What's the actual point of these videos? Everyone with functioning brain knows that video games are always simplified compared to real world concepts they imitate. Nobody sane expects tank game to require knowledge in actual tank controls or fighter jet having just 6 seconds worth of ammo and two missiles.
People looking to be validated for liking a thing. Basically, people looking for an Appeal form Authority to justify that this thing that they like is really good and authentic because an expert guy who's presumably not even into the thing from an outside perspective says that it's good.
Basically "I'm better for liking this thing that even real people say is good despite not being into". I supposed there's a level of that old, Nerd Insecurity thing going on of wanting their justify their media consumption habits.
"React" is low effort and easy as shit content format
The "real x-ist" or "expert whatever" reacts is different than "normal" react content. Basic react content, streamers, those tv show/film reacts, basically has the same appeal as old Let's Plays. People looking to vicariously relive their first experience of playing/watching a thing by watching other people do it, and with streamers in particular, with an added parasocial aspect to it.
>People looking to be validated for liking a thing. Basically, people looking for an Appeal form Authority
That makes a lot of sense, really.
Kinda sad that it’s so widespread, that people feel compelled to compare the things they like to what’s mainstream, but you do see it all the time in comments. "This blows movie soundtracks out of the water", why are you even comparing them? Why does a video game soundtrack have to be compared to a movie score or whatever? If it was chiptune would that make it "unworthy" just because movies don’t do that?
It's internalized deprecation. By consuming and engaging in these sorts of content, whether or not they realize it or not, they're basically admitting to the fact that whatever "thing" that's being reacted to (music, scenes, whatever from games/anime/shows) are of a "lesser" form of content, something that needs to be propped up by having its authenticity or quality substantiated by a third party.
>People looking to be validated for liking a thing.
That's also the reason why redditors eant video games to be considered art, journos want to pretend video game journalism is real journalism and moronic youtubers get so offended at the VGAs telling devs to frick off(to where they belong) and letting celebs do marketing.
>moronic youtubers get so offended at the VGAs telling devs to frick off(to where they belong) and letting celebs do marketing.
If anything, this is a stigma of Geoff's own personal insecurity about the industry. He wants the Industry, the VGAs, his show, his career, to be validated by having all of these actually famous people be on his show, no matter how tangentially related they are. It has to be a massive spectacle, he has to invite everyone, it has to be bigger and bigger, every year. Helps that his parents are IMAX executives, which probably makes it easier for him to book all these big names. Though I do wonder if he's even aware of how inviting all of these celebs only to have them mostly sit in for 2 hours and watch ads for fricking Honkai Star Rail looks.
It's the exact fricking brand of insecurity that fuels this whole cottage industry of "expert reacts to my niche nerd thing" videos. one that other game awards, the golden joysticks, DICE, BAFTAs, etc lack, probably because they're mostly run by people in the industry instead of adjacent to it.
No fricking way he has all those celebrities actually sit in for the whole show right?
Like, I really fricking doubt Matthew McConaughey is just sitting there for the whole show and just drinking all those ads in. They must just be there to do their little bit and leave.
>REAL cop reacts to GTA >"Oh- Ahaha, okay. What this guy did right here is known as carjacking. Basically you go up to a car with someone inside, you force them out, and drive off. It's illegal."
>REAL gunsmith reacts to guns from Gungame 2 - The Gunning >proceeds to tell you information that anybody who has a basic understanding of guns already knows >20 minutes long
Rofl Even that would probably suck though, it just be some ex-convict saying all that planning and intel fathering is unrealistic and you usually just shoot the guy as he leaves his house in a drive by or something
>REAL music producer react to video game music >gets in slapfights in the comments with people suggesting him to watch or play the trailers/games the music came from in his own time, by saying he only cares about music
I actually watched a bunch of those videos and every time they have nothing but praise for the music.
It's funny because Ganker constantly insists that video games are better because "real artists" are all psychotic israeli demonic Black folk performing ritual bloodmagic on the masses. But then videos like this come out and they turn out to be very welcoming and open to the ideas of the music.
Ganker really is the pretentious, distrustful, arrogant hivemind it accuses everyone else of being.
I think it's interesting to hear the thoughts about someone who is far more familiar with something as complex as music from a theoretical standpoint
average person just goes "mmm yes sounds good"
I removed 3 or so vids like that from my algorithm and they haven't come back since. What was odd was the song I listened to that triggered them all was Children of the Omnissiah

That's the point, Anon. not everyone is a gun nut or /k/gay. These videos are targeted at normalgays.
You don't need to be a gungay to know the kind of information the "experts" say in those videos

Well the medicine related ones are always interesting imho
>REAL woman reacts to Games Done Quick
LETS GOOOO
Is this genre 100% or do there exists hidden gems?
I don’t think a "hidden gem" is possible in a genre that’s as low-effort-by-definition as react videos.
ex hitman reacts to Hitman
Rofl
Even that would probably suck though, it just be some ex-convict saying all that planning and intel fathering is unrealistic and you usually just shoot the guy as he leaves his house in a drive by or something
you seem to have misunderstood
>PETA reacts to monster hunter
>REAL music producer react to video game music
>gets in slapfights in the comments with people suggesting him to watch or play the trailers/games the music came from in his own time, by saying he only cares about music
This recommended to me on the front page. I looked at the comments expecting to see somebody weirded out but it was just a bunch of obvious children
>REAL devil hunter reacts to Devil May Cry
I actually watched a bunch of those videos and every time they have nothing but praise for the music.

>Ganker poster makes an on topic thread
I keep hoping. one day..
>the dude's job/race/nationality has nothing to do to with what he's reacting to

REAL israelite reacts to SOUTH PARK ANTI SEMITIC JOKES

I removed 3 or so vids like that from my algorithm and they haven't come back since. What was odd was the song I listened to that triggered them all was Children of the Omnissiah
