Redpill me on this game, it's on sale, it's cheap and i'm thinking about buying it.
Also, is the vanilla experience good enough or do i have to spend countless hours modding this game to have the minimum amount of fun?

It's a decent loot shooter with the unofficial patch that makes it crash only every 2 hours instead of every 30 minutes
There's no amount of mods that will make it a good Fallout game
Don't use the unofficial patch. It causes infinite loading. Use mods that increase the memory limit instead. I forget their name
as opposed to increasing the mem limit through the ini and game files?
>how are the mods better/different?
They do more than just ini edits. Doing it through the ini might cause stability issues
are these onboard Mod Manager friendly?
>or am i going to have to wipe my list and DL vortex lol?
You can install them through mod manager and they shouldn't conflict with anything that's not listed as incompatible. Irrc the one I used was incompatible with the unofficial mod
>unofficial mod
patch? kindly what do you mean brother?
how likely is this April 25th patch/update going to fix CTD issues and you think it will play nice with current installed mods?
NTA but one of the biggest Fallout 4 expansions (Fallout London) has been put on indefinite hold by the modders because nobody knows how badly the update is going to screw up mods yet. Again, it's a non-issue if you just use Mod Manager to launch the game.
>giant mod that actually expands the game world and adds new things instead of just rehashing BoS, super mutants and scavenging rusty shacks for nuka cola ad infinitum about to drop
>new update kills it
mere cohencidence?
If the New Vegas mod ends up getting cancelled or fricked over by Todd's "engine update" homosexualry I will summon a demon to haunt him for the rest of his natural life.
>update introduces new bugs and crashes while frickign up mods
most likely outcome
I've really tried a lot of keywords to find it on the mod manager, with no joy bro... damn
>I've just over 5GB of mods
>mostly gameplay/mechanic/quality of life tweaks
>a few quest additions
>NV items and FO3 weapons
>better NPC/AI
Just started getting instability issues after level 80 and going into....

The stats system is so fricked. So so fricked. What fricking moron came up with that shit. The classic stat system was very good because it made you feel like the character you chose had a niche. Now you just increase all special stats to 10 so every high level character is monolithic.
You need to play for an a long time for that to happen. My last playthrough covered around 70% of the map and I wasn't close to capping anything
>Also, is the vanilla experience good enough
I think I'd rather swallow broken glass than play fallout 4 vanilla again
I've played every Fallout and Wasteland game aside from Fallout Tactics. Yes even Fallout Brotherhood of Steel.
I have more hours in Fallout 4 than any of the other games and more than any game I've ever played.
It is not a phenomenal game. It has all the Bethesda jank that all their games have. Of the Bethesda Fallout games it is the most "polished". The reason I have so many hours in Fallout 4 specifically is because I really enjoyed the base building. My main complaint compared to all the Fallout/Wasteland games is that because your character is voiced you have less choices. If you are really into story and having options in the quests I suggest New Vegas. If the base building, graphics, or casual turn-your-brain-off fun interest you go with Fallout 4.
The only mod I would highly recommend is the one that removes the base building limits. The PC version of the game has the same building limitations the console version has. After that just go with whatever mods interest you.
good morning sir
>aside from Fallout Tactics
its fun, give it a go
>I've played every Fallout and Wasteland game aside from Fallout Tactics
>I have more hours in Fallout 4 than any of the other games and more than any game I've ever played.
Post Steam numbers or gtfo
Yes, I love slowly progressing through the game while touching up every base little by little until each place feels unique
The problem most games have with loot, and as people call this a 'looter shooter; but that implies looting better gear. Hear you can have a more personalized loadout and looting goes to expanding your settlements. Loot is largely pointless in most games as you always have enough money. So the motivation to go out and scavenge makes exploration and exploring the world reqarding as you'll stumble upon all kinds of shit. Yeah the writing is lacking as is tangible roleplaying options, however if you have a imagination its great for roleplaying, and thats the truth brother
-HH
Its a generic looter shooter with base building and with a fallout theme.
Do you have to do the base building? Because I played it years ago, and got caught up in that shit and was bored out of my mind. Is there a way to skip it?
There is a tutorial quest to teach you how to build stuff and set up trade routes. After that no. You never have to do anything involving base building again.
Thanks, mane. That helps a lot.
don't you need to build the teleporter
My bad. One other quest. To build one thing. And you don't have to spend hours constructing an entire base around it. Just pop it down and done.
