone, I'm no mmo player but I'm sure you need roles, attributes, specific skills, gear and a balanced group to get the mmo experience and there's nothing like that in ngs for years now.
End game content is possible, it's just gotta be structured beyond a singular boss fight. They need to make gauntlets and provide more unique objectives to end game quests on top of having super bosses too.
While Leciel Exploration was somewhat right direction stuffed in 7 to 8 minute quest and most of it's features rotates daily, I think current playerbase is too dumb to properly play this type of content unless you go in with full party.
That's what the techter was for. Every group worth a shit had one, and I loved that because I was the techter. I smacked c**ts with my wand and casted shifta/deband/zanverse and that allowed everyone else to play their favourite classes. You really only need pure dps and support dps classes in this kind of game.
They really don't though, because it's not prevalent enough that these are their roles.
Like if you want Techter to be the buffer, it needs more buffs to apply beyond shift and demand, give techies a buff that grants attack speed to allies as well or stuff like that.
Same with Ranger, even though it's already got to much as is, you want ranger to be the support/ debuff class, give it stuff like jellen shot again, and the the ability to inflict aliments on enemies.

There's at least one actively developed project right now but yeah, EoS would probably push it harder and make it fly under the radar more after eventual launch.
There were some posts last year in the modding discord's private server channel, then those people made a separate public discord (linked in that channel I'm pretty sure) and another separate private discord for the actual development. It's really a ways off still to be clear. Lot of stuff has to be manually remade, like every single quest and free field exploration, each possible layout of them, object and enemy spawns in them, etc. Tons of stuff crashes the client or server, lot of features not even begun to be implemented yet.
Combat is okay. The real issue is the actual monsters and the content itself for me. The only real thing to optimize gear for are ARKS records which is a leaderboard from doing the most boring quests imaginable or snowboarding. Bosses still dont match up with Ep5 and 6 bosses in speed and encounter design.
I also dont get why games like NGS and even that granblue game avoid having any focus on dungeon crawling aspects. This is what made the older pso games better and even some parts of pso2 like challenge mode and endless. NGS just doesnt have exciting or mechanically interesting content at all besides Leciel

They abandoned instanced based dungeon design in favor of the open world meme, except this dev team doesn't have the resources to truly make an open world game so what we got with NGS was a half-assed middle ground that does neither open world nor instance based content well.
As soon as you boot the game up you can tell how many corners they had to cut because so much of their manpower went into making open world shit. Instanced content and monster designs took the biggest hits in quality.
The combat and class design are a huge downgrade from PSO2. PSO2 was like DMC-lite with RPG elements. NGS is basically gacha combat. Nothing but braindead button mashing.
But the #1 most damaging thing to the PSO franchise is the Japanese playerbase. Japanese whales do not give a single frick about the content or gameplay in NGS. They literally only care about playing dress up with their characters, and this is the reason why NGS profits have remained steady for the entirety of its life. I played monster hunter world recently, and it kind of felt like what ngs was aiming for in some ways but failed to execute horribly.
monhun was directly inspired by PSO and more specifically the devs going "that dragon boss was sick, what if you fought shit like that the whole game instead of grinding boomas for 200 hours, and what if the grind was getting individual parts to make a weapon so you get a little rush of dopamine instead of hoping for that 1/2000 drop rate?" and then everything else developed out from there
While world still has instanced areas instead of open world meme, each of them are still a decently sized areas and at least a couple of the areas directly connect to the starting hub. I feel like if world had pso2's (not ngs) char creator, it'd be that much more dressup bait thus more profitable if they 'did it right' so to speak.

I think dolls are actually cool as frick some of the best designs out of the series its just too bad that they didn't get many interesting variations like darkers did. I can't really source a theory as to why they went with HMZK again. Look at everything that Sega had to walk back in order to get us where we are now.
They said they were done making Kiryu games for Yakuza, and then they made Yakuza Gaiden, another Kiryu game, on top of making Kiryu a prominent feature of Yakuza 8. They also said they had no plans to give us Ishin and they quickly walked that back after all that with NGS and Sakura wars, PLUS Judgment, the series to serve as back up for Yakuza also getting shut down essentially thanks to the Yagami talent agency Drama.
Atlas does something that literally nobody asked for and remakes Persona 3, and evidently restructures the risky venture of Project Fantasy, the game that what suppose break Atlas away into something completely new and detached from SMT, into Metaphor which is literally P5 again but with a fantasy rpg coat of paint.

