I expected a Goldenrod City sized metropolis to explore. I remember being so disappointed I walked along the walls hoping to atleast see the edges of some buildings, but it was nothing but flowers
Everyone gets that games have limiting factors like how many actors can be displayed at once or in the case of Pokemon, storage space being limited.
However at some point your brain will simply deny the suspension of disbelief and see that the pokemon houses don't even have bedrooms or that the "bustling capital of the northern hemisphere" is just like 15 houses with 50 NPCs
When you compare it to Cerulean, it's not that bad. There is a house right in the middle of the road that everyone must walk through.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??
Pokemon was actually just shit, not limited
case in point, your mom didnt even have her own bedroom until gen FIVE. Not ebnough space on platinum cart to give her a bedroom? really?
Limited colors so they had to actually give a shit about making an aesthetically pleasing palette.
I don't think RSE look bad necessarily but it wasn't the upgrade I think a lot of people were expecting. I think 4th gen had a nice art style though with a clever mix of 3D and 2D. 5th gen had an interesting art style by going balls deep with the "2D sprites in 3D environments" thing but I don't think it's aged as well.
I know that limited technology means we have to just fill in the blanks ourselves and towns in Kanto/Johto/etc aren't actually filled with 10 residents with 4 houses that have 0 bedrooms but the way the newer games actually put in the effort to make the towns seem more populated and the residents using newer technology always makes me think in my head that places like Kanto are third world countries.
Even worse when other regions get mentioned in the newer games as if we're supposed to believe that they're as modern as Paldea or Galar or something.
still better than the sinners city of babylon
That's why it's called Pallet TOWN, b***h
>>>/vp/
which flyover shithole are you from?
bustling even
>Play 3rd gen as a kid.
>See Ever Grande City on the map.
>oh man that place sounds super cool
>Finally get there.
>It's just a Pokemon Center
Dawn sexo
It's a city for pokemon, that's why the encounter rate is so high in the cave.
>he felt for the tourist trap

I wish games would try to consider the fact that game scale =/= game lore
Games like Elden Ring suffer a lot for it
Elder Scrolls games too

I never questioned shit like that as a kid, dunno if it didn't bother me or if just stupid.
What the heck do they eat?
Tangela
magikarp
For me, it's Fuchsia City.
what was with gen 1 and making towns so obnoxious to navigate
makes them appear bigger
makes you waste more time so they appear bigger
funny it's 2023 and people are still unaware of this common map design practice, even on modern vidya
Fire that city planner
He's escaped into the Safari Zone

That's what's called flexing on the plebs.
I regret missing out on playing gen 2 as a kid.
Frick me.
How would (You) design (You)'re town, anons?
>Capital of the northern continent in a massive, sprawling world
>23 houses
yeah it should be as big as a real city, I want to take 10 hours to walk the whole thing!!!!!!
shut up you fake gamer homosexuals.
>fake gamer homosexuals

>zoomer can't into representations and thinks everything should be lifesize
like pottery
>pokemon towns have too many buildings, we need to solve this by shoving the pokemart inside the pokemon centre for some reason
It's called Pallet Town because of pallets
It's called Pallet Town because pokemon are your PALs and they LET you catch them
it's called pallet town because the people there don't have pals
I am your pal
