It hasn't even come close to topping Skyrim or Witcher 3. I know totk might be impressive in your little hugbox tendie, but in the real world, it's mid.
Witcher 3s world is very pretty but it has all the same problems that TotK is now being accused of. ie rehashed points of interest. TotK at least makes you find them while W3 just loads up your map with ? from notice boards and then you run in a straight line straight to them.
W3s world is also far less intractable, and it also floods your with way more useless items. Like did you actually use crafting for anything other than witcher gear sets? TotK tries harder than most open world style games to actually give every item a purpose. I love W3 btw but the only thing it really has over TotK is aesthetics. They don't even deserve to be directly compared anyway since the meat of W3 is in the plot and TotK barely gives a shit about that in comparison.
Why do people even talk about W3 like it's a game? The gameplay is absolute dogshit from the start to the end of the game. Every single person who likes the game defends the world building and story, which is fine, but it's one of the worst videogames I've played.
I still don’t get what it is people like about it. I played it and it’s ok but there’s nothing to really sink your teeth into, the content is scattered thin across the map and it’s all mostly trivial. There’s some cool spectacle in places but there’s games that do that way better. This game and its predecessor is the epitome of strange modern thought of “liner bad so do the opposite” and you get something with no structure and repetitive content with no challenge because you can’t have a difficulty curve
>the content is scattered thin across the map and it’s all mostly trivial
Thats not true at all. Even after the gigantic tutorial island, which took me several hours, the first quest I did on the surface - the Rito quest, took me about a dozen hours of fun adventuring and exploring - from Outlook Landing, to the Hebra mountains, the sky above and eventual Temple. Suggesting the content is trivial is disingenuous. What the frick are you doing in other games? Do tell.
I meant trivial in terms of difficulty, that stuff is also fairly pointless because stuff you get from quests rarely matters. You’ll say that you’re supposed to do it for its own sake but since you aren’t going to be challenged by the puzzles or the combat I’m guessing it’s the atmosphere that would draw you to those quests and exploring those areas. There’s no accounting for taste but it wore on me quick because I played BotW relatively recently and the surface is not new. The sky is mostly all the same apart from the thunderstorm area which I liked and the depths lose all their lustre after the Great Plateau area (I will say them at area is very good for atmosphere)
Sounds like a you problem. I enjoyed all of it. The boundless adventuring, the joy of discovery, the challenge, the puzzles, the rewards. Nothing between me and the world except my own wits, resources and abilities. You'll say that doesn't count and I'll ask you name a better adventure game and you will offer nothing.
botw 3 where they add space cities with the crazy new ability to glue together things to use as space ships
>The moon is just a baren wasteland with a few bokablin camps, excavation sites, and one unique boss
That sounds like the depths
Yes, yes it does. It also sounds like the overworld. And the sky islands.
Real level design.
>zora waterworks
>water temple
>fire temple
>wind temple
>lightning temple
>construct factory
real levels, designed
go press 5 buttons and come back is awful design and its the gimmick of every "temple".
I see that they took design inspiration from Scorned lol
Has any game humiliated the gaming industry quite as hard as TotK?
Anything and everything.
Starfield already surpassed this dlc slop
Ok but how about we wait for release so we can see if it's a good game or a good game riddled with Bethesda jank?
A game with romance options
>goat onee-san is dead by the time you actually get to meet her
It's not fricking fair.

>Skyrim
LOL
Okay game but inconsistent as frick even as the most barebobes western RPG crap.

Nothing, it will win GOTY and Ganker will seethe and cope. And I will shitpost and spam threads and reset my router.
maybe a cave simulator with unbreakable weapons?
phantom pain has more freedom of choice and scale than this shit.

Activating the water temple is a puzzle itself, you have to solve a riddle.
It was topped by a mobile game.
TotK needed better shrines. With all the shrines it feels like I've been stumbling into blessings a whole lot more.
The previous game, for a start. It's not bad, but I had a better time with BotW overall.
It didn't even top Elden Ring itself
Majora's Mask 2.0
Shrink the world, bring back a proper town with npcs with schedules, the whole world drastically changes throughout the cycle.
TotK didn't top Elden Ring, try again, OP.
Ocean exploration expansion dlc- oh wait i mean full game and scratch out all abilities again and introduce an older civilization than the Zora
Just being able to build a literal walking robot justifies totk
