Probably cause it costs money
Read the article, moron. Remington paid Activision to put the rifle and it's real name into it.
>Read the article
paywall
Its the opposite moron, most gun companies love getting the publicity from video games, they usually pay video game companies to put in their guns.
Correct
morons. You can't use copyrighted things without permission, which generally involves paying the company in question. Same reason Ace Combat has licensed planes but Project Wingman does not.
>b-but Remington
No one cares about Remington, not even gun guys. All they do is make hunting stuff and bolt actions.
At the time Remington had recentishly been bought out by the Cereberus Group, a group of Wall Street types trying to consolidate the firearms industry (ignoring all the other times that’s ended poorly) which had also acquired Bushmaster and the rights to the ACR.
The ACR got handed off to Remington but a bunch of the features that had been promised earlier on in development ended up getting shelved and the early guns had problems (potentially not a big deal on its own) owing to substandard manufacturing and QC, an issue which Remington was broadly accused of with some frequency online at the time. To top everything off, while interest remained relatively strong in spite of those things, Cereberus/Remington just failed to support the product enough by ramping up production and reintroducing some of the capabilities that had been lost over the course of development. There were also complaints that the rifles were too expensive considering that a bunch of stuff got cut from the end product.
Potentially bad public image, but also it costs money to use real names. Much like a car company or tech company logo being shown in movies also usually either costs money to do or the company in question pays to be shown as advertisement.
I'm not paying for a WSJ sub to read that.
It's true, I bought guns because of videogames and movies so their strategy worked. Sucks that Sandy Hook parents ruined everything

I wondered about this quite a bit back in the day as well, never got a good answer. Sometime around the early 2000s, real guns vanished overnight, replaced with cheesy meme names, I hated it.
It is a stupid deterrent and more mass shootings have occurred in spite of the ban. People at the range just show a picture of the firearm so that it would be correctly identified.
>just making up their own designs now
I hate this shit sooo much. They make a bunch of ugly greebled guns with no practical purpose.
>plays COD
>kvetches about authenticity
fricking moron
It was never about authenticity. It's about brand recognition. The US Army heavily funds CoD titles.
Authenticity + fun gameplay is why COD got so big. It'd be irrelevant if the original games looked like the current releases as everyone would just call it gay and move on.
It's not just COD. Most Triple A games are avoiding putting in real gun names now or just making up their own designs now.
Might as well go all the way and play a fantasy game.
COD games were always on the same level as comedy action movies like Inglorious Basterds or Tropic Thunder, never meant to be taken seriously, the military packaging just exists as kayfabe for the over-the-top stories. Ironically it's trying to get more "authentic" that has left the newer games and their campaigns absolutely dreadful to play through. How can you expect the player to maintain any suspension of disbelief in your shitty "Russia takes over Afghan" pro-America plot when they slip into multiplayer and see a Nicki Minaj skin and players with glowing neon guns?
Yeah it's fricking stupid
Even basic ass AK 47s, the most common gun in the fricking universe, is called something like the "Kostov" now or something.
Dumb stupid bullshit
Old news, but now that it got a reddit post w few days ago journotrannies finally reported on it.
>this lawsuit made them bankrupt
??????
what about that confuses you
How did the biggest name in shotguns get taken down with a simple $70 million hit
i'm pretty sure that's benelli, remington is hunting rifles
>Benelli
I don't know much about guns but I've never heard of the name before. I think Remington when I think shotgun. Thanks for telling me
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benelli_M4
only reason you wouldn't know this is if you were born after '99
I was born in '99 actually
Remington makes rifles, shotguns, pistol etc
yeah they make pump shotguns but the thing they get contracts for are their bolt action rifles, maybe if you're talking about the 1940s or something they're a relevant shotgun manufacturer
wait actually i just realised, this is remington group not remington arms. they're talking about the bushmaster ACR because the group bought bushmaster when they went bankrupt
like i remember the acr controversy and it's the one lanza used
>acr
Lmao. The best part of people not knowing what they’re talking about is letting them continue to talk.

???
Speaking from experience?

peak /noguns/
>video james cause people to buy guns
really now? maybe some /k/gays would agree
>see gun in vidya/movie
>hey that looks pretty cool
>buy it
Way more common than you think
Why do you need the real names anyway, especially brand names? Just makes the game more confusing
i wouldnt mind the name changes if they had good replacement names. you look at the new cod and the names they replaced the weapons with fricking suck dick
look at the current cod weapon names and tell me they dont sound moronic
why did you use a pic of a cod game from 2009??????????????????????????????
>why did you use a pic of a cod game from 2009??????????????????????????????
What's the fricking difference? They all look exactly the same.
>look guys i have to use a game from 2009 to get your attention because nobody gives a shit about codslop anymore besides normies
because it is the best cod