Just ignore everyone that asks you for help and be a total selfish prick. You don't have to do shit in this game and you'll have the most fun playing it like this, trust me
Idiots comparing FO4 to Borderlands because it's not NV. Your a moron, see
Are there any good lists on wabbajack?
Magnum Opus i guess
Bad story. But has base building. Its not that good though and the UI was designed for consoles. At that point, you might as well play Minecraft or Terraria if you want base building autism
>we made a bad game but as a compensation we added base building which isn't actually necessary and also bad
what were they thinking
What compels OP to make the same thread every day
its complete shit and not even worth it for free, to be honest with you. its mostly a looter fps with about 1% RPG elements. even then, its a fricking horrid fps where almost any other game is better. its a complete, mindless moronic game that makes you feel like a dumb drone just going from hallway to hallway to more moronic story. its better than starfield only because of the fact that it has the fallout name and setting, but that's it.
>its better than starfield only because of the fact that it has the fallout name and setting, but that's it.
Haven't played starfield. Is it really that bad?
It is nearly identical to all other games Bethesda has made going all the way back to Oblivion. If you enjoyed all previous games you will most likely have a good time. I you haven't liked any Bethesda games since Morrowind then don't bother.
It would've been decent 15 years ago
>It would've been decent 15 years ago
worth a playthrough at least
I enjoyed skyrim and really disliked fallout 4, it just pissed me off
>I can enjoy fallout 4 because it's (tenuously) related to the wider franchise
funnily enough this is my number one issue with f4
No I get it. I guess you could say I enjoy f4 ironically. Course' I'm jaded as frick about it when I am playing it all the same.
> Oh, a deathclaw, eh? Shame this game doesn't recognise that the intelligent deathclaws of the second game were a really important plot point that led to the mind control devices used in the third game that Todd said was silly and not really worth mentioning in the canon.
> Ah well, minigun goes brrrrrr
And thats about as much enjoyment I get out of it.
Fair enough, I also enjoyed going to the glowing see to kill anything I come across
Main character would have been a lot more interesting if you had some like the dark urge from BG3 where murdering shit was part of the plot.
F4 would've been amazing if that Bethesda hack was right, game should've been about killing Canadians
Pete Heines (?) said that he is the guy in the intro of fallout 1 that executes the pow, I think of him as a war criminal. That's the only way to play f4
It's almost exactly like fallout 4 except for a few added gameplay elements that don't change anything. I can enjoy fallout 4 because it's (tenuously) related to the wider franchise. Starfield is just a big old meh to me.
>I can enjoy fallout 4 because it's (tenuously) related to the wider franchise
who fricking cares if its connected to the fallout franchise, the game fricking sucks, in no small part because of how shitty the writing and worldbuilding is. There's no redeeming value in a pile of shit wearing the mask of something better.
Would you fricking take HRT if they renamed estrogen pills to like Rad-X or something
Calm down you absolute turbohomosexual, not everything is black or white.
>not everything is black
no, but you certainly are for this dumbass non sequitur
> Continues to be a seething idiot.
Congratulations.
>> Continues to be a... idiot.
my man, you like FO4
My man, I said I enjoyed it, not that I liked it. Same way I can enjoy plowing your crackprostitute of a mom.
>erm, ackshually, I never said I LIKED the game, only that I enjoy it, totally different.
kill
your
self
Not an actual response. Enjoy being completely fricking irrelevant for the rest of your life.
>erm, sir? Sir? For the record, you failed to substantively reply to my argument in chief, in particular my sound contention, premised I should say upon ample evidence in the record before us now, that I do in fact totally T-bag ur mom. This omission is a glaring defect in your argumentation so as to transfigure it into a nullity. I shall now collect my plaudits, and be done with you posthaste.
k, big boy, why don't you go "enjoy" fallout 4 now
So, just for the record, your mom totally puts out for crack, right?
Such fact is in fact of course ripe for the taking of judicial notice, for indeed it is the common knowledge of all the community around that there is little doubt that my mother does indeed put out for crack.
Capital.
I completely understand Starfield being meh.
I just prefer sci-fi spaceship stuff to post apocalypse settings.
vanilla is dogshit
if you're going to get it to mod it, bear in mind that FO4 doesn't have anywhere the selection of good content mods that skyrim does. FO4 essentially has a bunch of gun mods, some mods that add base building mode decorations, and then a whole bunch of garbage, like just tons of shitty fricking framework mods that break everything and aren't fun, bimbo bodyslide presets, just shit that belongs in a fricking landfill.
