The early 2000's was the worst period for anime artstyles because everybody was switching to digital animation and they all spent years stumbling through the transition. The characters were often janky as frick and nearly every single show was marred with horrible CG
Say what you will about the writing and content of 2010's anime and beyond but at least by then they've gotten a handle on how to do digital art, have defined a style of their own that compliments of the digital format and have (mostly) learned how to incorporate CG.

Parrying and getting a witch time-esqe dodge roll is fun, but I do really wish it wasn't so prevalent. The newer Ys games just arent very hard or require much thought when you can just spam roll around enemies and bosses then punish them for it. In the Napishtim games you didn't have a roll at all so you had to properly position yourself when it came to enemy attacks. In the newer Ys titles you can wail on a boss and then just spam dodge roll. Even if you don't get flash move from it you at least still avoided the attack. I'm not really liking the direction that Ys X is taking (Souls type games worked best when the point of them was that they were different and not the norm) but I hope they at ;least fix the flash system because it requires no thought and just rewards playing sloppy.

It is satisfying on some level, but it makes all boss battles boil down to the same thing.
Instead of learning enemy patterns and how to deal with each, you learn the timing for pressing guard.
As for X, I'm going to try to be open-minded about it. At least I hope they do away with the raid battles and don't slap a trading system or map exploration system onto a game where it doesn't make sense (what flimsy reasoning did they give for it in IX, again? I guess mapping stuff out makes sense for an adventurer either way, but don't pretend this is Celceta or VIII).

https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/06/25/ys-series-35th-anniversary-interview-with-series-producer-kondo/ >the party, skill, and dodge/guard systems in use since Seven will likely not be returning >interviewer points out how there are now players attracted to Ys’ story, who might not be good at action games, and Kondo acknowledges this, but also says that it seems that the majority of Ys fans are still action game fans
And 7/Celceta and 8/9 were nowhere similar, 7/Celceta had a dogshit system while 8/9 was actually good. There were only two games with that system. Frick off and die with your wahhhhh party system whining already.
no they want dark souls
https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/06/25/ys-series-35th-anniversary-interview-with-series-producer-kondo/ >more of a focus 1-on-1 fights with the player sizing up the opponent >more “Souls-like” combat, >making an “Ys-style Souls-like”.
At least Ys Seven looked somewhat decent. Ys Celceta and IX had awful character design. Looks like generic trails trash. I miss when Ys actually had a distinct artstyle.
Yes but a lot of her emotes were pretty useless and could be summed up with the ones used in Evolution. She doesn't really lose out on anything in that regard.
yeah its not like the games story and important points don't work with the new art, but i still count it as another notch against it. i like the variety, even if some of them could be considered redundant.
Left looks way better, so you prove the point that you supposedly argued against. Except if left is the remaster, in which case you're correct (but you're not, are you?).
original lighting is fine, that scene is supposed to be bleak. Lolo glowing with a shitty looking fake "hero light" makes her look ridiculously out of place.
Why not literally port the originals?
I guess I get that advertising remakes gets more attention, but if the remake is going to look worse just give us native ports of the game you already made.
One looks great and is full of personality while the other has gone through the remaster and modern anime filter. Don't really understand the thought process behind remasters since there's a very clear pattern of sterilizing environments every time. Everything that looks intentionally slightly run down will look like it was built yesterday in a remaster. Fricking baffling.
estelle is supposed to be a homely kind of girl, not too good looking. she basically looks like a model on the right. of course, falcom threw all of that away anyways by making her a supermodel in cs4 as well
Of course, it's a made up buzzword because "The new thing is bad but I can't explain why" is not a very solid arguement.
If objective quality doesn't matter and all you care about is people putting their heart into it then go to deviant art.
Alright, let me level with you then, Anon. In terms of "objective quality" (something which is kind of nebulous in art, but can still be valid), the art on the left is a hand drawn art product which has been photocopied, whereas the product on the right is a digital art product.
The art on the left has worse anatomy around the hip area and feet to be sure, and the arms are misproportioned with respect to each other. The art on the right has fairly consistent proportions.
The art on the left has smooth shading, and I personally appreciate the variety of skin tones seen on the character, and the way their knees are a little scuffed to suggest that they work on their hands and feet. Their limbs are a little cartoonishly thick with respect to their thin waist, which I also think looks charming and suggests the character is slightly rugged. The hair color on the left is also a duller shade of brown and contains a beautiful variety of lighting, to accentuate the highlights and lowlights.
The anatomy and clothing on the right are extremely consistent as to look professional, but the character doesn't possess any of the unique characteristics that set them apart save for their clothing and hair. The hair is colored fairly flatly in a different shade of brown than the original, save for a shine across the center. Finally, the character has very flat two-tone shading across the entire character, which leaves them looking very much like a cartoon character (which they are) and less like an artwork you'd see in an instruction manual or physical media like an artbook or the cover of a VHS tape.
That is why I prefer the art on the left to the art on the right. There's also an element of the artstyle on the right being saturated in media at the moment, whereas the artstyle on the left is of a bygone era, so it appears more 'unique', even if the artstyle on the left was once just as overdone.

