Why are you so obsessed with shitting on med2?
What total war game(s) do you actually like?
.
While based, Attila has its fair share of problems.
>Cav feels like it's floating
dlc
>restricted building space in settlements
>no tax per settlement, only empire wide
>cav archer op
>last roman is trash
>archerii, javelinii, pikemanni are all useless
Just noting some of your arguments.
But I agree, Attila is the best tw warscape game and med2 is the best pre 2010 total war.
Stop forcing a rivalry.
Lol, are you stupid?
Warhammer is clearly the most modern and best TW game. It has the best unit diversity by far (and I MEAN it which other tw game lets you stomp on vampire pirates with friggin dragons?) Attila can't compete not in a million years.
I tried med 2, it was a borefest. I couldnt see shit what was happening and graphics look like shit too. Everything looks the same its almost as shit as shogun 2.
>and I MEAN it which other tw game lets you stomp on vampire pirates with friggin dragons?
Go back.
>and med2 is the best pre 2010 total war
Except that's Rome 1. Med 2 is its ugly younger sister.
Careful with all that bait, or you gonna get yourself a heavy metal poisoning
The problem with Rome 1 is that it had many factions which clearly seemed to be designed as less relevant or not playable at all, like 3/4rd of barbarian factions and some african ones. Roman houses were meant to be the main factions, overshadowing even Persians. In Medieval 2 you can find a non-autistic way with pretty much every faction.
>The problem with Rome 1 is that Roman houses were meant to be the main factions
This DOES sound a bit moronic but he's not wrong, it's almost like non-roman factions have only half the content. Kinda same applied to non-christian factions in Medieval 2 but at least Muslims have their jihads and are mostly hated by christians from day1. Orthodox bros have nothing and their units are clearly inferior
Pre kingdoms byz is garbage but russia gets really good gunpowder units earlier than most factions get handgunners as well as decent ap infantry, multi role archers and decent cavalry.
The problem is that they get mogged hard statistically in every category by the poles early on and it takes forever to get even simple spearmen.
Boyar sons for example is a neat unit but the mounted polish nobles are just better.
Mechanically yeah, no crusades or equivalent on the flipside the pope won't go NOOOO YOU CAN'T DO THAT every five minutes you're fighting a christian nation
Also for some reason the russian steppes spawn five times as many rebel stacks as anywhere else on some of the least profitable land in the game, on the other hand it's pretty much free real estate until the mongols pop up.
Byzantines and Novogorod in the minor campaigns had the best looks in the game.
>The flamethrowers
>The Druzhina archers
>Rome 1
my homie
Attila could be great game, but it's so badly optimised that it runs like shit even if you have a pc that vastly outshines it's recommended specs.
Attilla: Total Autoresolve
this, the annoying c**t is getting on my nerves slowly
Is there a TW game where I don't have to spam click to save my cavalry because 1 guy got stuck?
>another tw flame war thread
Holy skill issue.
OP here, I've built a room full of drawings I made about how much I hate Medieval 2. I even have some drawn with my own fricking blood. I also used a lot of printed screenshots of medieval 2 and I put I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU all over them. I have to cut myself to do it. One time I drew out so much blood out of my body because I was making a illustration about the terrible sieges in medieval 2 and had to go to the hospital. It was a 35x48 inch sheet of paper.
Warhammer ruined this playerbase.
It was already bad way before Warhammer came around. Don't kid yourself.
>worst feeling cavalry
One good charge can knock down at least a half of a lategame unit.
>terrible camera downgraded from Med1
It may be downgraded but it's far from terrible, I've seen worse.
>terrible unit responsiveness, almost drunken
This only applies to cavalry and it's not a rule. Sometimes they're perfectly responsive, sometimes they suddenly stop a metre before the impact.
>everything is slow except when units are in combat. x6 speed is needed
Bullshit. Also the speedup thing applies to literally all Total Wars.
>terrible combat
That's (You)r opinion and it's wrong.
>terrible sieges
More or less better than anything that came arter Med2.
>terrible art style
Literally the best they could do back in the days. And it's still incredibly detailed - which Warscape TW lets you see physical upgrades on units?
>worst battle music
Now you're just trolling or you have utter shittaste.
>most buildings are useless
Literally untrue.
>merchants are not benficial and are useless
Merchants make nice dosh on expensive goods like gold, ivory or slaves, but yeah, they're rather bad in Europe. Islam keeps winning.
>billmenni, pikemanni and polearmanni are all useless
Billmen are a good and cheap offensive anti-armor unit. Pikemen are fine when you know how to set thep up in this clunky engine. Polearm units - big fat "it depends".
