Rain Code Ch.3

Just finished Ch.3

I can't believe the game got even worse.
stupid case, stupid motivation, stupid investigation and aftermath.
Peacekeeper? more like Team Rocket at this point.
Shinigami-chan even acknowledged that Mystery Labyrinth is fricking pointless. fricking waste of time.
At least we're finally, FINALLY going to the main plot now? It's too fricking late. this plot point should've happened as early as the end of Ch.1. frick all the filler shit like bombing and Nail Man.

Everything is so boring I started skipping dialogues during Ch.3. This never happened to me with other detective game. This might actually be THE worst detective game I've ever played. Even the glorified VN RTS like Process of Elimination is still far better than this garbage.

Sheesh, SURELY this can't get any worse. right?

Look, it's Chapter 3 in a Kodaka game, you should've known it was going to be terrible.
Chapter 4's the best in the game, though you'll still likely hate it.

How did she survive her trip to Kanai? she's way too dumb and her power isn't very practical.

She survived because of her power, obviously. Similar to Yasuhiro surviving due to being the Ultimate Clairvoyant.
The only way to kill her would be something sudden, like a bullet to the head.

I just got upto the secret lab.
        How many chapters are there?

There're 6 chapters. Chapter 0's technically Chapter 1 by conventional means. So one more after the lab.

Just finished the game. Not interesting enough for me to play the DLCs. The setting is pretty good though, and I appreciate the efforts taken to maintain some form of narrative cohesion between all the cases, as well as establish decent motives for all the characters in the cases that matter (so 4 and 5)

      at least Halara is interesting
actually capable, useful power, and she likes cats
what's xer gender anyway? do they reveal it in ch4/5?

        Anonymous

Nope, Halara and all the other master detectives fade away after they've had their turn assisting you in the investigation.

Labyrinth having 0 (zero (nihil)) effect on real world EXCEPT for killing the culprit is such a dumb mechanics.
It's just a liability since now you have to explain the awkward situation of culprit suddenly dying to everyone.
Oh and you still have to recap the case to everyone in real world. What a useless ability.

It'd be so much better if Shinigami power works differently, like... create a metaphysical courtroom and FORCE EVERYONE AROUND THE USER to participate in it, like Reality Marble in Fate series. That way we can have everyone argue and defend their position and make the process of solving the case much more interesting.... just like every other detective games out there.

Courtroom ain't gonna work when Yomi can override anything.

          >Yomi can override anything.
Just put a Shinigami spell/curse on everyone so the verdict of the court must be followed through, then.
Well, they did that already anyway. 3 times. They always pussied out each time we solved the case.

Shut the frick up, don't put more salt on the wounds. We all wished the game was better and the investigators more interesting. Halara was the worst investigator and I hope NONE of them appear in the sequal unless they are a corpse.

          Anonymous

gameplay-wise Halara is the worst because you have to investigate (click) the same things twice (present time & past)

At first I though that Icardi was actually behind the blocked door and after the mystery labyrinth his corpse will just fall out which reveals to everyone that he's the culprit. That would have been a good way for the labyrinth to be useful in escaping the situation.

The setting is interesting, but it wasted on the story that doesn't even start until much later into the game. Gameplay and gimmicks are very bad. If you want to play a good detective game, then you should play something else.

I don't think you should form your opinion on the game from a guy who went into it already despising it for not being DR4 and makes threads to keep people updated on how much he hates it

I think the story was great. Characters are all solid, twists are well written as usual. If you like DR you def have to play it. And its not entirely unrelated from DR either but unless you want spoilers just play it.

This game is made for literal babies. The cases are so easy to solve that you always know the culprits before going into the labyrinth and then the biggest challenge is staying awake through that slog.

      Anonymous

      >The cases are so easy to solve that you always know the culprits before going into the labyrinth
because they designed the labyrinths so we can't get any new information about the case once we're inside, since it's created from our mind. As a result, they must design the case to be solvable once we've finished the investigation (obtained all Solution Keys).

That anon isn't being truthful. The mysteries themselves are actually pretty well done and going into the Labyrinth you are almost always stumped. Yes the labyrinths hold your hands and spell put the killer for you, but besides the first case, every single time I went into the labyrinth without the case figured out. This is also the only murder mystery game I've played that goes out of its way to give you red herring clues to misdirect you. I highly doubt this anon knew which clues to disregard and ignore prior to the labyrinth

I'm not lying. I had every culprit figured out except for the copycat before I entered the labyrinth. I just paused the game after the investigation ended and made a theory from the solution keys given. It's not that hard to put 1 and 1 together and you don't even need the whole howdunnit because the possible culprits are so limited.

Reading what most people thought regarding their guesses.
Chapter 1: Almost nobody guessed there being two killers. Most either assumed it was the priest or nun. I don't think theres anyone who guessed the worshiper was a second killer.
Chapter 2: So many people were misled by the watergun or eye droppers. I also saw a lot thinking Karen killed herself. Almost nobody guessed all the girls were secretly bffs and working together.
Chapter 3: The killer itself was easy to figure out in this case, but I don't think anyone had his escape method figured out. The umbrella was such a misdirection.
Chapter 4: A few figured out the killer prior, but no one figured out how he got into the room. So many people thought it was related to the spectral ability and was misled hard in this case.
Chapter 5: Absolutely no one expected a zombie twist and that pink blood would get an explanation.