Yeah I went back to reread it and kind of noticed it. Don't know why I wrote it that way.
You'd have a point if the original's anatomy was Deviantart tier, but it's not, it's just simple. Placing the pole between her breasts to show they've upped the size and giving her better knees doesn't matter if you manage to make the anime face far less capable of expression.
>strikes a pose that exude girlish behavior >thin as a twig, could break if you just bump into her, same with her staff >hair just vanishes into gehenna, never to return >breasts are in the way, makes the use of her staff impracticable
Nah.
Zero is legit on par with Sky for most of the game until the final act where it throws all the cool mafia and political shit down the drain for "LOL ACTUALLY IT WAS DEMONNSSSSS THE PILLSSSS".
Ao is just a fricking mess. All the villains are horrible. The only good part of that game is the trade conference.
Falcom went all out in the soul department for Sky then just burnt out.

No, that part was bad too. They had the chance to make Dieter like a Richard who had actually found The Aureole, but instead they just made him a raving lunatic.
See instead of actually going for the more interesting scenario and having SSS be the 'bad guys' who have to rob Crossbell of its independence by seizing away a superweapon from a man who just wants Crossbell to keep its independence, they instead make Dieter insane and have him plan to take over the entire world, thus freeing the SSS of any responsibility and turning him into a poor villain.
And don't get me started on everything after him in the Mirage Tree. A complete fricking joke. Mariabell and Wald are a contender for the worst villains in the series.

You can also do this with shows, movies and comics.

Left really isn’t bad knowing how awful these Twitter troony artists can be
You can make the same fricking webm with movies, old anime, Western cartoons, and live action TV.
These are all common cinematography.
Unless you unironically believe that modern anime invented "two characters standing apart" or "characters looking directly at the camera" or "characters pointing" or "swirly eyes"
It's crazy how much better the left side is. All of the colors mesh together much more naturally, there is more detail, and it doesn't look like there are 100 fluorescent tubes just off screen on every ceiling.
Traditional artists moving to digital still retain the techniques they learned as a traditional artist, digital only artists skip a lot of that kind of shit so their stuff looks a lot cheaper.
Also, professional traditionally trained artists have a lot of the chaff filtered out because its a lot harder to do then digital art so being a digital artist has a way lower barrier to entry.
It's crazy how much better the right side is. All of the colors are actually nice, has less ugly blemishes on the faces, and it doesn't look like there is a gray layer at 50% opacity on every drawing.
pic rel annoys me, i nthe original it all fades gently to black to the point where i don't even notice everything floating in a void anymore, but the evo version fricks it up
He probably means non Shonen anime. He doesn't realize that swirly eyes are more indicative of the tone or style instead of the the era. Was there any Seinen with swirly eyes? Somehow I doubt it unless there was like 1 single instance. I don't know enough about it to really have a conversation about it either way. He might have also meant 80's instead of 90's.
Why do you underage homosexuals keep coming here to larp as crusty old jaded boomers? It's like i'm reading the youtube comments section of a Queen song every day.
So what's even the context of the music track? Both versions sound like battle tracks, and while the remaster arrange definitely changes the tone and feel (reminds me of some Cave shmup stuff) I can't say I strictly hate it without further knowledge of the game itself.
Maybe I'm missing something but don't you need to know Japanese in order to play evo? How can someone who accomplished something 90% of Ganker wish they did but hasn't be a tard?
>have you never heard of patches
I have which is why I said "maybe I'm missing something" as in, maybe there's a patch I'm not aware of. Pay more attention when you read.
-d. EVO is especially bad. Not because of the new art style, but because the original game had some 30 different expressions for Estelle, and the EVO versions cut it down to around 6.
I know everyone loves the rustic look of the original, I do too. But the remake art actually makes it stylistically match with the rest of the franchise. Original Sky looks like it takes place 100 years before Zero/Cold Steel instead of about 5 or so.

Anyone know why? Seems like they would have the original assets to just upscale some textures or often artist original files are high res anyway. Seems like more work to redo it entirely.
because the evolution series was done by a israelite company (chara-ani), not by falcom. The thought they had to do redo the artwork as well since they didn't think that a voice overhaul alone would be enough to make fans of the series double dip.
Ah so just trying to do enough to make it so people re-buy the same game.
Honestly if the second version came out first I don't mind its looks it just seems a waste when the first version is also fine. So its just a cash grab.
Yes, it's also why you have to illegally obtain the void mods that people have posted in here. Chara-ani refuses (allegedly according to xseed) to hand over the rights because of the voice actors or something.
Got one of my friends into Ys before XSeed started putting them on steam. He refuses to touch any of the new ones (read: Seven onwards), as he views them as completey unrecognizable to the older entries, trying to court the Kiseki/waifugay audience.
Depends on when you got into Ys.
Most westerners first Ys was VIII since that's the one that got really popular.
For the overwhelming majority of people who have been playing them for a long time, its far more common to see them say that their favorites are I & II, OiF, or Origin.
What got me into Y's in the first place was seeing 30% of Humanity is Dead. https://youtu.be/V6p36CRpayY
as well as https://youtu.be/0Z8lLMi-IEw?t=265 popping up in my recommended when I was searching for more info on Ys.

