, didn't play the rest.
Forge mode alone carries 3 above and beyond the rest of the series. I recall Reach did some minor, but very important, tweaks and it fricked up forge mode big time. I think it was how things connected to each other.
3, 2, 1, Reach, ODST
Reasoning: >Halo 3
had forge, slightly better graphics, and the mechanics from 2 was refined to a polish. >Halo 2
Dual wield, some of the most memorable maps, mechanics from one were refined and new ones were introduced. Sword was pretty poggers, almost all the new weapons added were great and I couldn't imagine modern halo without them. >Halo 1
Classic, captivating story, Multiplayer on computer was pretty cool with the flamethrower, Got a lot of Blood Gultch and Hangem High memories, I liked how the grenades were mini-nukes in that one. >Reach
Good story, fricking hated the DMR/DRM (w/e the frick that stupid paintball gun was called). I liked the takedowns and I thought the armor abilities were fricking cancer. >ODST
I liked the campaign and the aesthetics in terms of a "neo-noir" film with the music. Fricking hated the ending where you had to guide the alien ballsack. The Horde multiplayer against waves of npcs was fun and a nice introduction but it didn't have regular multiplayer either so... RIP ODST.
While Halo 3 was "technically" the best of the trilogy it started to feel feature bloated and the story wasn't as good as 2. Worse maps too. It's also when Halo fatigue started to kick in.
I never got why they didn't slap at least 3 new maps for the ODSTs. I assume they do the same simulation training as the Spartans do in the Proving Grounds and if they don't it kinda explains why they were losing the war.
nta but i did and it was fricking overrated
halo 1 lan and online was infinitely more fun
2gays are OBSESSED with the logic of "well it was fun on xbox live, therefore its the best game"
total brain rot.
Unpopular opinion but all halo games are pure genric garbage shooter, people who praise it only because of the time they spend with their friends and anything can be fun with friends
That and their story was Marathon but repackaged and "in the thick of it" rather than the systemshock "shit got fricked while you're asleep, figure it out." You got to wake up while shit was going down and take part of it.
I'll be honest I stopped caring about the story about halfway through halo 2, that being said there were some pretty cool moments but my interest died completely when they made me play the Arbiter. I also didn't like the Retcons they made to 1 as they went along the way.
They are still better than cod
Tho not than half life or doom or any pc shooter, but that's fine, if everything was made in the same image or same formula fps game would be even worse as a genre
3 and 2 are the greatest games ever made. Reach is really good. 4 is underrated and has the second best story behind 2. 5 has a shit campaign but the best multiplayer. Infinite is basically the same as 5. ODST is overrated dogshit.
>4 is underrated and has the second best story
wtf are you smoking? They just copied weapons from the Covenant and the Setinals, recolored them, and then sold it as "What if the Setinals, the most boring enemy to fight in the game had legs so you couldn't just ignore them and walk pas them?
>4 is underrated and has the second best story
hahahahaha >5 has the best multiplayer
HAHAHAH
>4 is underrated and has the second best story
wtf are you smoking? They just copied weapons from the Covenant and the Setinals, recolored them, and then sold it as "What if the Setinals, the most boring enemy to fight in the game had legs so you couldn't just ignore them and walk pas them?
3 was a downgrade from 2 in almost every way: worse campaign, worse narrative, worse music, worse MP maps and core gameplay, etc. Only thing it does better is not being as poorly balanced with it's guns and having forge.
>And has the second best story behind 2
Disagree. 4 has a lot of good narrative ideas but almost none of the execution lands. Ironically it's the opposite issue for 5, the story there is conceptually terrible but I actually think Chief and Cortana's actual presence and acting in it work better then in 4. If you took Halo 4 and Chief/Cortana were written like they were in 5 where cheif's not totally in denial and instead of being depressed and having tantrums, Cortana instead gradually becomes more and more corrupt and her protectiveness and headstrong personality becomes controlling and violent without realizing how far gone she is and you have to take her down, it'd actually work great.
