Official content is slow but they haven't stopped development on the game at all

      Anonymous

you say that but they're definitely abandoning it.

        Anonymous

You sound like a spoiled zoomer who's never had to wait on a small team before.

          Anonymous

What small team? They Hired a bunch of people and have the cash to hire more. You're the type of moron that buys diet coke becasue you acttually think it will help you lose all that fat around your chin.

            Anonymous

            >dude just hire more people lmao
Not how software development works, especially in a post-covid world.

              Anonymous

Sure it is. You wouldn't hire random people to code important game systems. But hiring artists to create game assets to speed up development is completely reasonable. In fact, there's a shitload of companies who do just that with locum tenens postings for things like graphics, animations, world assets etc. Some low level dude could be creating all kinds of random shit and then give it over to the main devs and they could decide if they use it or not. Something like that could cost a couple thousands. Low risk high potential reward.

You just lack creative vision. Just like these devs. They don't even know what to ask someone to do

                Anonymous

The amount you think it would cost to employ random artists/developers is not realistic in most places

depends on the length of the contract but typically its around 2k per 40hrs. It could also be per task or asset produced.

            Anonymous

Not defending the unacceptably slow development here but they didn't hire a "bunch" of people, they hired 3 new developers last year and that's it. Also "just hire more people lol" isn't how it works on these kinds of things. It'd just create more problems than it'd solve unless they were to spend the time finding the right people fit for the job, which already took more than half a year with just those 3 new devs they hired.

              This.

The factorio lead dev actually wrote up an article recently about this topic.
              https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-366
Basically more devs doesn't always = faster releases. Look no further than Warhammer TW 3 and their 6 month update to change a few lines of code to make replenishment rates go up. Modders had already fixed it the day the steam workshop went live.

                Anonymous

now if only valheim devs could be a fraction as based as the factorio devs are
frick me running those dudes were insane, i'd come up for air after a few hours and be three patches behind, some of which were bugfixes that were only occurring as a result of a certain combination of third-party mods clashing

              Anonymous

see, DLCconsoomers and zoomers dont remember when entire game-worthy "mods" (DOD, Cstrike, Empires mod) were pumped put way faster than this on.. NO money. no paid staff. it was about a community building an amazing game that publishers wouldnt have the interest/balls to create. i hope they officially stop all support so modders can fully go yo town on it.
its a game that has such good potential, but they are absolutely fricking this up or simply think theyre better than it and are fantasizing about their next, bigger and better (uh huh.. right) project.
ive worked on mapping, modeling, overall game elements for mods heavily a long time ago and there is no fricking reason making another biome (more enemies, more level elements, a boss) should take this fricking long. absolute bullshit. then lol im supposed to wait another TWO YEARS? for them to finish the ice and fire biomes. moronic

        Anonymous

Absolutely nothing suggests that at all.

  3. 2 years ago

So did they frick off and abandon it or are they fixing bugs every week?
Can't blame them for breaking mods, the game is still far from finished and they're already slow enough they can't afford to constantly find workarounds to avoid breaking mods.

      Anonymous

he used fixing bugs as a way of saying fixing things nobody has ever heard of or would even care about. though they have released very minor content like a new kind of dungeon that's not anything better than the dogshit other dungeons

yeah the troll and other AI fix was stupid as frick. i miss the more direct attacks from baddies, especially trolls which made them a way more aggressive feeling threat when theyre coming right for you instead of spinning around in circles for no reason

    >>make millions overnight
This part is BS. They were marketed the shit out of it. They hit the wish-list threshold that put their game on the Steam frontpage. Every sleeper hit rides off something like this.

      Anonymous

It reached over 100,000 players on steam before the first big streamer or israelitetuber picked it up, there was hardly any marketing

        Anonymous

The wishlist threshold I described is something you have to hit is before you release the game, meaning before streamers can even play it. There was marketing out the ass. There is a GDC talk that uses it as an example for how hoarding wishlists years before a game is released can rocket it to the front page and make a sleeper hit.

Aside from the devs being slow as snails the game is still pretty good, cant thing of any other games with aesthetic building and exploration that i look fondly upon.

    what are some good mods?

      Anonymous

EpicValheim, DualWield, Epic Loot, Trader2.0 or whatever it's called, the armor and weapon mod packs are amazing in addition with those previously listed, and magic-overhaul are all fantastic.

The quality of life mods such as inventory related stuff are all very nice too.

Been a while since I played, best I have is an interior shot of the hut I had.
I need to learn to build proper bases myself, I always end up just making a small hut and some basic docks with space for a couple longships.
Was making good progress on a castle on the first /valg/ server before that suddenly dieded but I don't have any screenshots.

Gmt+2, i stream stuff on twitch, so im trying to get some people i run dnd games to play it together, since i tend to stay on and play vidya on 6+ hours, i see why not ask /vm/ - most dedicated of gamers

I'm at gmt -5. Might be hard to synchronize. I'm still interested to play if you like the prospect stuff happening when you aren't on/finding things built in the woods and I am certainly happy to be respectful of your groups progress.

yes, dont require a password. see, they could have had this be some kind of straight multiplayer game with players fighting each other, but servers limited to 10 people for some reason. of course the initial thought is: "oh well some raiders wi come when im asleep, follow some portals to my base and destroy everything", we could make this a big-brain type adventure to hide key assets. make bases more distant, hidden. this could literally be a warfare game on a massive scale. i have never seen the PvP frature utilized, except when i first DLed it and was messing around with friends.

        Anonymous

Pretty sure the low player cap is the result of the project originally be a technical expiriment around some kind of peer to peer multiplayer rather than needing a dedicated server. I know mods can raise it but man performance drops when you get large groups together.