I played the evo version on vita and it was alright. Maybe it's because I never played the original but I don't really give a frick about the portraits. I care more for the soundtrack but you can swap to the classic one.
I imagine there would be 100x more whining about this if the remakes were translated.
>though Cold Steel 1 still had great music
Both Cold Steel 1 and 2 have great music.
It's from Cold Steel 3 onwards that you get "Falcom music fatigue" and tracks start sounding like worse versions of tracks from previous games, you hear similar licks and riffs, and Singa starts raping the soundtrack with his out of tune guitar.
Of course there's still great tracks in 3, 4, Hajimari and Kuro, but there's a shit ton of filler, and even terrible tracks.
I can't think of any terrible tracks in any Trails game from Cold Steel 2 and prior (save for Evo tracks), and even some of the most random, pointless tracks are still pretty memorable in their own way.
I think there's a noticeable quality loss between CS1 and CS2, with the best music in CS2 actually being remixes of CS1's released outside the soundtrack.
I don't know, I really don't see it.
I feel like the OST quality loss happens with CS3, I think CS3 was also around the time there was some inner turmoil going on with the sound team too, but I'm not an expert on that.
>with the best music in CS2 actually being remixes of CS1's released outside the soundtrack.
That's funny because that reminds me how the best track in Cold Steel 4 is a fricking Super Arrange that was released back in 2006.
I think CS1 has some pretty great town themes too.

I love CS1's Heimdallr theme and I love how they refuse its leitmotif so many times throughout the Cold Steel series, and then the slow realization that not just Heimdallr's leitmotif, but Osbourne's leitmotif. When you realize that, just the music of Heimdallr in CS1 tells a story on its own.

It is pretty kino. I believe it's the first time you hear Osborne's leitmotif in the series too, in fact the music that surrounds everything Osborne's involved with his his leitmotif. Heimdallr's theme fits the bustling of a large city while also incorporating his leitmotif to remind you that Osborne shaped this city and made it as great as it is.
In Cold Steel 2, when you're in the final dungeon, as Osborne's theme kicks in at 3:33, is one of the most kino musical moments in any Trails game, and fitting too since the final dungeon is literally in Heimdallr.

The motiff debuted in the 3rd and I think the first time you suppose to hear it is when Olivier does his flower thing to Osbourne on the airship. However, the game reuses it for the lead up to the final dungeon. Falcom is moronic like that. Kind of like how they gave Richard the same theme as Loewe.
I like 4's final dungeon music in the context of the final boss more than the final dungeon. Even if the final boss was very stupid conceptually when they forewent a potentially better and interesting ending for the absolute pile of shit one we got, I loved the design of that thing.

>Loved Trails in the Sky >Hated Cold steel
I can't be the only one suffering with high expectations for a series like this. I was promised a great overarching story and it just fell short.
As far as I know, the Evolution versions of the Sky and Crossbell games weren't made by Falcom themselves - they were ports commissioned by Chara-Ani in an effort to shill the series to Vitagays as much as humanly possible. Hence, there was a change in art style, a noticeable upswing in in-game fan service, etc.
The Evolution version of Sky 3rd also produced one of the most confusing and tone deaf pieces of fan service merchandise I've ever seen for a video game. Pic related.
Yeah, you got a chronologically inaccurate Estelle, a dead girl, and someone who REALLY doesn't need fan service art due to the subject matter of her story.

Well, it certainly wasn't a staple for Sky and trying to inject fan service into it was stupid. Nobody wanted or needed that shit.
I personally prefer the Evolution character portraits, but I can definitely see why a lot of people prefer the original one.
Now, the change in the environment is inexcusable, it looks way to squeaky clean in Evolution.
Trails in the Sky pc + Evo mod is still the best way to play the game, mostly because it keeps the graphics from the og version and adds voice acting that is actually pretty good.
Evolution's art quality also noticeably degrades between games. Sure, they all have this generic early 2010s A1 Pictures look, but the level of QUALITY goes up with each entry - to the point where you get weird shit like uniboob Canone hear in 3rd Evo.

That's what you once had to do, but these days there are overlay programs that can put the spreadsheet's translation on the screen. I think someone even managed to hack large chunks of that spreadsheet into the game's actual text.
I don't know the specifics, though. I've never used either myself and I'm probably gonna skip Hajimari anyway.
There's a text overlay program that you need to feed an excel spreadsheet that contains all the english text. It was made so PS4 players can play the game translated with a capture card.
But since reverie came out on PC people modded the text into the game itself so you don't have to do that anymore. You just overwrite the files and you're good to go.
thanks frens, I couldn't find any direct translation patch but it's late here so I'll try again tomorrow

I played the original version on PC recently. Why the hell does this game need a remaster? It is totally acceptable, fits the resolution and frame rate of the monitor correctly and the graphics hold up very well.
XSeed's PC versions are custom builds that cobble together features from several versions of the game, as well as adding their own features like turbo mode. They're not really representative of the game's Japanese releases. The original PC releases of the Sky games in Japan were VERY barebones by comparison.