>Kingdoms is trash
Britannia, Teutons and Crusades campaigns are cool. A bit less for Americas.
2/10 i replied
>One good charge can knock down at least a half of a lategame unit.
This is something I cant understand in post med 2 total wars, rome and med cavalry was brutal, it demolished entire armies of infantry
meanwhile in warhammer
>Cav charges falsely feel like they destroy entire unit, because they do legitimately send people flying 20 meters into the air...
>...except then the unit gets back up and kills the cavalry anyway
literally the #1 reason I just can't play most total war games, I've a simple monkey brain that wants to see men on horses trample men without horses so fricking hard they don't get up
>Cav charges falsely feel like they destroy entire unit, because they do legitimately send people flying 20 meters into the air...
>...except then the unit gets back up and kills the cavalry anyway
I find this a problem in general with nü-tw. It's difficult to visually follow how battles are going when the models get tossed around like rag dolls, take cannonballs to the face etc. without dying.
that depends on the unit. Dedicated charge cav needs to be cycle charge. The 10s post-charge combat bonus isn't worth it. If you use a chariot and cycle charge it feels as strong as med2 cav.
>Cav charges falsely feel like they destroy entire unit, because they do legitimately send people flying 20 meters into the air...
>...except then the unit gets back up and kills the cavalry anyway
This only applies to warhammer
is that water what it looks like completely stock? goddamn how far we've fallen.
what do you mean by stock
Probably if they put trout in it or not
unit responsiveness, almost drunken
its a realism feature, commanding troops is supposed to be slow and clunky, soldiers supposed to walk slow and save energy and rarely run.
It also gives the player time to maneuver his troops. Battles back then were slow.
Battles in modern tw games are way too fast and arcadey. Its turning into a hectic clickfest where you can't even enjoy the graphics and fighting animations.
I don't know why people b***h about this in med2 when rome tw has this exact same mechanic as well.
the other total wars don't even try to simulate this and just glide across the map
>Battles in modern tw games are way too fast and arcadey.
No TW game has faster battles than Rome 1.
>Its turning into a hectic clickfest where you can't even enjoy the graphics and fighting animations.
>Noooo the game is making me click buttons now I can't enjoy the epic grafics and watch the badass little men do a stabberino
Play on easy then, idiot.
The board was ruined after a week when it became nothing but CA and Paradox flame war threads.
The worst part of the game is that the AI have nothing else to do but annoy the living shit out of you.
Oh you landed a shitty trade resource? Watch as a merchant walks from the other aide of the continent to kill your merchant then immediately leave the resource.a Christian kingdom declared an unprovoked war on you and you fought back? the pope will excommunicate your ass and all your towns will rebel. And good luck in offensive sieges where you have to repeat the same shitty order 10 times for your units to finally cross a gate.
I have suspicions that people who hate medieval 2 are nothing but vanilla gays. As in, they play all the total war games without mods.
so... exactly how they are supposed to be? if a game has to be saved by modders then it literally cann't be good.
not that med2 haters are right, though .
>if a game has to be saved by modders then it literally cann't be good.
it literally can though. vtm is the shittiest game ever then by your stupid logic. a games modding scene and capability absolutely plays a huge factor into a games rating, for some games even outright redeeming it
>if a game has to be saved by modders then it literally cann't be good.
Skyrim is praised.
>if a game has to be saved by modders then it literally cann't be good
Med2 was released almost 17 years ago, and ppls keep playing it.
Just stop talk bullshit.
"has" doesn't mean "is" in this case.
You'd have to prove that all of those who play Med2 today are people who play mods, which is basically impossible.
>worst battle music
Here I was, thinking I had seen the absolute worst dogshit tastes on Ganker, and yet, OP manages to be an even bigger homosexual everytime...
zzz...
Why do troops in youtube videos seem to have twice the size of mine? Like 120 spearmen or something. Is there an unofficial patch or something that I missed?
I think you can change that either in the options or when you start a campaign, look for unit size option
Personally though I have a lot of crashes with huge unit size so I keep it standard, I find its better balanced for my tastes as well
>worst battle music
Meds.
why are getting random med2 hate threads now?
and why are these shitty bait threads allowed to ruin the board?
i just didn't like it because the base unit counts were shrunk compared to Rome
went from 160 to 120 units for medium-heavy infantry and 200 to 160 units for light infantry/peasant levies
not cool man
Best unit to have in Medieval TW
Bulgarian Brigands; archers that can fight with short swords hand to hand. Huge courage in a hand to hand fight, devastating at distance
Best unit to have in Medieval TW 2
Scots Guard
Longbow + beautiful full body armor and a longsword. Huge courage in a fight, devastating at a distance
