Religious symbols in rpgs

Why so many RPGs use religious symbols as items or demon names as npcs? Is it lack of creativity or does devs think referencing those makes the game deeper? It especially pissed me off at blacksouls, there was no need to put a single hidden npc using real life demon name, literally a way to stop some people from playing your game. Personalny i would just translate "greed" or smth to greek and change a letter, would make for better symbolism for what the character is. I can understand item like cross being anti-evil weapon but my point stands. Your thoughts? Pic not related

The "religious symbols" you're complaining about (christian ones in particular) are just one of many tropes in the fantasy genres. Other tropes include the same races (Elf, Dwarve, Orc etc.) and same greek elemental magic types (Fire, Ice, Water, Earth). Religious stuff like demons or "holy" magic aren't any different.
Also you shouldn't be surprised something as superstitious and well-known as religion is in the *fantasy* genre, given that the concept of magic itself is based in superstition and religion; maybe the overabundance of Christian religion may be weird but religion itself shouldn't be. Would you have the same reaction if they used Islamic symbolism? Hindu symbolism?

The vast majority of "demon" names are named after deities in non-Christian religions, most of their names aren't present in the bible. Just in demonology books written by them afterwards. A personal theory of mine is that it was an attempt to document non-Christian religions and practices.

From a Christian perspective, all non-Christian/pagan deities or entities are considered to be demons or angels who tricked humans into believing that they are deities.

From a non-Christian perspective, it was a ploy for Christians to criminalize their non-Christians so that their religion would be the majority. If you've read the writings of early Christian individuals or groups, they constantly attacked non-Christian/pagan people who were into astrology and mathematics constantly.

Anyway, it's not bad. It's not like if you're going to draw pentegrams after learning about their names. I don't think anyone did after hearing fairy and elf.

also this, fantasy is lifted wholesale from religion

If you've ever seen a big tree in any JRPG, it's a reference to Yggdrasil from Norse Mythology. I don't think it's done to indoctrinate people, it's just that you can do a lot with pagan religions without sparking culture war stuff or people being grievously offended by it.

I turned out alright after playing them, but don't feel obligated to play games that disturb you. (They made me attend church daily and made me more active with confessions and charity more than anything lol) You have millions of other RPGs that don't have their premise nor content.

The reason why they're recommended on here is because they're dark-souls inspired, have taboo content like rape/blasphemy, and run well on toasters.

          >If you've ever seen a big tree in any JRPG, it's a reference to Yggdrasil from Norse Mythology
The idea of a World Tree is found in many religions, all over the place. Trees being the thing that connects the heavens and the earth and as a symbol for how life is built on top of death. Ancient people weren't dumb.

The point is that it a lot of fantasy RPGs derive from non-Christian religions.

I have read some fantasy where there was no religion, no gods etc. (there was magic though) and since then I've developed aversion to any kind of media (games movies, literature) where they bring use these religious tropes.
It's almost impossible in todays world to find a secular environment that does not have any symbolism and references to religion. Those game creators probably don't understand how strong an effect their environment has on their creative thoughts.

Referances are usually put in because the developer thought something sounded/looked cool like Neon Genesis Evangelion or/and it would bring more sales to referance other things like how Black SOULS put a armored knight sitting at a bonfire and SOULS in the title so associate it with Dark Souls and buy it thinking its a Dark Souls fangame but it has nothing to do with Dark Souls actually its just a turnbased rpgmaker porn game with no original assets besides the porn which isnt even good.

Why are you talking about games you didn't even play? BS is chock full of references to the entire trilogy and other fromsoft titles, on top of doing a pretty god job at emulating the feel of DS combat in a turn based system. It would be nothing but a DS fangame if it didn't do its own thing right at the end.

It becomes more than just DS mixed with fairy tales and reveals its original story. Though saying it only does so at the end is disingenuous, because it keeps alluding to it throughout the whole game and the ending is just a culimination of it. It's very well thought out. It was nice to look back on it and see all the details you didn't pay attention to at first end up being more meaningful than you've thought.

Amanita Muscaria is highly poisonous in low dosages it can cause hallucinations and in high dosages it can cause DEATH eating Amanita Muscaria is not recommended.
If you want to eat some mushrooms then go eat Agaricus bisporus or Macrolepiota procera instead.

actual moron. Go play whatever slop you want fricker. Games should be able to have religious undertones and meanings, cause they have a fricking story. Its almost like. . . The religious symbols are supposed to draw connections to their story so you can understand it in a way related to the real world?

Fricking moron. I bet you think the bible is 100% literal and not full of symbolism and metaphors.

    >Is it lack of creativity or does devs think referencing those makes the game deeper?
If you weren't a friendless loser with no grasp on basic concepts such as empathy you'd understand references aren't necessarily some peawiener wheel from the author's side.
In most cases people put references to other works or whatever to make people interested in said work and check it out, more often than not references exist as a way to pay respect to those works or traditions, or to make parallels, only a sociopath would immediately default such a simple practice to lack of creativity or some pretense of depth, such a comment sheds more light on your distorted mindset than the actual human condition.

Because humanity (especially creatives in vidoe games or the in trash genres of fantasy and sci-fi) are not that creative and most of our concepts that we even can think about are rooted in either the pre-modern past or in modernity. There is nothing else. Nothing else to derive shapes and forms from.

Read Plato. Human applied ideas (like drawing, painting and such) are very rarely original.