Writing was bad, but it was a much better game than 8.
>It looks like Falcom wants the Kingdom Hearts audience.
I've been saying that for years. KEEP MUH YS OUT YO MOUTHFRICKIN KINGDOM HEARTS MOUTH!
>Parrying and getting a witch time-esqe dodge roll is fun, but I do really wish it wasn't so prevalent.
Tokyo Xanadu gets everything that the new Ys games didn't right. They should have just made TX their party based ARPG instead of Ys.
https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/06/25/ys-series-35th-anniversary-interview-with-series-producer-kondo/
>the party, skill, and dodge/guard systems in use since Seven will likely not be returning
>interviewer points out how there are now players attracted to Ys’ story, who might not be good at action games, and Kondo acknowledges this, but also says that it seems that the majority of Ys fans are still action game fans
And 7/Celceta and 8/9 were nowhere similar, 7/Celceta had a dogshit system while 8/9 was actually good. There were only two games with that system. Frick off and die with your wahhhhh party system whining already.
Ys must go back to solo Adol adventuring.
no they want dark souls
https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/06/25/ys-series-35th-anniversary-interview-with-series-producer-kondo/
>more of a focus 1-on-1 fights with the player sizing up the opponent
>more “Souls-like” combat,
>making an “Ys-style Souls-like”.
good. gaming would objectively be way better if every developer wanted the kingdom hearts audience.
At least Ys Seven looked somewhat decent. Ys Celceta and IX had awful character design. Looks like generic trails trash. I miss when Ys actually had a distinct artstyle.
And it looked like generic early 00s anime before, so it makes perfect sense
Where'd the rug go?
to discord to spam his SHITTED garbage
They peed on the fricking rug.
It really, y'know, tied the room together.
I like you guys
It literally tied the room together.
No more rugs, Will.
>in game graphics are worse
>but the anime art is updated to a modern style
the new anime artwork has way less expressions iirc, it sucks because estelle is a very emotive character
Yes but a lot of her emotes were pretty useless and could be summed up with the ones used in Evolution. She doesn't really lose out on anything in that regard.
yeah its not like the games story and important points don't work with the new art, but i still count it as another notch against it. i like the variety, even if some of them could be considered redundant.
>the new anime artwork has way less expressions iirc
I think that's why he said "updated to a modern style"
Mods will fix it.
90 > 00 > 80 > 20 > 10
20 has too low contrast in the eyes.
bad artist
good at pulling off the generic artstyle of the 00s , but can't pull off the generic artstyle of the last 2 decades well
2020 looks the best despite 80s/90s having a ton of soul. Eat it soulgays.
Estelle still sort of looks like Estelle but Jesus what did they do to Joshua?
It's so fricking weird that they made his hair purple when his black hair is supposed to be his most striking feature.

Left looks way better, so you prove the point that you supposedly argued against. Except if left is the remaster, in which case you're correct (but you're not, are you?).
Left is original.
I GENUINELY, no joke hope you die a slow painful death, if you think the right is not utter dogshit
D.
Just look at every atlus game they remaster. Studios just can't help but ruin their old games, usually out of laziness and greed.
modern anime style (2008+) was a big mistake.
Heck even korean/western fanart is much better than japanese these days.

