>Are they worth playing?
The nu-DEmakes? No.
Play the 1990s to mid-00s originals. In release order. Starting with THE 1996 original RE1. Always both campaigns.
REmake 1 (2002) is the very OG remake, the one that started it all, and the only properly made remake thus far. However, it was made for the veteran fans of the original trilogy, changing and expanding things cunningly so that said experienced players would get surprised. Skip the OG, and you will also miss on these mindgames the devs try to play on you.
RE1-3 are easy to find and play. Duckstation runs the PS1 OGs just great, the PC ports + fan patches are also a-OK alternative, and the GC versions of 2-3 are arguably the best out of the box variants.
You can pretty much forget any RE game released post-2005.
At best you could finish the saga with RE5, if you can get a friend to co-op it with, that is.
>As in: not "Resident Evil".
What is Resident Evil to you, because "Resident Evil" changes literally every goddamn game. If people like you had their way, every game past RE3 or CV would be stricken from reality, and you halfwits can't even decide if RE3 isn't RE or not. By many definitions about complaints of the series getting too action-focused, even RE2 should be disqualified if I wanted to explicitly be disingenuous.
Consoom or don't consoom, none of us give a damn what you do with your time and money, but your own view of this series is probably already fricked up from the word "go".
>Wasn't that a localization thing?
No. RE was originally only dubbed in English. Everything you see from 1 to 6 is the OG intended manners. OG RE2 Leon is not some cuck b***h boy without any training, and OG RE4 Leon is a jokes cracking ladies man. But alas, that's "too 00s" and "problematic" for the GenZ Californians.
>dubbed
Yes, but they were written in japanese then localized by a third party since companies don't actually translate their own stuff most of the time, especially not back then
>have you been living under a rock or smth?
Nope. I'm just questioning the bizarre hypocricy when it comes to #3's de-make. Why do the other two get a free pass? And how did Crapcum manage to flip the tables on 4's, which was THE most not-wanted remake of all time, and proven to be trash day 1 ?

It's because of zoomers. If they had actually played through 2, they would have known the remake was a Black person travesty than re3make. Capcom literally showed off screenshots of their initial re2make which was supposed to be like re1make before scrapping it completely so they could pander to modern audiences. That's literally their reason why the remakes play like they do

I wouldn't call it that bizarre at all. I know 2 cut shit, their plant guys are lazy, the birds, spiders, marshalling yard are gone, but they at least attempted to care for the RPD part. The layout's similar, but different, and Mr. X provides a slightly interesting difference between the two.
4 Remake basically just cut all the charm out of the characters, but the story beats are still roughly there, and it's still an actiony shooter like it always was. It plays slightly differently too I guess.
3 though, 3's a straight slap in the face. Literally everything is wrong with it. Nemesis basically isn't in it except for some cutscenes, the whole game before the tram is cut, Carlos and Jill both act completely different, Brad's death is turned into something hella generic, the middle of the game is missing, and the end is just recycled assets. The hospital got turned into a little wave defense segment and a few other rooms.
Then you finish the 2.5 hour game (on a slow playthrough) and there isn't even a mercenaries mode. Say what you will, but 2 kept Hunk and Tofu, then added extra shit afterwards.
The OGs always beat the remakes, no questions, but the 3 remake is a tier below basically everything. The hate is merited.
Sorry for the essay post.
>RE2 and 4 were remade with love.
Like hell they were. They're exactly what all the fans were afraid of. Exactly the same shit as the Silent Hill: Homocoming or Downpoor way back in the day.
Yes. Play re2make. I would suggest 7 if that was available but if only remakes then go with that.
Re1make is the best but isn't something Capcom will ever come back to so be aware of that
Weirdly enough, I think it's pretty easy to just start with RE1. It can be kinda frustrating if you start as Chris (I did), but with Jill you've got more than enough tools for even a new player to do aight. Only the boss fights are kinda rough, and that just comes with the tank control territory.
1-4 OG are all worth your time, 5's okay I guess, 6 is trash, 7's okay for one playthrough, same with 8.
0 and CV are there for when you run out of other tank games to play. Like once you've finished the other RE's, SH, DC, and go "Damn I need more tanking", hit those up.
I’ll never get 1, 7&8. First half in the creepy house, amazing. Than they toss you into some industrial setting and the game starts to suck. Yet they keep doing it, every game.
I'll admit the little tunnel zone with the hunters in 1 sucks, but I liked it other than that. 8's industry zone was probably the coolest part too.
I'll give you that it's kinda sad they get more linear with time. The routing and mild puzzle elements just kinda fall away after the first half of 1, and never really return after the early RPD.
Basically I agree the middles always are the weakest, sewers blow ass, but the lab ends are usually cool enough for me to stick around.
Well, what was your favorite pal? If you pick the castle I know you're just a horndog. The swamp part kinda sucked. The doll part's the biggest reason not to bother replaying. So what else is there? The village opening? That uhhhh fight in the caves with the hammer guy?
The lab level was the best part, though the boss was admittedly pretty stupid.
Never replayed so maybe that’s the difference. Swamp was meh, and I disliked the junkyard. Loved the rest from the village, castle, house, to the FPS end. Castle was definitely the best though, even without the breasts.

