Only played Hollow Knight and Bloodstained.
HK>BS
BS is a decent Igavania but it doesn't have as much soul as the DS games. It's still one of the things I'd wish I'd have more of it, instead of less.
But the same goes for HK.
It's got great art and cool lore. Remember to donate to the church if you play it so you can fast travel between shrines. Doing the base game without the post update content should take you around 10 to 12 hours for both ending a and b. You do need to play ng + to get the true perfect ending though.
I got the perfect ending in a single run. You can see all of them with this single requirements:
1. Get to Perpetvua's grave before fighting Esdras to save him.
2. Get Esdras's key and find the true face below the golden tree at the library.
3. Beat Isidora and Sierpes, get Mea Culpa's true heart.
4. Beat Crisanta with the true heart equiped and free her from the Great Wills.
There you stop. Now you can. Get all endings.
Bad end: ignore Crisanta and go amd beat Escribar. You get the bad ending as your body turns into ash trying to reach the throne
Normal ending: upgrade the thorn Deogracias gave you to it's full sin. You need to do a lot for that with the little rosary that "eats" your guilt everytime you die. Also destroy the statues that absolve your sins.
Best Ending: go to Crisanta and get her Stigma. With the thorn of true sin from the normal ending you get the best ending.
its the jankiest of the 3, not bad, just very heavy in terms of movement if you come from hollow knight, i find it really nice, amazing song, art and cool lore, but i know people who couldnt get pass the 2nd boss because apparently morons find it hard
get it if you can if you enjoy the other two
definitely play the first if you wanna try the 2nd because the story is nice aswell.
HK > blasphemous 1 and 2 > bloodstained
Didn't really like bloodstained. The combat felt dated in comparison. It felt like playing a 20 years old game running on top of a skin
Wasn't that what people wanted to play, though? I found the gameplay exactly at the point where it should be. To me it was the level design that left much to desire.
There really is no feeling like going fast in a Metroid game. So glad that Dread wound up as fricking kino as it did. Really hope that they're already working on a sequel.
Bloodstained is my favorite of these three by a significant margin, Hollow Knight is great but I got tired out by it well before reaching the ending and the only thing I really like about Blasphemous is the aesthetic.
My favorite newer Metroidvanias are Dread, Ori 2 and Steamworld Dig 2 though. A lot of recent examples in the genre are starting to borrow more and more from the Souls series and while those games are cool they're just not my thing. I like crazy movement upgrades and platforming and getting weapons that make me feel overpowered, which is something Bloodstained nailed even though the story, bosses and graphics left something to be desired.
You don't need to, its easy enough to pick up on the story without it. It does inform the sequel though and it's not terribly long.
What's interesting about Dig 1 is how it takes a really simplistic mobile game/flash game format and evolves it into a proper adventure game, it has way more depth and much more intrigue than I ever expected. But that made it a fun game to pick away at on my 3DS while traveling, not something really worth sitting down in front of your computer or TV to play if you just want to get to the sequel.
the second one is more of a metroidvania than the first since it has more backtracking and unlocks but still doesn't have the traditional RPG stuff like leveling, stats and gear.
Hollow Knight > Bloodstained > Blasphemous
Hollow Knight is easily the best of the three and is a phenomena for a reason. Great world design, setting, atmosphere, exploration, and combat content. Full of charm. It does have kind of a slow start but when it gets going it never stops. The biggest flaw is the lack of interesting mobility tools compared to Super Metroid, hopefully Silksong will fix that.
Bloodstained doesn't quite hit the peak of IGAvania but I'd say it's mostly competent. My #1 problem is that it's aesthetically kinda ugly. Going from high-grade spritework to cheap looking 2.5D models was a huge downgrade. The enemy variety also suffers as a result, lots of reskins in the end-game. However in almost every other regard it feels like an IGAvania, in terms of controls and mechanics. I like that they took the biggest flaw of SotN (inverted castle) and made it a cool ability (invert), great way to salvage a seemingly bad idea.
I only played the demo for Blasphemous but everything I've heard about the full game makes me think the devs didn't fix any of its issues, namely the jank controls and annoying platforming. I might play the sequel eventually.
Blasphemous has gotten 4~ full sized free DLC since the demo as well as mountains of updates and fixes. The movement and controls are far better, it's practically a different game from when it launched. 10~ hours to beat 50~ hours to 100%.
My big gripe is the quality remains consistent throughout, which seems like a non-issue but it means there are no high points. From the very first screen to the very last screen the quality never dips or elevates.
Bloosdtaines is the only one that feels like an igavania, that is what I want.
blasphemous feels like shit to play, don't like the movement it made me not finish the game
Blasphemous was hard in the start easy as frick after the first boss
Hollow knight was gradually getting harder. Would have been perfect but getting the final ending involves completing boss rush against every boss in the game in one shot and just attempting it takes 30 to 50 minutes depending on skill and if you speed run, which is just actually impossible unless you commit a lot of time and practice into this.
Bloodstain is easy and only gets easier if you invest time into it.
I say hk > blasphemous = bloodstained
I adored AoS but I hated the changes they made in DoS, the fricking soul grinding and crafting system. Frick that shit. Would I enjoy Bloodstained or is it just more bullshit like that?
Blasphemous 1 currently holds the award for having the most interesting idea for a dungeon in a metroidvania and is yet to be beaten. HK still goated though.
Only Grimm and I consider it an overall worse experience even if that's the best fight is the entire game. Everything else is just bloat and objectively terrible because they tried to pander to the "This is the Dark Souls of video games" homosexuals.
The vanilla game is a perfectly contained experience to 100%
I've played most of the games in this genre and Hollow Knight is so far beyond the rest that anyone saying it's worse than anything else has to be in complete denial. And I stayed away from HK for years due to all the fans on here and IRL.
Hollow Knight is pretty much the GOAT of it's genre.
nobody knows because the homosexual ass devs think it's le epic based to be 100% tight lipped about the game or release date
i might even pirate the shit just to spite the homosexuals. it was cute like 2 years ago, now it's obnoxious
all 3 are shit
first one is fedoralord pretend souls pretend castlevania
second one is peak reddit game, as usual aussies are incapable of any gamedev and should be shot if they ever attempt it
third one is a meh castlevania wannabe that's uglier than your face
Besides Guacamelee and its shit combat, what metroidvanias have unarmed martial arts? I'm not kidding when I say the majority of my weapon choices in Bloodstained and Portrait of Ruin relied entirely on whether or not the special attack was the flying knee.
Oh shit I completely forgot about Valdis Story when typing this post out. Reina could casually delete the three secret endgame bosses in under a minute when speccing her into agility martial arts.
The thing is her kicks don't break guard until you actually level that up, and unlike other characters her kicks come out really fast in addition to her rising combo(attack then jump with anyone, for reina this is a somersault) so you can just stunlock the hell out of everyone.
Add to that damage scaling for aerial attacks, the majority of her air spells giving her additional height, one of her ground spells being a doppelganger for extra damage and her extra mode having damage scaling based on the combo counter and Reina's the easiest of the four. I do agree Wyatt's stance system was neat but Valdis story wasn't the best game to make use of it.
Is Blasphemous just an acquired taste? Its art design and atmosphere was great but even two hours in combat and movement felt pretty sluggish and not very satisfying. I've genuinely yet to play a Souls game though and feel like I'm maybe missing something here.
I finished and somewhat enjoyed HK, but not enough to get the true ending or whatever, I finished Bloodstained but didn't quite enjoy it as much as I expected, I dropped Blasphemous because it was a plain and simple a shitty game.
Blasphemous is like an RPG character who put all their stats into Charisma and absolutely nothign else. Seriously the game looks and sounds amazing but the actual gameplay is total DOGSHIT
You should play it. It's one of the absolute bests. Brutally difficult without a guide though. If anything the game is mostly an effort in seeing just how much you can complete without a guide (I guarantee you'll need one a couple times)
I find it weird no one talks about Team Ladybug's other games beyond Lodoss and Luna Nights.
Yes the persona game was very mediocre but the konosuba game and pharaoh rebirth+ were excellent.