They looking at you, anon, in disbelief.
whats the problem here? looks great to me
The lighting.
Also, look at the background and general ambience of the situation. The colors and saturation on the bottom throw it off severely.
Bad bait.
thanks for the reply
I HATE INDIANS I HATE INDIANS I HATE INDIANS
I'm conflicted
On one hand, there's an absolute lack of shadows
On the other, the lighting in the OG is pretty fricking ugly
original lighting is fine, that scene is supposed to be bleak. Lolo glowing with a shitty looking fake "hero light" makes her look ridiculously out of place.
any other comparison shots?
why is it so fricking bright
The first scene of Leorina and Tat on the plane is fricking terrible in the remaster
>No lighting
vs
>Really fricking bad lighting
There's no winning here.
any shots of baladium or the final level of 1?
Both of them look fricking terrible to be fair. It's like picking the lesser of two evils
Looks to happy on the remaster
her face has no depth in the bottom one
Why not literally port the originals?
I guess I get that advertising remakes gets more attention, but if the remake is going to look worse just give us native ports of the game you already made.
In Klonoa's case that would be a day 1 buy for me
I don't say this often, but
SOVL vs SOULLESS
which one is the remaster
One looks great and is full of personality while the other has gone through the remaster and modern anime filter. Don't really understand the thought process behind remasters since there's a very clear pattern of sterilizing environments every time. Everything that looks intentionally slightly run down will look like it was built yesterday in a remaster. Fricking baffling.
framerate is better, yes!
tfw played the superiour Switch version with the original fire and other effects
And they could never be bothered to fix the audio issues in anal rodeo.
Why change the artstyle? Left is so much better, I wish anime would go back to that style instead of the shit we get today.
They hired different artist
I hate new style anime so fricking much.
Be thankful Estelle kept her hair vents. Nobody can say the same thanks to Arcueid becoming another Saberface with soft billowy hair.
Why do you hate THE NEW anime style?
The true definition of Soul vs Soulless
she doesn't have a winning pose in EVO?
No matter what Estelle is Bestelle
Left is better
I still like estelle, but Renne took the first spot
She did become a fine young lady
B^U
Right's boobies are bigger so it's an improvement.
estelle is supposed to be a homely kind of girl, not too good looking. she basically looks like a model on the right. of course, falcom threw all of that away anyways by making her a supermodel in cs4 as well
She isn't supposed to look too good in Sky, but she was always meant to grow up looking like a stacy as an adult.
I don't care
If the game doesn't make me want to CUM while playing it it is worthless as an artform.
A girl without boobs to CUM over may as well be a beige rectangle.
>estelle is supposed to be a homely kind of girl, not too good looking
She's the prototypical tom boy who doesn't care about looks but is actually hot, this isn't hard.
literally soul vs soulless
Except for the hair the right is more detailed and has much better anatomy.
You don't understand SOUL. If anatomy is all you want, go take some photos of chicks and put those in your game instead.
Good post friend, but it was rather strange that you only referring to Estelle with terms like their, they and them without once using she or her.
The drawlet didn't even shade the face.
>strikes a pose that exude girlish behavior
>thin as a twig, could break if you just bump into her, same with her staff
>hair just vanishes into gehenna, never to return
>breasts are in the way, makes the use of her staff impracticable
wouldn't become her brother/10
big breasts never slowed anyone down in kiseki
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
These are both bad for different reasons.
The face and hair and pose are worse but you're insane if you don't think that the body isn't a big improvement.
They took her fricking soul
She fricking lost her healthy legs
I want to see her crap
I don’t have the comparison picture but what they did to Blade Runner was so bad it was impressive
I gotchu senpai. just smooth my shit up.
Jesus Christ how horrifying
Reminds me of the PC version of FF8.
Pretty much the same 3d model-mixed with low-res 2D background stark contrast.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!??!?
It wasn't Falcom. It was Kadokawa.
I honestly don't have much faith in Falcom when the only good game they've made since the 3rd is Ys 8.
But zero and ao are better than 3rd but a mile.
Falcom went all out in the soul department for Sky then just burnt out.
>
>missed the entire part where dieter seizes power because of corrupt pedophile politicians
Nah dude Azure was kino. Lloyd breaking out of prison will never, and I mean never, be topped.
>LOL ACTUALLY IT WAS DEMONNSSSSS THE PILLSSSS".
you didn't play zero
I did, cope.
>weapon's pressed into the crevice of her boobs
How very subtle.
So much sameface too.
simbly lovin' the generic soulless anime faces on the right
>weebs ruined animus
You mean otakus. Anime studios follow the money and otakus are pretty much the only people paying for this shit. I don't think your average weeb purchased anything to support their favorite anime kek.
You can also do this with shows, movies and comics.
Cinematography a d composition are a thing and repetition is inevitable. It's up to the audience to look for the good shit, support it and demand more like it rather than obsessing with the bad.
right looks better and it's how I played it, thank god for PC mods
new animation is better
rolling eyes are cute
I watched around 5 or 6 of the shows in this gif and they were great
otakus are the reason why the genre thrived in the first place
Lots of animators and mangakas were otakus, Gainax was built by otakus.
If "anime is dying" (or changing) is because of amerimutts and china forcing their politics and LGBT shit, either by funding it with netflix money or cancelling it by the most minor problem like all the streaming services do
Also, in japanese otaku forums they always shit on ポリコレ (political correction) while on the other hand, LGBTrannies seem to be obsessed with old anime like ranma and sailor moon
TL;DR if you hate otaku anime, you are a troony
>TL;DR if you hate otaku anime, you are a troony
Other way around, moron. Trannies are otaku as frick.
wrong, troony
the chances of old and sterile shinji-clone faces anime coming back is as low as you becoming a woman, sorry
Nu-Anime is still shit. Cope, seethe and dilate.
say what you want about nu-anime, but you if you hate it, then you are the troony
I don't make the rules
I like the left more
Sorry bro you need to take your HRT now.
The right's head and eyes are too big, looks goofy.
>troony takes an image with Uzaki drawn derpily
>You eat it up
See she looks fine here. Doesn't matter though, like I said in this
image the left looks better. Even you seem to agree because you said she's drawn derpily
you dont understand the point of art.
The look is supposed to convey the character at first glance.
7year old mentality -> child face
is actually older and not a kid -> give her huge breasts
Its the same shit as giving the though dude giga muscles and one scared eye. Not realistic but conveys his character at first glance.
Unironically like the left way more, I've always hated how she looks with the bug eyes, bowl cut and stupid random fang
you will be culled
They're on the right track but they don't understand anatomy well enough to express the idea. They're trying to make the eyes more reasonable and make her limbs proportionate. Overall a good attempt from a literal child.
>this is DISGUSTING she looks like a CHILD
>so I added a cartoon frog to make her look more adult
At least she has no stretch marks.
Left really isn’t bad knowing how awful these Twitter troony artists can be
I'm not a troony, I barely even like anime aside from the few I watched as a kid.
>right looks better and it's how I played it, thank god for PC mods
>le fotm e-girltrash reaction pic
You unironically have to go back
>reddit may cry
ok, start crying then
You can make the same fricking webm with movies, old anime, Western cartoons, and live action TV.
These are all common cinematography.
Unless you unironically believe that modern anime invented "two characters standing apart" or "characters looking directly at the camera" or "characters pointing" or "swirly eyes"
A lot of these are pretty different in the art style.
Anime has always been derivative and copypaste generic, it's just that today it's also blander than an accountant.
True
where is the fate version of this with the sabers
how do generic anime girls like this even appeal to anyone
All the anime in that webm were made by the same 3 studios so its not a surprise.
I’VE SEEN FOOTAGE
Anime usually has one or two watchable shows per season. Rest are trash.
Westoids make a watchable TV show once every 10 years or so.
>maybe they won't notice the distinct artstyles if I go through them really fast!
who do you think you're fooling with this?
It's crazy how much better the left side is. All of the colors mesh together much more naturally, there is more detail, and it doesn't look like there are 100 fluorescent tubes just off screen on every ceiling.
Traditional artists moving to digital still retain the techniques they learned as a traditional artist, digital only artists skip a lot of that kind of shit so their stuff looks a lot cheaper.
Also, professional traditionally trained artists have a lot of the chaff filtered out because its a lot harder to do then digital art so being a digital artist has a way lower barrier to entry.
its literally over.
>left
>emotionless canned stances
>right
>expressive face that takes practice and effort to master
Fuark mirin arms on the right, Routine?
8 hours dilating every day
What's that
left is animator artist for cuphead game and right is artist for cuphead netflix series.
It's crazy how much better the right side is. All of the colors are actually nice, has less ugly blemishes on the faces, and it doesn't look like there is a gray layer at 50% opacity on every drawing.
I'm confused, is left the updated version? everything is better on the left.
Left is the original version.
looks generic and boring
makes me yawn instinctively
what the frick, this is Trails right? I was thinking of playing it, is the PC version this soulless updated version or the original?
original. but if you get into this shit you're in for a ride if you stick it out
Not that anon, but I genuinely do want to give this series a chance. But I dunno if I can commit to the slow burn.
Just play it. If you got bored at the prologue chapter, then it's not for you.
I'm so glad i played the steam version.
i hope left is the remaster?

