Dollars Trilogy is a classic for a good reason, but how about that Once Upon a Time in the West.
Once Upon a Time in the West went on a bit too long and got unnecessarily convoluted in the end. I think I'll watch it again.

Crazy that they did a tabletop ping pong game, and that it was actually fun.
Unless I founded a game studio and worked as the narrative/idea/video/business guy while my friends worked as the programmers, it'd never happen BUT I daydream about making my own Western video game all the time.
I'm sure it'd be and insane amount of work but what pisses me off about RDR2 is that it doesn't lean into Western archetypes at all - shoot outs, clearing out towns, and so on. It's just so anti-designed.

Playing RDR2 for the first time right now. It's incredible how little freedom does the player have. Not just during missions but even when simply interacting with the 'random encounters' or whatever you want to call them.
There's a side quest where you're tasked with tracking down the best gunslingers and interviewing them. The quest giver implies that it's ok to kill them (not that the player should need his permission). So the first gunslinger I found was a BAD ASS BOSS b***h, you're forced to help her fight off the mercenaries then you must take of photo of her and then she fricks off. If she dies during the fight that's mission failed for you. If you try to shoot her when she fricks off, the game simply won't let you, graying out the crosshair.
Then there's a dude held hostage in a basement by a gunstore owner. He shouts for help through the basement window, this happens midday in a populated city and every NPC around literally ignores him for some reason. Alright frick it, I walk up to the store and knock out the shopkeeper (if you knock somebody out with your bare firsts, that counts as murder apparently) in hopes of looting the basement door key off of him and freeing the hostage. Except there's no key on his body or anywhere at the shop. Apparently you're supposed to initiate a robbery and force him to unlock the door for you, and that's the only way This is so fricking dumb.
Incredibly slow animations on literally every action are a pain in the ass too.
I just started so that's all I have so far, but I'm sure there will be more bullshit.

I dislike RDR2 for about 100 reasons but what gets me the most is the camp and gang mechanics are such utter dogshit for a game that wants to convince you that you're all this big happy communist family.
If this had been anything more than the half-half-baked shit that it is, the whole message might've resonated more strongly. The Housers simply didn't know which game they wanted to make which is why it's Dutch's communism simulator and passive commentary on British imperialism at the same time.

The camp system is completely autistic at best.
You have to constantly return back to camp just for the various dialogue events to trigger, breaking the flow state of you playing the game and the flow of the story progression. Then, even if you contribute to the camp, it doesn't do much, making it hollow and artificial. And finally, neither the player nor the NPCs contribute to the camp in any meaningful way that affects the story outcome (live/die being the most basic).
The concept art we saw before Rockstar pussied out and cancelled the book had strong vibes and the only time they ever came to making good on the overall concept of the game was after Arthur returns from the ambush.
Again, it's just jack of all trades master of none game design and a giant missed opportunity. The only reason it's hyped to death is because of the insane graphics and polish and because it has your textbook emotionally manipulative character death ending.
