>If you can't lift that, you're a woman. >They're only about 30kg.
A 30 inch Trinitron is 150 pounds, with the only thing to grab being flimsy smooth plastic. Stupid zoomer.
>150lbs unwieldy box is the same as on the bar.
I'd call you funny balls but we both know you're a larping fatty with empty burger and nugget boxes all around you.
There is no red pill.
They are too small, you can't get decent refresh rate at decent resolution unless you spend thousands of $/€.
Only reason you would want to use one is playing old PC gaymes.
t. I own one.
you don't even need em for playing old games
if you have a modern gpu you have integer scaling which pretty much makes old games playable even at their intended resolution
underage morons think cranking resolution up will make the game look better when in reality it's the exact opposite
It's hard to explain, back in the late 90's 640x480 used to look good. But in reality it was my imagination doing the hard work.
But there are still game that look good even on high resolution displays.
If you enjoyed playing games in arcades you would understand.
most of the time it even looks remotely even decent is because art style was simply carrying hard most cases it looks worse in general and often people are blind to how pixelated games are
often most of the time I just go for the default resolution or 2x that because of most cases it looks terrible especially early 3d
Early 3D is absolute trash, sure.
Mostly because it's not pure 3D and textures/backgrounds are quite low resolution, those don't scale at all.
Good 2D still looks good.
But around 2000 3D graphics became quite serviceable.
If you leave it on a while, you can gather the static buildup on the screen and carry it with you for the next minute or so and zap the frick out of anyone you choose
I'm 38 and crt monitors are why everyone my age wears glasses. I was into fishing and skateboarding until I got older and now that I'm into gaming with my vision intact and everything else fricked up I appreciate oled.
They boast exactly two benefits: extremely low latency and the ability to properly display graphics made specifically to work on CRT displays (half-pixel styles)
Just getting a high refresh rate monitor or TV is fine, and filters work well especially when the image is being so heavily upscaled
There are plenty of screens with great contrast even though I'll grant you that figuring out which ones do is a pain in the dick because everyone is basically lying about their contrast ratios
I still love my Viera plasma and it's still going strong
You have a relic of the technological past you can sit awkwardly on a shelf. Beyond that I imagine the small group of people who think they’re cool are the type of old nerds who own a flip phone still because they can’t move past dial up days. Or you have the weird influx of younger people who think it’s retro and cool. Everyone else who was ever forced to use one never wishes to see them again. There is no nostalgia for that in the same way there is no nostalgia for mice will gay balls inside them.
>Everyone else who was ever forced to use one never wishes to see them again. There is no nostalgia for that in the same way there is no nostalgia for mice will gay balls inside them.
I was using a crt tv up until 2016. I regret properly disposing of my CRT monitor that we had in the garage, but that's the type of shit thats gotta go when a person moves.
They're the audiophiles of video games. They are an enjoyable niche purchase that provides a unique visual experience, but the benefits plateau hard and you can easily fall into a money and hoarder trap on some old bullshit.
OLEDs minimize a lot of the shits I used to give about them. That and scalper Black person boomers and millennial zoys who don’t play games ruining them on marketplaces.

crt monitors are generally in much worse condition than the tvs for a variety of reasons. don't spend any serious money or travel because there's a good chance it will have some nagging issue and you'll be left holding the bag.
don't expect breath taking contrast, crt monitors stand out because matte lcd's are so bad in that area not because they have amazing shrowroom inky contrast.
A meme for anything but the pixel art retro games designed for them. And CRT filters have gotten a lot more sophisticated. Personally I think it's silly unless you're also using original/FPGA hardware to be as authentic as possible.
Unless you happened to get a CRT with RGB input (rare). Just use whatever the best connection your set offers. Likely just standard RCA composite or if you're lucky S-Video. You can buy appropriate cables for the various systems.
is basically right. It's possible, but likely more trouble than it's worth unless you want to get into the weeds.