Ch.1 figured out, except the copycat
            Ch.2 figured out perfectly
Ch.3 figured out, except the motive, which was really basic and stupid
            Ch.4

I'll just write my deduction so far to leave a mark of my genius/moronation here
I re-read all the solutions keys and damn I still haven't figured it out completely. Truly a difficult case.

So, there are 3 prime questions
            1. Who killed Prof.?
            2. How did the killer enter and escape the room?
            3. Who stabbed Yakou?

            Suspects:
            1. Yomi
            2. Vivia
            3. Yakou

            Cont.

            Deduction:
            1. Yomi was away w/ Makoto, so he can’t kill Prof. He was restrained by tbhhiko when we found Yakou, so he also wasn’t the stabber.

            2. Yakou is the prime suspect of the killer as he has no alibi.
-He was luring the peacekeepers while we investigated the first time. He could've gone to the Prof. room to kill him.
-Yakou hid censored photo of a guy with a hot female researcher. The guy’s Yakou, he used to work there and knew the room's password order.
-Yakou could've brute force his way through the Poison room since the poison takes 30 minutes to be lethal, he had the time to kill Professor. The Prof. is deaf, so he wouldn't notice the sound of the door opening slowly. and maybe the Prof. was facing the other way while using the intercom?
            -F initial = Furio?
-It said Fink never issued a warning, so the culprit used F knife and Fink’s name to blame the killing on him.
-there’s a room to hide in the decontamination. He hid there after he killed the professor, waiting for Yuma to pass and then exit the room
-He stabbed himself to mask the actual reason he’s in critical state, the poison.
-I can’t figure out his motive. Is he the “Anon” who exchanged message with the Prof. that told him he’s gonna betray Amaterasu?

            3. Vivia
            - “Ghost can’t interact” Key is there to prove his innocence, so he isn’t the killer
-He could be Yakou’s accomplice, the hooded guy who shut down the electricity and encountered Yuma after Yakou got stabbed
-He showed up with Halara. Were they always together? If they were, then it invalidates my entire argument.
-I can’t figure out his motive. Simply helpign Yakou?

            Conclusion:

            1. Yakou = Killed Prof.
            2. Vivia = Yakou’s accomplice

Alright, that’s it for my deduction. How's that?
I’ll leave and find out tomorrow after I finished the Maze.

            we'll see tomorrow

I'm not lying. I had every culprit figured out except for the copycat before I entered the labyrinth. There was only one red herring in the game, the water gun. The rest, like the eydroppers, straight up tell you they weren't used so you can immediately disregard them and even if you still want to believe, they give you evidence that using them wasn't possible.

Like i'm doing the lab right now and i make mental notes of what the monsters in the dungeon can ask me or what the criminal could do.
Like how robot ads say it can withstand an elephant when it's actually 100kg, i feel like they'll blind side me by saying it can hold a person and other things that end up being over 100kg and i have to bring up how a person can sit on it, and nobody could tell. I figured out that the only possible way for Yakou to get in was to get help from Vivia, or that he rode the robot, but the latter didn't make sense to me because I thought he was already killed by then.

I initially assumed that killer wasn't afraid of dying. So he went through gas and made it through electricity trap with Fubuki's ability. But I thought he hid inside the robot.

i thought he was behind the robot. that's what i'd do. it's not going to rotate fast enough that he can't stay behind the camera, and then he wouldn't have to die with the robot when a mistake was made.

People's main problem with 0 is that the labyrinth is long and very boring. But I agree, the case itself isn't bad, at the point you discover the last body and before the investigation, the case does seem "what the frick" impossible.
Even case 3 was fun, the mystery was silly but running around a city with a feeling of urgency and trying to investigate at the same time felt fresh. My favorite case by far was number two, reminded me a lot of Danganronpa, although before this thread I'd never heard anyone say it was hard to figure out.

Old man has alibi and the gun being in the wrong hand immediately leaves you with only 2 suspects, who were both in on it anyway but the game decided to only put one of them in the labyrinth.

No, that's the low point. It's a pretty bad low point, too, you didn't miss anything.

4's reliance on (half explained) magic (rewind) rubbed me the wrong way.

That's your prerogative, but most people like those cases that couldn't exist in any other universe (like 2-5). You have all the rules in advance and know who in-universe knows those rules.

All the rules of the rewind? Like including death? Time anything is already a bag of worms.

Yes? If someone dies, and Fubuki rewinds, they aren't dead anymore. Like how she undoes the bombs exploding if Yuma is dumb. Yakou knows this and that's all he cares about, he doesn't care that he dies in other timelines (ala SOMA), whether or not they're "aborted", since he's already on a suicide mission.

Yakou knows the rewind ability revives the 'dead'?

Honestly the worst part of the game is how disconnected the game feels from the actual fricking central plot point until you're almost done playing it.

It's definitely a filler chapter but not that bad.

Spike Chunsoft recently put out a customer review, if you want to complain to them.
