Square doesn't know how to make good games anymore, they've become an AA company that can't innovate and all their competitors have overtaken them. The only thing keeping them afloat is XIV but all that siphoning of money and talent to the rest of the company is having a noticable negative effect on that too to the point where despite being the biggest launch for an expansion it was a flop by the end of it. The next expansion will certainly be less successful on launch
I think the biggest problem is they made the bizarre choice to make the FFVII Remake a trilogy. Surely someone realized that you can really only blow the "MODERN REMAKE OF A CLASSIC GAME" wad once. And that was with the first game. After that, what do you have? Sure, it's the continuation of the first game, which was popular, and this one reviewed even higher. But the luster of the idea of a FFVII remake is gone. It's been years since the first one even came out, and even more years, twice as many perhaps?, since it was first revealed. "FFVII has a remake" is just a thing now, there's no real appeal to it.
You know how a big videogame psychology thing is avoiding "down time?" That is, preventing there from being moments where the player has the chance to stop playing, and thus may never start again? Splitting up the remake is basically just that on a massive scale: even people who played the entirety of Remake have had years to lose interest in continuing. Especially continuing at $70 dollars or even just for the sheer amount of time a big open world game requires. Even if they really liked the first game and wanted more then, there's no guarantee they do now.
And now they're going to spend another four years and however many millions doing it again. Good luck.

And it's a damn shame because I'm convinced that a straight-up 2-part Remake (I can accept VII being "too big" for modern hardware, first Part could end at Forgotten Capital) then it would have been a massive success like the RE2&4 remakes were.

The disappointment when it comes to things like this is always twofold. First because the thing itself was underwhelming and second because it's very expensive existence all but guarantees that the kind of remake (or adaption) I wanted will never happen. In many such cases this is the one chance it got. And now its gone.
The best could do at this point is shit out some low quality phone game, but that would be missing the point once again.

They've been at it for 10+ years cycling and recycling through series and franchises. They have a discord (likely Rugga's) where they run these operations. Mods through silence have given tacit approval. They use terms like "meds" "take meds" "schizo" "ohnononono" "sisters" etc to cause psychological damage.