You're not serious, are you?
He probably means non Shonen anime. He doesn't realize that swirly eyes are more indicative of the tone or style instead of the the era. Was there any Seinen with swirly eyes? Somehow I doubt it unless there was like 1 single instance. I don't know enough about it to really have a conversation about it either way. He might have also meant 80's instead of 90's.

modern anime art styles are so fricking shit
-d. EVO is especially bad. Not because of the new art style, but because the original game had some 30 different expressions for Estelle, and the EVO versions cut it down to around 6.
EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW
I know everyone loves the rustic look of the original, I do too. But the remake art actually makes it stylistically match with the rest of the franchise. Original Sky looks like it takes place 100 years before Zero/Cold Steel instead of about 5 or so.
Right literally has crappier texture work.

anime trannies really are cultists (not weebs playing japanese videogames, i mean the actual anime trannies in this thread)
I wanna play these games but I can't even tell how many games there are or the order in which to play them
Trails in the Sky FC
Trails in the Sky SC
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Trails From Zero (Zero no kiseki) (search for torrent of geofront translation)
Trails to Azure (Ao no kiseki) search for torrent of geofront translation
Trails of Coldsteel 1, 2,3, and 4
Trails of Reverie (Hajimari no Kiseki) (you can search for a torrent of a translation of this as well).
Trails into/of Dark Passage(Kuro No kiseki)
That's 11 games. Sky is the Sky arc, 3 games. Zero+Azure are the crossbell arc, two games. Coldsteel Arc is 5 games (let's all be honest, reverie is mostly just a 5th coldsteel game). Kuro is the newest game and newest arc that takes place in calvard. The 2nd calvard game is coming out soon. You should play in release order unless you're gay.
cheers anons
11 games is quite the journey but I'll save these posts and take it one at a time
it'll be nice to be able to participate in these threads in the future
The Sky games aren't nearly as long as the later games. They don't feel that long once you're entranced by the story and lore imo. Have fun.
take your time, the length is part of the appeal
11 so far, only 9 have been localized.
Release order, and recommended play order:
Sky > Zero/Azure > Cold Steel > Hajimari > Kuro
If you are adamant to start with Sky because of graphics:
Cold Steel 1-2 > Sky > Zero/Azure > Cold Steel III-IV > Hajimari > Kuro
In either case you're in for a wild ride.

mexicans love to self insert as anime main characters
That's because Mexicans are anime characters.

Any link to them. Always like to snag those types of things to continue them on in case of corporate frickery.
derp. Thanks.
So if you hate remakes/remasters do you always play the original game?
this should be a given.
unless it greatly surpasses the original, like Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.
What does the remake do that the original Odin Sphere doesn't?
enhances the combat/gameplay.
well, ok, in that case i played both. but i wouldn't recommend a newcomer the original.
how do you know if it surpasses without playing both?
Looks like rpg maker
which is the remaster? left looks better