You have to ask yourself whether it's worth it to buy a game so you can spend hours shooting generic npcs with a cowaduty ar15 and collecting literal garbage off the floor.
its fun and some of the ambient music is really good. the settlements can go frick themselves
Story sucks
Shootans fun
Gun modding is fun
City building is fun til you realize its pointless
Survival mode is pretty crap
DLC is better than the main game, but not by a lot
Its a solid 7/10 that you can get 1000 hours out of but you'll come away hating the things Bethsoft did wrong making it while still overall enjoying the experience
>you can get 1000 hours out of
Bull fricking shit you schizo. 300 hours at the very most. You'd have to be severely mentally impaired to keep getting dopamine hits from this game past the 500 hour mark. Lobotomised, basically.
I've 100%ed it. An aggressively "mid" experience overall. I will never replay it.
The story, writing, worldbuilding and quests are genuinely awful. Seriously just so fricking abysmal that it's impressive.
I cant tell if the far harbor quest and story are really good or they just seem good since they are right next to the slop that is the main game.
the story and the lore of the Institute is so bad I still think about it to this day. How in the frick this homosexual writer Emil pagliaguro or whatever the frick hes called expects to be taken remotely seriously is beyond me.
Why did they even add the digital scan effect to the armor for the game portrait anyways? What do they mean by this? Game doesn't even have a digital setting or anything beside the memory quests.
because le synths
Makes no sense, they are organic. Not even digital.
is survival mode really the best way to play this? i'm at level 20 and am tired of losing progress from crashes, plus i steamroll everything anyway. considering turning this gimmick trash off
Pretty decent if you treat it as a relaxing brainless open world shooter with a cool vibe
Awful if you expect an RPG
It's a good game, anon. The exploration is amongst the best in the Fallout series. People have gripes with the settlement/crafting system but honestly I found it to be a fun diversion in between questing and exploring the map. Your settlements can also give you caps if you want to develop them, so it's not like you get nothing out of them. As for mods, just download the Midnight Ride. It's all you need. It has some UI tweaks and a ton of bug fixes. Only thing is if you get it on Steam, make sure you DISABLE updates ("Update this game only when I launch it"). An engine update is coming in a few weeks and it will invariably break a ton of mods. After you install Midnight Ride, make sure you're only launching the game using Mod Organizer from that point on and not launching the game from Steam and you'll be fine.
>It's a good game, anon.
No, it's not. Like the previous games it's just a shitty looter shooter people think is "fallout" because it takes place in a wasteland and it ocasionally namedrops "fallout things" like ghouls and shelters. It's also an absolutely fricking awful RPG and I despise you redditors now trying to shill the same gake that got trashed for
>yes
>sarcastic (yes)
>tell me more (yes)
>no (yes)
The fact a company like Bethesda can repeatedly drop steaming turds but delusional redditors will still go "no no no its a good game" say a lot about the absolute state of gaming
>redditors
>delusional redditors
>reddit reddit
>everything is reddit
I've never seen this take on v before. I think you're the first person to come up with it. You should trademark that shit, asap.
Wow, almost like bethesda simps are exactly that.
Ma'am, you really need to calm yourself.
>is the vanilla experience good enough
no
>or do i have to spend countless hours modding this game to have the minimum amount of fun?
don't bother, they're releasing a new update april 25th that will break all the current mods
>they're releasing a new update april 25th that will break all the current mods
why do they do this shit? The game is 8 years old, anyone that is still playing it plays it modded
I think it should be free DLC, but steam allows you to choose which version number to play irrc
You should use this mod because the performance gains are ridiculous: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/74841?tab=description
just get new vegas. that's the only fallout game you should be playing past 1 and 2.
I liked the part with the glowing sea, the power armor rework, and big sexy assaultrons
but other than that its a shitty borderlands looter shooter wearing the skin of fallout that fails as an RPG, telling a good story, and a character class builder , fun to shoot stuff if you want
best fallout game, it's worth five dollars. it's on sale for three. you do the math. it's two less dollars.
fallout 4 vanilla is fine now that survival mode is an option. playing it on any other difficulty just isn't worth it imo. survival mode integrates the various gameplay elements the best, and rewards engagement with the different systems the most.