Well if your Sega, and you've pretty much boasted that Pso2 before all this was basically a pillar of profit to the company, bring in so much cash, you feel you can take a cut from their funds and expect to make it all back. But if you want to only focus on just NGS, this is the thing. Nothing in the game is literally unsalvageable or broken, and anyone who actually plays the game can tell you that much. I completely disagree with this, the game is flawed to it's core. The gameplay is samey between every class, the world is empty and lack depth, the graphics are a mess where some textures are so low res that they look like modern pokemon ones. They'd need a ARR and burn most if not everything to make the game good.

Ranger isn't a counter class, it's never been a counter class. All they did was give you a way to get your grenade back faster by perfect dodging WA, but that's no where near enough to claim that Ranger revolves around countering and only countering, especially not now.
Not sure, the grenade is just too good when countering because Iframes, PP refill and damage.

Like I said, it's not a counter class. Even with out grenade you still have dozens of other options to work with that do not involve countering.

Ive been playing for about 4 months now and I started off in the pso2g /vg/ thread after joining one of their groups I got invited to their alliance discord and to my surprise there were literally 10+ women in voice chat I didnt think women visited Ganker let alone play a game with them and no this wasnt freakazoid troonys these were genuine women but weeeew boi they were crazy when I joined and tried to ask for help with weapon upgrade tips they wouldnt stop chattering about some kind of ingame drama and how they hated certain characters but holy moly was this one of my most bizarre gaming experiences of my life
anyway the moral of the story is if you do decide to play Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis be weary if you decide to join ship 2 and join the Ganker groups because you will be surrounded by mentally ill toxic women

I think it's impossible to do end game content for this game because it's an action game mmo, once you know the enemy it's a walk in the park even alone, I'm no mmo player but I'm sure you need roles, attributes, specific skills, gear and a balanced group to get the mmo experience and there's nothing like that in ngs for years now.
End game content is possible, it's just gotta be structured beyond a singular boss fight. They need to make gauntlets and provide more unique objectives to end game quests on top of having super bosses too.
While Leciel Exploration was somewhat right direction stuffed in 7 to 8 minute quest and most of it's features rotates daily, I think current playerbase is too dumb to properly play this type of content unless you go in with full party.

Like if you want Techter to be the buffer, it needs more buffs to apply beyond shift and demand, give techies a buff that grants attack speed to allies as well or stuff like that.
Same with Ranger, even though it's already got to much as is, you want ranger to be the support/ debuff class, give it stuff like jellen shot again, and the the ability to inflict aliments on enemies.

people just refuse to admit that PSO is peak and keep trying to reinvent the wheel. PSO is great, then universe and the ds game kinda frick it up, then the portable games go back to being more and more like PSO over time until PSP2 is pretty great again, then PSO2 goes back to not being PSO again

There's at least one actively developed project right now but yeah, EoS would probably push it harder and make it fly under the radar more after eventual launch.

There were some posts last year in the modding discord's private server channel, then those people made a separate public discord (linked in that channel I'm pretty sure) and another separate private discord for the actual development. It's really a ways off still to be clear. Lot of stuff has to be manually remade, like every single quest and free field exploration, each possible layout of them, object and enemy spawns in them, etc. Tons of stuff crashes the client or server, lot of features not even begun to be implemented yet.

Combat is okay. The real issue is the actual monsters and the content itself for me. The only real thing to optimize gear for are ARKS records which is a leaderboard from doing the most boring quests imaginable or snowboarding. Bosses still dont match up with Ep5 and 6 bosses in speed and encounter design.
I also dont get why games like NGS and even that granblue game avoid having any focus on dungeon crawling aspects. This is what made the older pso games better and even some parts of pso2 like challenge mode and endless. NGS just doesnt have exciting or mechanically interesting content at all besides Leciel
