Why are publishers so fricking dumb? It would probably cost them $1000 total in dev fees to remove these things but they'd rather not. Why even release on steam if you're not willing to do the barest minimum?

It doesn't tho. It installs Epic Online Services for crossplay, but you don't even need an Epic account.

It's made by Dambusters, ex-Timesplitters devs (though don't let that be the selling point), they made Homefront: The Revolution. While generic I had a ton of fun exploring the red zones and the weapon modding was hilarious. Give how much I enjoyed H:TR I thought'd I'd at least play DI2 sometime for the exploration and dropkicking zombies, but Ill hold off a bit longer.

Fun fact: Homefront The Revolution also had tons of performance issues at launch. Those all went away when they removed Denuvo.

Tell the Steam reviewers that because 95% of the negative reviews are just "grrr me no like epic, and the other 5% are "game is too short"

The mid 70s range is a "jank kino" range for games like God Hand. Perfectly fine games that just exist to have mindless fun, and anybody wanting more than that was expecting way too much from a sequel to Dead Island that spent a decade in development hell