What do you mean by "retro monitor"?
If you mean like a VGA monitor then you need an upscaler/converter just like you would with a modern HDTV. You have more options however because there are VGA cables for the PS2 that transcode the output.
- CRTs are no longer produced because they have inferior picture quality versus LCDs
- CRTs emit dangerous levels of X-rays or other forms of radiation
- CRTs always have easily-visible flicker
- CRTs always cause eyestrain
- CRTs always make a high-pitched squealing noise
- CRTs contain lethal amounts of electricity, even when unplugged
- CRTs need calibration more than two to three times a year
- Overall CRT black levels are not superior to LCDs because ambient light ruins CRT black levels
- Analog CRTs have more processing time than digital LCDs due to poor RAMDAC performance
- Afterimages caused by phosphor decay are extremely annoying and are a significant downside of CRTs
- Sending an improper mode (resolution or refresh rate) to a CRT can cause permanent damage
- CRTs cannot have touchscreens
- 4:3 is so bad that nobody should use a non-widescreen CRT
- The Sony GDM-FW900 is the only CRT worth owning
- Curved CRTs have objectively inferior picture quality versus flat CRTs with otherwise equal specifications
- CRTs should not be used because they are heavier and deeper than LCDs
- CRTs have severe reflections because they do not have matte coats
- CRTs can be permanently damaged by nearby magnets
- Analog signals limit a CRT's resolutions and refresh rates and negatively effect picture quality
- Heavy metals are used in CRT glass to reduce radiation
they're better than today's monitors
>hey bro can you help me go get a free TV?
>sure thing man, just let me set up the crane to load it in the back of my truck
The best monitor ever made is still the Sony FW900.
CRT's have still not been beaten when it comes to image quality, motion clarity, and input lag.
The only thing modern screens do better is geometry, convergeance, and screen size.
If you can't lift that, you're a woman. They're only about 30kg. Most men can deadlift 3 times that easily.
Complete lies.
>The only thing modern screens do better is geometry, convergeance, and screen size.
and weight. easier to move.
And fricking heat output. Thankfully graphics cards have made up the difference
>If you can't lift that, you're a woman. >They're only about 30kg.
A 30 inch Trinitron is 150 pounds, with the only thing to grab being flimsy smooth plastic. Stupid zoomer.
Are you seriously complaining about not being able to lift 150lbs? Get your test checked.
I'm sorry you only ever had a 12" tv, Trinitrons were pretty cool once you got them set up
I had a 35" Toshiba you pleb. It was so fricking huge that it came with its own stand.
you're bald lmao
Nope, just had a good childhood.
>150lbs unwieldy box is the same as on the bar.
I'd call you funny balls but we both know you're a larping fatty with empty burger and nugget boxes all around you.
luhmao if you think 150lbs has any difficulty as long as you can get two hands on it
stop taking estrogen and lift, homosexual
fw900 is not the best CRT monitor. it's just widescreen. there are monitors that can do higher resolutions than it
soul
they're blurry pieces of shit and laggier than modern low latency displays
This, time has not been kind to them and nobody has the tools to work on CRTs anymore. Just another case of lost technology.
>nobody has the tools to work on CRTs anymore
You don't have a soldering iron and a multimeter?
>anons thinking they'll make crts cheap again if they lie
my zowie xl2566k@360hz has worse response rate and ghosting than my 180hz crt
they have better colors and better refresh rate
but its big, destroy your eyes and make an horrible noise
subhumans can't hear high freqs
They R k00l.
another underage moron fascinated with old tech that was garbage
the only good shit was the games
There is no red pill.

