Are you saying that these abbreviations come from the companies? I always assumed they were made by fans in order to talk to other fans online without typing out the entire console name every time.
GCN actually came from Nintendo, the others are just things people say.

It's in the companies' interest to establish a problem-free acronym otherwise they get fricking Disney up their ass about National Geographic Channel. If it's printed enough in marketing materials and magazines it'll catch on.
Even as someone born in 1996, I remember seeing PSX top describe Playstation games and GCN for the Gamecube contemporaneously.
No one called the Xbox XB1 because it was the only one at the time. Hell, it wasn't even until the Xbox One came out that people called the OG Xbox just that because that is objectively a shit name and can get people confused. Shit thread.
>Im about to log into the Gamecube Network hang on
NUSF
But GCN is canon
>XB1
Not retro

GCN actually came from Nintendo, the others are just things people say.

>xbox
they couldn't use NGC for copyright reasons iirc

the acronyms were started usually by mags/sites and they could be liable for the wrong use of them, I suppose
It's because NGC was already used for the Neo-Geo Color.
No they was NGP and NGPC

National Geographic is not 100% owned by Disney 27% is still owned by The NatGeo Society proper.
idk i just remember GCN being in video game magazines.
GCN was definitely from Nintendo. There's a Melee trophy of it and everything.
GCN is official, just like PSX.
>PSX
That only refers to the dev console or the special ps2, most people say ps or psone, dw though, people make that mistake sometimes
Frick off, PSX was used globally before that console you are referring to was even a thing.
playstation ten?

How did they think they could top the PS9?
Where does PSX even come from?
