You clearly didn't play the original you dumb Black person. In the original game you had the choice between playing a Carnby or Emily.

I mean I hope so, I think it looks pretty neat. I've been trying to go through the Alone in the Dark games to prepare for this one. I had already played 1 and The New Nightmare and enjoyed them, so I gave 2 a go and it's sort of a slog. Some ok stuff here and there, but very strangely and poorly designed overall. I'll have to just force myself through it. I'm gonna play the 2008 game and illumination as well.

Also is the GBC version of The New Nightmare worth playing? I was gonna say GBA but I checked and it's actually GBC. Weird.

      >I'm gonna play the 2008 game and illumination as well.
Skip both of those. They're both fricking awful, especially Illumination which especially isn't worth playing. They're both massive testaments to how incompetent Atari was and how poorly they handled the IP (basically 2008 was handled by a studio with almost no experience with anything except racing games with a tight schedule so needless to say it turned out awful. Illumination was basically one of their desperate last ditch efforts to make some money at little cost to avoid closure and was handled by a literal nobody studio that made one really shitty multiplayer only horde shooter that I'm pretty sure was outright removed from Steam so needless to say it was even worse)

        >basically 2008 was handled by a studio with almost no experience with anything except racing games
Oh so THATS why the New York driving part is the only good part of the game. I learn something new every day

The original was pretty groundbreaking at the time and was basically the precursor to Resident Evil but at the same time the original trilogy has aged pretty poorly. Didn't help that 2 and 3 had some pretty God awful segments (2 had that really shitty stealth section with the little girl and 3 had a really fricking horrendous platforming section). 2 and 3 did introduce some minor QoL features, mainly not having every single fricking consumable having a useless empty version and I'm pretty sure they both did away with the inventory limit

I'm not sure why but the use of hollywood actors in this game is not offensive.
The only thing that bothers me are the animations for the enemies, kind janky.

I think it's because it's a smaller game, so the fact it actually has some big name actors is more surprising rather than expected. Reminds me of Felix the Reaper, this small little puzzle game that has Patrick Stewart doing all the narration.

That seems doable, since the original models are a handful of polygons and a paint bucket tool.

Ok, that was funny. Seems this one tries to capture the feeling of the old games. Can be pretty nice if they step up the story and investigation part without becoming a movie.

Its just a cinematic story game right?

I preordained the collectors edition of the 2008 game and never played past the intro because of a game breaking bug. It seemed a but shut but I might try if it's on Xbone backwards compatability

Tried the demo and there literally not a single piece of gameplay in it. I don't know why they released that

      Anonymous

It was meant to parallel Jack in the Dark, which was a promotional piece for the original Alone in the Dark 2. But the prologue demo doesn't really explain itself in that way, so people who don't know that probably don't see the point of it.
It's not really the same thing, Jack in the dark has a different story, but I'd call the prologue an improvement. At least it's related to the main story and gives you a bit of intrigue. Jack in the Dark is about rescuing Santa Claus from a toy shop, which has literally nothing to do with the main game and it's never brought up.

Its so ironic alone in the dark 2 and 3 mirror resident evil sequels evolutions with john carnaby going full john maclane punching and shooting mobster zombies in the second game intro

The only geuinely good one is AITD4: The new nightmare. Straight up solid RE clone with good graphics and atmosphere. Get the GOG version, all console ports are trash.

Dont know about this reboot but Carnby's redesign is terrible, looks like a fat ass redditor stereotype

homie what the hell are you talking about, this is my first time posting in a thread about this game
        I ain't your personal boogeyman
I'm simply mad we missed out on wacky incomprehensible lovecraft shenanigans and crazy color palettes in favor of even more zombies (the original already had enough) you just shoot at in brown environments

      >everything unique about the original's gameplay
Like fricking what? It's a pretty normal adventure game with action elements and archaic controls, using something similar to the verb system found in old point and clicks but making it even worse because now you have to navigate a separate menu to activate those. How unique.

Virtually everything about AITD1 has aged so poorly that doing a 1:1 remake would just be a recipe for failure.

As much as I love the original AITD (my very first horror game) I don't trust any modern western developer enough to make a good game without any woke nonsense.

I'll wait and see what the consensus is before I buy it.

    >low budget game wastes money hiring hollywood celebs
Makes no sense. They would have been better off using literal who face models like Resident Evil.

  27. 3 months ago

There's a growing "classic survival horror revival" on the indie scene and if the AITD IP holders had any smarts, they would have tapped into that instead of trying to chase after RE2R but with a AA jank budget, meaning it's doomed to failure. THQ are fricking morons, I'm surprised they're somehow still around.

    Go play Alisa instead.

They are especially stupid for wasting money hiring two celebs for a game like this

      >muh indie game

      Anonymous

Alisa was kind of shitty due to some moronic design decisions
      >No auto aim.
There's a reason the RE series introduced this. Manual aiming with fixed cameras is a pain
      >No bullet puffs/blood splatters
By that I mean particles of smoke, dust, etc. when you hit a wall or splatter of blood when you hit an enemy. Makes the lack of auto aim especially annoying because if the game had them it'd at least give you an idea of how much you need to adjust your aim if you're missing
      >no real stagger/pain animations for enemies
they basically just stop in place for a split second when you shoot them. Kind of fricks up any real sense of impact your weapons have and kind of goes back to the previous complaints. It had a creative setting but that's basically the nicest thing I can say about it.