user error.
1440i 140hz is more then good and 22 inch is bigger then it sounds due to 4:3 aspect
My CRT is only 85kHz horizontal.
This doesn't allow for good resolution and decent refresh rate at the same time. It's only 17"in reality 16"
17 inch only good for retro yeah but can be ok for modern too
>My CRT is only 85kHz horizontal.
That's more than enough for 1280x960i120.
The only way to game.
Shitty photo. CRTs have bad brightness so you need to keep your room dim. Get better camera.
absolute moron
Monitors seem way more rare than the TVs. I can't find these anywhere.
If you leave it on a while, you can gather the static buildup on the screen and carry it with you for the next minute or so and zap the frick out of anyone you choose
Confused morons Television
That's one heavy and power heavy TAA
I cannot see shit
It looks quite bad, not gonna lie.
Looks amazing.
Not really. RDR2 has awful rendering without TAA.
CRTs have soft image by default and TAA will rape the sharpness even further.
Looks great.
I'm 38 and crt monitors are why everyone my age wears glasses. I was into fishing and skateboarding until I got older and now that I'm into gaming with my vision intact and everything else fricked up I appreciate oled.
>monitor
Useless shit
>Composite CRT TV set
This is the shit right here.
They boast exactly two benefits: extremely low latency and the ability to properly display graphics made specifically to work on CRT displays (half-pixel styles)
Just getting a high refresh rate monitor or TV is fine, and filters work well especially when the image is being so heavily upscaled
They also have far better blacks than all but the latest and best screens and even then crt is still better.
There are plenty of screens with great contrast even though I'll grant you that figuring out which ones do is a pain in the dick because everyone is basically lying about their contrast ratios
I still love my Viera plasma and it's still going strong
>properly display graphics
>Set monitor settings wrong
>Image looks bad
Yeah, I must admit screenshots look really bad with that shader. You have to see it in motion.
>They boast exactly two benefits
Neither of those are even the primary benefit, which is low persistence and nearly unrivaled motion clarity.
This screen cap makes me want to replay D2 on a CRT.
It can't be this crisp.
Ok, now I remember why I didn't replay D2, it's 25FPS. Unplayable.
projectdiablo2.com
Last time I tried D2 I installed MedialXL it was quite fun. I'll check it out later.
they are e-waste, don't bother
let me dispose of them
ironic

zoomers seem to love them idk why tho
they're heavy
The picture can be good but they have extreme limitations. Not worth it overall.
They're the audiophiles of video games. They are an enjoyable niche purchase that provides a unique visual experience, but the benefits plateau hard and you can easily fall into a money and hoarder trap on some old bullshit.
That's not a crt
OLEDs minimize a lot of the shits I used to give about them. That and scalper Black person boomers and millennial zoys who don’t play games ruining them on marketplaces.
hopefully you find a job soon.
Yeah I have an OLED but not a CRT because I don’t have a job, do CRTroons really
I hope you save up $150 and get one some day anon.
soul
do you have space for one? if yes go ahead
Demanded proper male upper body strength like old cars before power steering.
software looks better on the displays they were built to be played on.
playing helldivers 2 on my 500PS right now.
looks amazing with 1200p and supersampling

I prefer CRT TVs
I have an old hotwheels CRT I tested and it works fine. I tried emulatinig N64 (I know) and it honestly didn't look any better than on my LCD
by far the best image tech for games.
get them while you still can.
if you want a bigger experience, try to get a crt projector. beware they are heavy and loud.
A meme for anything but the pixel art retro games designed for them. And CRT filters have gotten a lot more sophisticated. Personally I think it's silly unless you're also using original/FPGA hardware to be as authentic as possible.
What's the best way to connect retro consoles (PS2, Sega Saturn, SNES) to a retro monitor (I got a free Sony Triniton from work)? Is it possible?
sell the monitor and get a TV instead
Unless you happened to get a CRT with RGB input (rare). Just use whatever the best connection your set offers. Likely just standard RCA composite or if you're lucky S-Video. You can buy appropriate cables for the various systems.
Only has VGA, unfortunately.
Best take the advice here, then?
Oh my bad, I misread your post. Yeah
is basically right. It's possible, but likely more trouble than it's worth unless you want to get into the weeds.
https://github.com/ramapcsx2/gbs-control
>Unless you happened to get a CRT with RGB input (rare).
Every VGA CRT has RGB input tho.
Keep the monitor and find a TV too.
You can plug a Dreamcast in that probably. That's about it.
What do you mean by "retro monitor"?
If you mean like a VGA monitor then you need an upscaler/converter just like you would with a modern HDTV. You have more options however because there are VGA cables for the PS2 that transcode the output.
people used to talk about gaming until their eyes bleed
That phrase disappeared when CRTs fell out of use. i don't consider it to be worth the eye fatigue when other options such as shaders exist
also, the whine of NTSC tubes is painful for zoomers and tiring for millennials

Dead Tech
>CRTs emit dangerous levels of X-rays or other forms of radiation
Then why didn't we all die in the 80s and 90s?