No. The one you see is like pretty short section the whole game. >What's the appeal?
Fun combat, engaging story, decent amount of content to play. Probably one of the best side scrolling games i have ever play
Haven't played Blasphemous, but Hollow Knight is the best indie game I've ever played. Bloodstained is just Order of Ecclesia 2 which isn't bad, but compared to HK it's nothing special.
I was let down as it wasn’t SotN, but otherwise good with one of the best villains in gaming.
I just played Hollow Knight, wasn’t as good as I remembered.
HK is the overall better game because it's the most well rounded, even though the gameplay is unnecessarily cluttered as frick. However Blasphemous is the absolute best in terms of art direction, lore and creativity.
Bloodstained is pretty much IGA's greatest hits in one game. I hate the nail in Hollow Knight and the lack of new weapons hurt it, not really satisfying. Blasphemous outside of the art is quite boring.
I don't get Hollow Knight I don't know why it's held up as a landmark game from what I played. Maybe it ends really well and that's why people love it but I just was not compelled to get there at all since the game dragged so much.
I have played a fair bit of HK and Bloodstained but haven't finished either. I dropped Blasphemous in 2 hours. I enjoyed Touhou Luna Nights much more than all of the above.
I played the top 2 and didn't get very far in either of them before I quit. The last game is by the looks of it utter shit, but I could be wrong.

Never played Blasphemous
Hollow Knight is pretty sweet
Bloodstained could be cool, but literally every time I've played it over the years I end up with a game breaking bug that forces me to restart. It's also horribly derivative of SotN and AoS and has a bunch of random kickstarter shit spread all over it which ruins the visual aesthetic.
So I guess it goes: >Hollow Knight >Bloodstained = Blasphemous
>blaspheMID
>mid knight
>midstained

You can buy you shouldn't, 1 is also decent but worse than 2 by far
Only one I've played is Bloodstained and I liked it enough to 100% the run I did of it.
Only other Castlevania I've played is Aria of Sorrow.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps > Hollow Knight > Ori and the Blind Forest > Blasphemous > Bloodstained

Reina unarmed feels disingenuous. I mean, being able to block and the starting equip and it's honestly no different than equipping a weapon.
Wyatt unarmed is way more interesting, with the 4 stance system. Wyatt in general feels more fun than Reina to me.
The thing is her kicks don't break guard until you actually level that up, and unlike other characters her kicks come out really fast in addition to her rising combo(attack then jump with anyone, for reina this is a somersault) so you can just stunlock the hell out of everyone.

You have no idea of how expensive software development can get.
