minus 40.000, unless the guard has a named character with them. Then its a guaranteed win, for Rotigus is a demon who respawns, so he can be killed without having narrative worries
>daemons of all 4 gods
there's no way the guardsmen would actually think to do that, but it probably shouldn't be too difficult to get them to fight each other
"Rule of Cool" only works if it's actually cool. You can't just excuse anything and everything with it, because then it just becomes "Excuse of the Dimwited".
Melee in gun settings can work, but 40k fricked up the equation by not just having Super Ultra To-the-MAX armor and defenses, but also having Ultimate Unstoppable Grenade-Rocket-Bullets and similar levels of ranged options.
It's not a smart universe. They did a gun-only factoin and everyone has irrational hatred towards them, being accused of having plot armor and whatnot, while it's really just bringing a gun into a gunfight.
Kinda the same, but what I liked the most about warhammer was seeing people shooting pistola while still charging with swords, sort of a weird but cool mix of melee and ranged.
Yeah I was a teen at the time, but I still think the chainsword and pistol combo in 40k is the coolest.
Looks cool.
Rorke's Drift, Little Bighorn, etc. and other Romantic art pieces of big battles influencing older warhammer and fantasy artists and that being imitated by whatever passes for art currently.
Defensive Armor in the setting is generally capable enough to survive the typical ranged weapons employed by standard forces. At the same time, the weapons can attrite the armor over a sufficiently long gunfight because the ranged weapons you have are not that much better and there are a frickload of the enemy. However, if you get in close, you can more horrifically imbalance the equation of relative combat ability because a lot of the melee fighters have massively increased physical capabilities. Ergo, a charge in close will weirdly allow several factions to kill more of the enemy then they would in a conventional gunfight.

And how would the guard even attempt do to so?
Survive - 0%, chance to die heroically for the Emperor - 1000%
>people with only swords/melee weapons running at people with guns
Why does 40k keep insisting on this?
It’s cool.
...is it? It sounds dumb.
Well that’s just, like, your opinion man.
>what are the rules of cool and fun?
Has anyone ever told you that you are boring autist?

cool isn't universal or objective moron
How can you build a rule on it then.

Ignoring the conceits of the setting doesn't make you smart.

>Gun+Sword
That at least makes sense. Just having a sword though is asking to be shot at for several uninterrupted seconds.
Looks cool.

>TFW You will never FIX BAYONETS and charge down a line of slavers and traitors invading your land.
Why do you insist on not working on your art?

Depends. Are they the heros in a black library book, in a story that is promoting their latest models?
How does a group of Guardsmen manage to be so unbelievably unlucky as to end up in that situation
The Titanium balls of these guardsman has to be admired here.
There's a Great Unclean One there. Their chances are in the fricking gutter and being raped by Slaanesh as we speak.