How do you guys like Y's?
from seeing the older games, it seems like a lot is lost in the newer gameplay, yet 8 seems to be everyone's favorite.
Ys8 is best out of the worst Ys games.
I would suggest playing YS1,2 then Napishtim, Felghana and Origin and ignoring everything else.
Got one of my friends into Ys before XSeed started putting them on steam. He refuses to touch any of the new ones (read: Seven onwards), as he views them as completey unrecognizable to the older entries, trying to court the Kiseki/waifugay audience.
What got me into Y's in the first place was seeing 30% of Humanity is Dead. https://youtu.be/V6p36CRpayY
as well as https://youtu.be/0Z8lLMi-IEw?t=265 popping up in my recommended when I was searching for more info on Ys.
Depends on when you got into Ys.
Most westerners first Ys was VIII since that's the one that got really popular.
For the overwhelming majority of people who have been playing them for a long time, its far more common to see them say that their favorites are I & II, OiF, or Origin.
Ys looks like he shops at Hot Topic in the most recent game
Lol, I thought the same.
The character design in IX is such absolute dogshit.
I played the evo version on vita and it was alright. Maybe it's because I never played the original but I don't really give a frick about the portraits. I care more for the soundtrack but you can swap to the classic one.
I imagine there would be 100x more whining about this if the remakes were translated.
>you could swap to the classic one
more devs should do that, or just, don't even touch a masterpiece AT ALL
Explain to me what makes right better?
Left one looks way better so I hope that's the remastered one.
Which one is the remaster?
how many times are you guys going to asking this question?
it's answered multiple times by now
Nowadays, I just expect every thread with more than 50 replies devolved in some kind of political shitfest so I did not bother reading the replies
さすが、焼人
The whole series becomes forever soulless roughly halfway through Ao, though Cold Steel 1 still had great music and few good scenes.
>though Cold Steel 1 still had great music
That's funny because that reminds me how the best track in Cold Steel 4 is a fricking Super Arrange that was released back in 2006.
how is the zero and azure soundtrack?
those two are next on my "to play" list
Zero and Azure are often rated among the best OSTs.
Played all the games that are released. I hate Cold Steel but
OST RANKING
3rd (magnus opus, perfection) > Trails to Zero > Cold Steel 1 > Trails to Azure > Cold Steel 2 > Second Chapter > First Chapter >>>>>>>> Cold Steel 4 >>>>>> Cold Steel 3
Cold Steel 3 and 4 have the best final dungeon music and final boss music, but I found all the map music forgettable from crossbell onward
Crossbell has great area themes, you are on crack.
I meant from after crossbell. My apologies. The Mining Town probably has some of the best music
I think CS1 has some pretty great town themes too.
Outside of Roer? I think they are pretty forgettable. Its been a while since I played 1 and 2 admittedly. 1-2 have fantastic battle tracks and "big frick all event music" though. Atrocious Raid, Exceed, and "To become the foundation of an era" are all amazing
Hmm, I never actually noticed that. Pretty kino though
In Cold Steel 2, when you're in the final dungeon, as Osborne's theme kicks in at 3:33, is one of the most kino musical moments in any Trails game, and fitting too since the final dungeon is literally in Heimdallr.
reuse*
>merely pretending
>no actual goals of his own
please just restart the whole series starting with Ao.
The character assassinations of Osborne, Lechter, Claire, among a few others are crimes that should never be forgiven or forgotten about.
Cold Steel 3's final dungeon music?
Absolutely, but I prefer Sky 3rd's final dungeon music.
4's final dungeon music doesn't do it for me.
Kuro's final dungeon music is fricking great, though.
I like 4's final dungeon music in the context of the final boss more than the final dungeon. Even if the final boss was very stupid conceptually when they forewent a potentially better and interesting ending for the absolute pile of shit one we got, I loved the design of that thing.
Spiral of Erebos is fricking GOAT but 3rd is also a very acceptable choice for the best
People who bought Cold Steel asked for this. They are the new falcomshits.
Kek, did they just Google 'wall textures'?
Did they run out of budget and couldn't add the carpet back?
The floor is not fricking filthy now so there was no need.
This song literally got me to purchase an incan pan flute.
Unfortunately I have 0 rhythm and I live in an apartment complex and the flute is loud as frick.
>Left
>Asuke
>Right
>Asuna
I rest my case.
Which one is the remaster? I seriously hope it's not the one on the right.
How many times are you going to post this bait anon? It's like the 5th time this thread alone.

Where the leitmotif that started it all began: 1:49
The pure kino it gave us
I will now once again spend the day listening to Silver Will on repeat.
Game is shit either way
midwit take, also filtered.
>Take
How to tell me you're in the low end of the bell without telling me
I don't give explanations to morons, sorry
Lowkey agree with this mid statement bruh
Like deadass I uninstalled the game after 3 hours
no shot bro? no kizzy on a stack on a cap no printer
Okay so I want to play the sora trilogy in japanese. I'm playing the psp versions.
Original or HD kai versions for the first game?
Which of the 2 is the best?
will the trails games ever be good again?
They were never good
They were good in sky.
that looks awful
All they had to do was tone down the "this needs a scrubbing" on the stone floor. New portraits are ass.
why do they feel the need to change the portraits
it's not like the old ones had any "constraints"
Ah, so that's why I don't remember, that dungeon was so boring.
Why does that cat appear in so many Falcom games?
He's Kondo's waifu.
left looks better
>It's the early morning and you're checking on the residents before leaving on the train
MAXIMUM COZY AND COMFY
>Loved Trails in the Sky
>Hated Cold steel
I can't be the only one suffering with high expectations for a series like this. I was promised a great overarching story and it just fell short.
It's finally over, though, isn't it? They finally completed Rean's storyline?
Apparently so... we made it bros
Pic related.
>e-girl estelle in the swimsuit
Lmao
Yeah, you got a chronologically inaccurate Estelle, a dead girl, and someone who REALLY doesn't need fan service art due to the subject matter of her story.
But we get Scherazard
Scherazard is ugly as hell
>they're forced to come here to moralgay because they banned everyone they could preach to
you can't make this up lmao
it's in the falcom general in the OP
If you hate these people so much, why do you continue to stalk the shit out of their forum posts and Twitter timelines so much?
Top one is fan art, by the way.
To show to the world how insane they are
It's hard to sort out pictures from the game/manga/anime. But my point still stands.
Art direction has never been SO's strong suit. Nor any other aspects of those games, for that matter.
>But my point still stands.
No it doesn't because you didn't post the original art from the PS1 game which looks like dog shit.
Manga
Anime
Remake
Gacha game
I tried playing this game a while back, but I couldn't muster the will to finish it. The story was boring as frick and the combat was mindless button mashing.
>no don't post us!
it's scared
>didn't even consider checking /vg/
oh no I'm even more moronic than I thought
thanks anon for showing me the way

