>yes
that is how RTS games work if you aren't playing vs a disabled person. it will always feel like you are struggling to do things fast enough because there is too much for a human to manage perfectly in a good RTS
This is true, but it’s also true that the comfiest campaign levels in a lot of classic rts games are the ones where you get some breathing room to just build a base, explore, and wreck your opponent(s) when you want to. Some of the best mp maps do this, too. The best rts games are the ones that balance the mission types properly. Big reason why something like WC3 has more replay value than WC2. AoE2 is more formulaic than those, though. Part of AoE is the thrill of feeling like you’re playing the history, it’s weird.
>it’s also true that the comfiest campaign levels in a lot of classic rts games are the ones where you get some breathing room
This is a major reason I enjoy the Command and Conquer games. Especially Red Alert 2 (not YR) since most of that game is basically played at your own pace weather you are a elite schizo who can beat a level in 3 minutes or a noob who takes 3 hours.
My personal favorite mission is the one where you need to defend the pentagon while also taking back the white house. It has just the right amount of challenge while still giving you enough room to breath and unlike most defensive missions you aren't just waiting a timer to run out you actually have an objective to do.
Some town/base defense missions are done well, others not. Obviously the C&C mission where you have to shield the town and protect Dr. Moebius is ass bc Moebius is always trying to kill himself in the tiberium fields. But I really like the town defense mission in WC3 where you can do the optional quest to prevent more enemy spawn points from cropping up around you. Same with the sc2 (I know, not /vr/) night zombie mission. AoE definitely has that slower pace embedded into the game, especially the first one, which always felt more like building the civilization was as big a factor as the combat.
>maybe
what are the main differences?
it also had very active competitive scene as well

Regardless of your opinion on DE vs the original, unless you are a genuine moron you can't argue that the voice acting/cutscenes and soundtrack of DE are a major downgrade to the original.
There are mods to restore all the original sound effects, music and voice recordings. It's pretty good tbh.
I love DE but yeah this is true. There are indeed mods that revert back to the old voices and especially the music.
more like regular patches and needless civs to change things for the sake of change and for e-sports cred
still love it and am happy its still so popular tho
>e-sports cred
>AoE2
there are insufferable tryhards online but the amount of players is too small to be a really big scene with money sponsoring people.
Yeah, that's what I was getting at. There is no "e-sports" for AoE2. The current community is tiny compared to other 20-year-old games that are still played today.
Delusional.
>/vr/ is anti DE
you morons would be lmfao
>Who cares if the game plays 100 times better and you can mod in the old campaign cutscenes/voicelines/ost? it's SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT
keep crying zoomer
>WHAT, PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS??!?! HELP ME YOUTUBE XIRS
Balance patches are cancer
You have zero reason to play this over the original.
>awful resolution
>forced fullscreen
>janky-ass low framerate animations on everything
>no mod support
>playing it online is a pain in the ass today
okay
t. Alberto Barbosa
i still play Empire Earth I
It's a really beautiful game and I really like how there is still a community after so many years
Just make it not jank and it's pretty much perfect RTS.
jank is a zoomer concept they made because they simply can't handle unconventional (for their simple minds) diverations in games compared to games today
>the problem does not exist, because I said so
>also, you are a zoomer
Applause.

Are the AOE1 campaigns worth playing?
>Are the AOE1 campaigns worth playing?
Yes, they’re worth it. AOE1 has less variety, and many of the missions feel almost identical as you go on. Perfect way to play is do a few missions, the save and leave it alone for a few days when you feel it start to drag. I used to marathon it back in the day, which always got boring after a couple hours or one really involved mission. AOE doesn’t have the pace of other rts games, so you have to stagger it imo.
the remake is amazing, one of the few games i still play 25 years after release (dad gifted me an original copy back in the day in the third world)
previusly i played the hd remaster that was ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT.
i made a ui mod for small screens to play on laptop with more visible screen space (i made the panels smaller to increase clikable area) what do you think about it?
>previusly i played the hd remaster that was ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT.
What was wrong with it? I played it on release and it was fine. It pales compared to DE, but at the time, it was a marked improvement over the original.
HD was all sorts of fubar alongside the ugleh and stretched small UI, and it was obvious that the game needed a proper update for modern machines, AoE1 DE worked well as testbed so 2 DE could happen.
Best of all is that 1DE was ported to 2DE thus taking all of the QoL 2 had into 1 and Rise of Rome.
Also romans are not bad at all as a AoE2 Race, it makes them more unique compared to Byzantines and some campaigns Atilla makes use of them now as enemies, thus making some campaigns feel new and with new ways to cheese.
>HD was all sorts of fubar
How?
Funny how every "Definitive Edition" is always the worst version
Except for Aoe2.
Funny how (you) reek of a Gankertard tourist
I bet you are the OP
I think Warcraft 3 is better and hand a more significant and lasting influence on the industry and RTS genre. Debate me.
Agree, and make a thread. There’s not enough rts general talk on /vr/ anyway.
