as a kid whose mom did take them, it wasn't really about feeling special it was just a cool experience to have to do something external to the game.
Even when I didn't get an event it made me want to trade with others to try to get the pokemon I want which was also fun.

Mythicals were never rare since the term hasn't been used until the DS days where they could easily added through cheats or some android app
FOMO is gay, bugman. In an ideal scenario mythicals would be locked behind some kind of difficult challenge ingame but I’ll take the slightly less shitty unceremonious gift over Mons being exclusive to events held in STORES.

Mythicals not being locked behind events anymore is the absolute best thing Game Freak's done with the series, for every other frickup they've ever made. I hope they keep doing it.
I never cared about this. There are no mythicals that I like so why would I want any. Only Magearna is decent.

The Mew distribution events just didn't exist.

Nintendo did frickin nothing in regards to distributing Mew in the US to actual kids who bought and played their games, and I think that's fricked. They did nothing for YEARS. Gen I, II, III, they did the bare fricking minimum. In your post you even said you NEED a gameshark, and that's dumb as frick.
I SHOULD be able to get Mew in an accessible fashion, and Nintendo did no such thing.

Also now it's impossible to get Mew legitimately if you have old game cartridges. That's double fricked.