That pin-up is pretty tame compared to putting Renne in a swimsuit fan service scroll for Sky 3rd. The latter is way more tone deaf and weird.
Renne is now officially Kiseki's Queen of Spades
You seem... upset by fanservice
>doesn't need fan service art due to the subject matter of her story.
The hell does this even mean?
>The hell does this even mean?
The artist who made that was almost certainly clueless about the story. That art is chronogically nonsensical and as much as you guys love to make fun of the idiots on Resetera, the plot summary on
regarding Renne is accurate.
I don't really care about what moronera says but promo swimsuit fanservice isn't really weird for Trails and it's not even supposed to reflect on the character arcs. Besides Falcom did it in Crossbell and in Cold Steel so you're basically complaining about something that is a series' staple.
>Besides Falcom did it in Crossbell and in Cold Steel so you're basically complaining about something that is a series' staple.
Sure, they all have this generic early 2010s A1 Pictures look, but the level of QUALITY goes up with each entry - to the point where you get weird shit like uniboob Canone hear in 3rd Evo.
test post pls ignore
moron here
what does spreadsheet translation mean?
trying to set up Reverie and that just makes me think I'm gonna have to pull up Excel while I'm playing
>trying to set up Reverie and that just makes me think I'm gonna have to pull up Excel while I'm playing
That's what you once had to do, but these days there are overlay programs that can put the spreadsheet's translation on the screen. I think someone even managed to hack large chunks of that spreadsheet into the game's actual text.
I don't know the specifics, though. I've never used either myself and I'm probably gonna skip Hajimari anyway.
thanks frens, I couldn't find any direct translation patch but it's late here so I'll try again tomorrow
SOUL VS SOUL
I played the original version on PC recently. Why the hell does this game need a remaster? It is totally acceptable, fits the resolution and frame rate of the monitor correctly and the graphics hold up very well.
XSeed's PC versions are custom builds that cobble together features from several versions of the game, as well as adding their own features like turbo mode. They're not really representative of the game's Japanese releases. The original PC releases of the Sky games in Japan were VERY barebones by comparison.
I haven't played this yet, what's the name of the version on the left so I don't torrent the wrong one?
Soul
Souless
I like how Rena gets de-aged with literally every new version of SO2. Game > anime (SOEX) > manga > PSP remake each has her become smaller.
If everyone hates Rean why keep posting Rean
even Rean haters love Rean
Litreally Soul vs Soulless.
not played this garbage. the ss on the right supposed to be the remaster? lololololololol
ZINGA!
Play Musse's game
Gross anon
Found the gay
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see the mod's source.
LoversLab
>loverslab hosting mods for small and flat underage characters
Impossible.
Except it isnt. Go check yourself
I played every single Trails game.
Musse my wife
What's the rundown on Ys, do you have to start from the first game?
Nah, Each game basically gives you the rundown of who Adol is and are pretty self contained
You can start really anywhere you like. Only returning characters are just Adol, Dogi, and Lilia to some extend but their relationships are truly just friends and Lilia likes Adol. Start with whatever game looks fun to you
Left = Soul
Right = Soulless
soul>souless
Why did the character profiles get such a downgrade? Who thinks right looks better than left?!
WHY IS MY PRESENT A BOY
You should feel ashamed of yourself, replying to such a low effort OP making this one of the top threads on the board...
I hate the old art-style so much.
Thoughts on the Ys IV remake, Ys Memories of Celceta?
dog shit
Worst in the series for now.
It's the worst Ys game and that has nothing to do with the art.
sed
Some of the Cold Steel games are on sale on ps4. Do I go in order(I, II, III, etc.) or is there other shit I need to play and how much fanservice is there some of the girls look hot.
Go in order, nothing else is important.
You can start with Cold Steel or the older games
But the Sky games have shitty Working Designs tier localizations, and the others only have shitty fan translations, so it's better to just start with Cold Steel.
Are you even trying?
Play Estelle's games Ganker
Are they loaded with bullshit? Or are they fun?
They're okay.
literally soul // soulless
holy frick how could they do this?
This is one of the most unironic soul vs soulless examples I've ever seen
