That would be a better argument if all FF games were actual sequels of eachother instead of completely separate games that happen to share some core concepts and gameplay elements.
FF16 is already essentially a "new IP" compared to FF15, just as FF15 is sparate from FF14, and so forth. Several of the FF games do have actual sequels, but those are never the mainline numbered games.

The type of combat doesn't matter here. BG3 is a true RPG with a lot of freedom and choices that matter, FF is a corridor simulator with cinematics in between.

If a reviewer gives a low score to a game, then the publisher won't give them review copies in the future.
If they don't get an early review copy, then they can't make a review in the first place.

Turn based combat is still very "in" for western PC gamers, but a lot of console gamers and especially young Jap console gamers don't like it. There's a reason lots of Persona "fans" have either never played the games or play them on the easiest difficulty.