Then 5 could have had the Didact trying to use the Guardians to enforce galactic peace instead, which fits his whole personality better anyways.
>HAHAHAH
He's arguably right. 5's core gameplay feels smooth and tight as frick, the maps were a return to H2 style verticality, before the TU every gun was worth using, etc. Plus, 5's forge is better then 3's, Reach, 4's, and H2A's combined. The only problem with it was the art style and no native BTB maps.
1 is better than the rest in terms of atmosphere, it's a more immersive experience and has a much greater sense of mystery, isolation, and all sorts of tense moments. Replaying it evokes the same feelings even though I know what's going to happen, that's how I know it's really something special.
The sequels don't really land the same way, but the actual gameplay experience of definitely improved over time.
I agree except that ODST does a lonely atmosphere even better.
>Only thing it does better is not being as poorly balanced with it's guns and having forge
It's a crime to trivialize these. Those and customs puts it an entire tier higher than 2
The thing is, Halo 3's weapon balance still sucks, it's just not as obscenely terrible as in 2.
I think 2's tighter movement, gunplay, and more vertical maps really do a lot to make it more fun then 3, you just have to accept that nothing outside the BR/Carbine, Plasma pistol, and power weapons matter. 3 has everything else be marginally more viable but you're still putting yourself at a massive handicap by bothering to use them and everything else is so much less fun IMO.
>CE: good >2: good >3: good >3 ODST: my favourite >Reach: good >4: it's in my top 5 worst games I have ever played >5: you couldn't even pay me to play this trash, I haven't seen a single playthrough of the shit game and people I know who played it said it was shit >Shitfinite: same as above but literally no one I know would play this trash
I reckon for me its ODST>2>CE>3>Reach but it doesn't really matter because I can play any of those games and have fun, even in levels like The Library or Gravemind. I will never touch 4 ever again.
5's campaign is about as bad as 4's, but the multiplayer for both it and infinite are great. Their forge is also almost an actual dev tool.
>Or Gravemind
Gravemind is one of Halo 2's best missions, though? It's long but as long as you're not playing on legendary (and if you are that's more H2 legendary's fault then Gravemind specifically) it's never super tedious or difficult, and it's got consistently awesome visuals, theming, in mission storytelling, music, etc.
Having recently played singleplayer after finishing Marathon, Reach > 3 > 1 > 2 > ODST > 4.
Reach gameplay is good, the story works really well with the smaller scale, hidden lore is good.
3's gameplay is okay but too many brutes, main story half good half stupid gung-ho nonsense. GOAT terminal lore.
1's story is great, obviously because it's the first entry. Half the game is an unbearable slog.
2's worldbuilding is half-okay, half cartoony. Story's rushed and full of plot holes. There's something really boring about the gameplay that made me glad Arbiter can skip 90% of it with stealth.
ODST is garbage. Gameplay is okay since it's just Halo 3, but characters are cartoony exaggerations, terminals are absolute trash and the only interesting plot point (engineers) was lifted from Marathon.
4 is garbage both story and gameplay wise.
1 is better than the rest in terms of atmosphere, it's a more immersive experience and has a much greater sense of mystery, isolation, and all sorts of tense moments. Replaying it evokes the same feelings even though I know what's going to happen, that's how I know it's really something special.

1 and 2 are the best.
Yeah, the maps weren't good in 3 but the amount of fun I had doing moronic stuff in forge and grifball was well worth the price.
I never got why they didn't slap at least 3 new maps for the ODSTs. I assume they do the same simulation training as the Spartans do in the Proving Grounds and if they don't it kinda explains why they were losing the war.
Halo 1 and 2 were good. 3 was also good. The rest of the Bungie halo games were okay but not as good. 343 sucks.

That's a good reason of why it was called "Mario party, but with guns"
Still tons of fun with the homies

disregarded all of this
Why would you play a series with middling gameplay at best for the multiplayer
looking at all other shooters that existed at the time, halo was above average at the very least not middling.
finally a respectable franchise review.
