You can't get the frenzied flame without melina present before burning the tree. Mogh's chamber in the sewers is closed until you kill forgot, and after you kill him you are trapped at the front of the erdtree until you rest in the bonfire so melina can give you the medallion.

They can be killed later but at the start of the game if you’re playing blind you’ll just get murdered by the ghosts. The point is that the game doesn’t explicitly tell you where you to go and if you go the wrong way you will encounter enemies too strong for a regular player in order to funnel you back towards the intended path. The great thing about these games is that you can still git gud and sequence break.

He is completely trivialized by summoning and I for one don't think summoning should be mandatory. If you want to beat him without summoning and at level ~10 (without grinding all other zones) that'll be a tall order even if you are familiar with the mechanics, much less in a first blind playthrough.

Marika has consistently been depicted as a massive b***h who had no great love for any of her children or husbands and discarded them as need be. Godwyn's death at the hands of black knives was probably part of her plan since she worked with Ranni and the theft of the death shard from Maliketh was with her approval.
I wouldn't be surprised if she specifically selected Godwyn as the target because as the most beloved and benevolent demigod, with power to back it up, he'd be the most likely to successfully damage control the shattering and put a stop to the general fighting.

Miquella was sent to the DLC but I doubt he has an ending for himself. Ranni won because she was the luckiest I guess.

You can't get the frenzied flame without melina present before burning the tree. Mogh's chamber in the sewers is closed until you kill forgot, and after you kill him you are trapped at the front of the erdtree until you rest in the bonfire so melina can give you the medallion.

They can be killed later but at the start of the game if you’re playing blind you’ll just get murdered by the ghosts. The point is that the game doesn’t explicitly tell you where you to go and if you go the wrong way you will encounter enemies too strong for a regular player in order to funnel you back towards the intended path. The great thing about these games is that you can still git gud and sequence break.

He's only a "bad" boss in that he's designed to teach you about tons of the games mechanics at once. They want you to see how bosses have more than one phase, how they'll sometimes have weird delayed attacks and overly long combos, they want you to summon to see how they work.
He has a specific purpose, and he serves it well.
He is completely trivialized by summoning and I for one don't think summoning should be mandatory. If you want to beat him without summoning and at level ~10 (without grinding all other zones) that'll be a tall order even if you are familiar with the mechanics, much less in a first blind playthrough.

I killed Margit precisely through R1 and Dodging, and it took me all over 30 seconds because I chewed through all of Limgrave, the Weeping Peninsula, and a good chunk of Caelid before realising "I should be going the other way"

You know the one thing I really hate about ER's story in particular? It's not that it's cut and stitched 5 minutes before release, or how heavily fans fellate the vagueness of the former point, or that all the quests are just an arbitrary set of progression flags.
It's that despite always framing (you) as a nobody, nothing but a player insert, "a tarnished of no renown", there isn't actually an opportunity to play a clueless murderhobo, or oppose any of the super cool OCs (who totally aren't protected NPCs we're not Bethesda it's different).
There should be a mechanical consequence to not just blindly go along with everybody's requests. Anything of note, and not a dying "Zanzibart, forgive me" and a stub of an aborted questline.