I'll admit I don't remember as much of the castle as I should, though if you like it without being a giantess simp, I can respect that.
The house though? It's basically a cutscene!
>If we don't throw this shit in, the player will get bored and quit the game!
That is unironically what japanese devs think. It's a problem everywhere in their side of the industry.
Play the originals, emulation + a CRT filter is suggested if you just want to tag them in as they were originally intended. The remakes aren't bad, especially the first one, but they are significantly different experiences overall, and RE3R may as well be a 100% new game with the loose synopsis. The only bad games in the main series are 0 if you can't get a handle on the shitty item management, Code Veronica if the difficulty is too much for you, and 6 pretty much shitting the bed in campaign design overall, you should just treat the remakes like whole new experiences though. RE4R doesn't invalidate RE4 with HD mod.
it's definitely a new flavor, but most of the game is seriously not designed with third person in mind thanks to later parts of the game being so fricking cramped, and if RE8 wasn't your cup of tea the first time, it sure as frick won't suddenly be because of a camera perspective now since it doesn't unfrick Beneviento or the like.
>RE1R
Probably the best of all the remakes, it took what made the original good and fixed almost all the jankyness and bad storytelling of the first.
Its peobably the quintessential RE game, and a must play for any gamer in my eyes >RE2R
Ganker shits hard on it but Its actually pretty fun. Level design and visuals are extremely good, Mr. X is introduced and done perfectly here, and the story changes they do make from the OG are interesting.
I wouldn't say its as good as anything in the original trilogy, but as a modern remake its phenomenal and the one I'd reccomend if you dont like tank controls. >RE3R
Don't even bother, it changes so much from the original RE3 that you can't even compare them, one of the worst examples being how Nemesis is just a cutscene setpiece and occasional boss now. Even as a standalone game it's both extremely short, and spends 90% of it's run being a straight hallway simulator. >RE4R
Its decent, sticks much closer to the original ther other remakes IMO, especially in the story department. If you like RE4 and want a version with modern visuals its ok I guess. If you haven't played either I'd just reccomend original RE4 and see if you want more.
TL;DR:
RE1R is the best choice easily and sticks closest to the originals
RE2R is a good modernization and also a great pick
RE3R is a complete waste of time, play the original instead
RE4R I wouldnt reccomend until you played the original 4 first.
better than the originals
REmake 1 is excellent
RE2make is pretty damn good
RE3make is kinda crap
RE4make I haven't played but to my understanding it's largely faithful
The only good remake is of the 1st game. The rest are dogshit.
Worse than originals.
>Are they worth playing?
The nu-DEmakes? No.

Don't listen to the purist autismos. All the remakes besides 3 are good
Shut up troony. DEmake 3 is EXACTLY THE SAME SHIT as 2 and 4.
As in: not "Resident Evil".
Pipe down, nerd
Shut up redditor. Go back.
>muh hecking
You are below subhuman, i'm surprised you're able to even play RE at all
moron
>As in: not "Resident Evil".
What is Resident Evil to you, because "Resident Evil" changes literally every goddamn game. Consoom or don't consoom, none of us give a damn what you do with your time and money, but your own view of this series is probably already fricked up from the word "go".
They all cut fricktons of content, censor all the fun and attitude away, and have handholdy yet clunky as frick gameplay to boot. They're trash.
>fun and attitude
Wasn't that a localization thing?
It's not really censorship if it wasn't there in the first place
>Wasn't that a localization thing?
No. RE was originally only dubbed in English. Everything you see from 1 to 6 is the OG intended manners. OG RE2 Leon is not some cuck b***h boy without any training, and OG RE4 Leon is a jokes cracking ladies man. But alas, that's "too 00s" and "problematic" for the GenZ Californians.

Half-correct. They were translated by Western Japs foremost. Long before social media and yankee identity politics trash existed.
Not only that, but most of the OG RE cast followed established Nip character tropes.
>I just don't see the point in them,
Excuse me while I enjoy my unlimited ammo weapons, 4th Survivor and Tofu gamemodes.
Skip RE3. Resident Evil 1 is the quintessential RE experience, RE2 and 4 are God tier.
>Skip RE3
it's the best PS1 RE game, Black person.
None of the RE-engine games are "Resident Evil", little nugay. I was already speedrunning the classics before (You) were even born.
>speedrunning
You're pathetic
Nope, little waste of cum.
(You) just have never played a single GOOD video game with both replay value AND tangible rewards for mastering the game.
And the RE-engine slop is still wet shit.
But i have?
I just don't see the point in them, and think speedrunning is fricking gay.
Speed-runs to unlock things? I'd rather pay to win!
I was talking about REmake 3.
oh ... well that crap's exactly the same shit as 2 and 4's demakes, so why start splitting hairs all the sudden?
Bro even people who've only played the remakes hate 3, have you been living under a rock or smth?
>have you been living under a rock or smth?
Nope. I'm just questioning the bizarre hypocricy when it comes to #3's de-make. Why do the other two get a free pass? And how did Crapcum manage to flip the tables on 4's, which was THE most not-wanted remake of all time, and proven to be trash day 1 ?

REmake 3 was a complete after thought. RE2 and 4 were remade with love.
>RE2 and 4 were remade with love.
Like hell they were. They're exactly what all the fans were afraid of. Exactly the same shit as the Silent Hill: Homocoming or Downpoor way back in the day.
Emulate the original 1, 2 and 3. It's easy and they're all good. Then play the remake of 1. If you still want more then play 0.
If you still want even MORE then lower your expectations and play 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Yes. Play re2make. I would suggest 7 if that was available but if only remakes then go with that.

10 bucks a game, yea. 40 a game, no.

Ive started 1 in 3 different systems and i still haven't finished it, idk why.
this month i played re 1 hd and a few days ago also finished resi 2 (remake)
highly recommended
soon i will start resi 3!
is re8 worth playing through again with the third person mode? I just finished my 100 gorillionth speedrun of RE1 and want to freshen things up a bit.
