yeah sometimes like shit tho, eg. input lag because sony cant code

The sole fact you can use the second analog in MH for camera control makes it infinitely better than the PSP.

So that's why Dissidia 012 runs so bad on my vita?

      Anonymous

this, the input lag is awful. vita is okay for vita games but the backward compatibility needs work.

      Anonymous

nah input lag is because of the bilinear filtering on by default

So that's why Dissidia 012 runs so bad on my vita?

it does run some games like dissidia and djmax portable 3 like shit tho, but those are literally the only two ones ive seen run badly

Soul is a completely meaningless term used because the typical Ganker poster is incapable of actually stating a sincere opinion backed up by an explanation.

If you want to play PSP and PS1 games and a bunch of emulators then get a PSP.
If you want a console that does the exact same shit but with a second stick you wont use for anything and with a bunch of chud visual novels then vita is perfect for you

      Anonymous

being able to remap the second stick in psp games is an awesome feature, you shouldn't play it down. being able to use both sticks in ps1 games is also a major upgrade over the psp

PSP games were designed to be played with one stick. You shouldnt be playing PS1 games that need a second stick on a handheld.

The PS Vita is unironically better than the Switch in terms of software and hardware quality, not to mention that I use my almost daily for 7 years now and don't have any kind of drift.
If Sony execs weren't retarded this could be the definitive portable console.

Deck, vita is shit and has no games and you can just play PSP games on a Deck.

Duckstation can't even render Japanese PS1 fonts properly. Either way I have my Linux machine if I wanted to play games--the point of handhelds has always been the console exclusives and Valve doesn't have that. As it goes even the Playdate offers a better handheld experience than the Deck does.
I hope Switch homebrew takes off after its successor is announced.

It's one thing to adopt a culture because you have none of your own. It's quite another acting like some elevated gay who seems to have forgotten what a PS1 game on OG hardware actually looks like. I mean, if fonts is your thing, buy a Mac.

It's a legitimate problem in Japanese games. Text is unreadable and overflows from the text boxes.

bro there is more than 1 PS1 emulator around...

And none of them are usable, lol
I'm pointing out there's still a use case for original hardware and official in-company emulation of it (using integrated chips from the consoles). Everything after the 4th gen is a mess.

This bro is really going to act like Sonys official ps1 emulator that is a decade out of date is better.

I know you're very stupid, but yes. It uses original PSP hardware which in turn runs most of the PS1's machine code natively. The front-end side is handled by the Vita and unlike the PSP it doesn't allow you to load different versions of POPs for better/worse compatibility across certain titles, but the emulator itself reaches a very stable compromise that runs pretty much every game properly converted into a package right out of the box.
You're not going to execute native PS1 code on any x86/64 or ARM machine. Which leads to the myriads of bugs PS1 emulators are plagued with. Partly because the effort is so poorly documented, even as of now, but still.

PSP and PS1 use the same CPU architecture but dynamic recompilation is still needed to run them since the memory and IO maps are completely different. JIT is always going to be less accurate than an LLE interpreter regardless of the matching CPU arch, but that's the only practical way to emulate PS1 games on such weak hardware.

                Anonymous

Keep in mind the PS1's CPU isn't just the R3000 processor, but its on-board coprocessors that make it such a pain in the ass to emulate (esp. the geometry transformation engine, which is vital for accurate rendering).
Emulating IO isn't as taxing, and with how little overall memory the console had you're only really worrying about accurate calls to the GPU. JIT isn't the best but, again, you're working with a key native component, that really helps accuracy by a huge degree. Which is why the emulator on the PSP, and by consequence on the Vita, is so good.
I wonder how much better the world of emulation would be if you could mount some knockoff hardware on your own PC.

                >This bro is really going to act like Sonys official ps1 emulator that is a decade out of date is better.

                Yes.

                Anonymous

By "IO maps" I'm talking about all those coprocessors you're talking about, GTE & GPU. There's much more to a console than just its CPU. Fortunately the PSP is pretty kitted out for efficient emulation of those too with components like the VFPU.
Overall the other anon is right that convention emulators for the PS1 are able to be much more accurate but POPS, with its careful tradeoffs and platform-specific optimizations, isn't bad or anything.

I know BeetleHW is by far as good as emulation can theoretically get but going that far feels like a waste. And I really haven't run into any emulator issues on my Vita after years of use. Sony's own internal PS1 emulator even gets praise constantly across the really autistic places.

                >He unironically thinks emulating on a device that has an outdated emulator that is also missing buttons and a bunch feature is better.

Okay, fine. It's better than shitstation tho

Can't fit the deck into a pocket, but the vita can fit.
The steam deck is as portable as a laptop, in which case, why not just get a laptop at that point?

I'm a hardware fetishist. For me it's the PSP with that insane proprietary Minidisk format of theirs. From a hardware point of view, the level of technical precision in a handheld unit sporting a godamn miniature CD drive is fucking magic. The Vita is great, and dual stick wins, but the PSP is one odd rooster of a unit and that wins it for me.

I for one find it hilarious that sony slapped an optical drive on a handheld just in time for falling flash memory prices to make it completely pointless
They made the same mistake Nintendo did with the 64DD and to a lesser extent the FDS

Certainly. It was a madcap caper. But that's what I liked about it. It was batshit stupid from start to finish. But the end result was a textbook perfect study in miniaturisation.

          >THEN WHY DON'T YOU GO BUY THING THAT IS EVEN LESS PSP THAN VITA
I have Vita and it's great handheld, but when it comes to game library it is tragic

It sucks that Vita didn't even get the obvious ports. For as good as GTA LCS and VCS were, they missed the ball by not porting the PS2 trilogy to Vita. Hell, even homebrew developers were able to do that in the end.

it feels like everyone but inde devs gave up on Vita after a year or two

3 frames if you use the bilinear filter and 1 if you don't
to actually turn off bilinear filtering you have to go to the official emulator's settings in adrenaline, turn it off and then either suspend or go back to home after launching a game because for unholy reasons the setting's always on by default when the emulator loads
DO NOT USE any of the other filters bundled with adrenaline, they make the problem even worse
I tested this autistically across a wide array of games, no proofs tho

I have both. Vita is basically superior on a technical level and it still looks amazing, especially the OLED model.
Also, the Vita's library is nowhere near as bad as people say it is. I watched a bit of gameplay footage of every game on the platform, and ended up with over 200gb of games downloaded. However, I did discover something no-one ever mentions - the performance for some of these games is absolute dogshit. I know consolefags are retards who will eat any old slop, but honestly, some of this shit runs at like 10fps. It is fucking unbearable. You run a game and you just have to hope it's one that runs tolerably. The Jak + Daxter collection was literally 10fps straight from the beginning, but Samurai Warriors 4 runs smooth as butter even with all the enemies on the screen. It's a total crapshoot.
