Prototype 1/2 was always cool and honestly I respect a dead IP rather than game devs buying the rights and making a shot in the dark "comeback" like saints row.

I always adored this about Prototype. Alex was a complete piece of shit, the virus who thinks its Alex ends up having a better moral compass than the homosexual it latched onto.
my issue with 2 wasn't with Heller, despite Mercer being a better character, but how the plot was nonsensical and Mercer was downright butchered

The problem wasn't the black guy, it was that the game itself was trash. It has been 10+ years since I played it so I don't remember the details, only that Prototype 2 "streamlined" some of the stuff (which almost always means being dumped down), and the writing was horrible. To this day it was still the only video game I ever played where a character, let alone the protagonist, says out loud that he is going to "skull frick" someone with that exact wording.

No. Prototype was new IP from the start that Radical wanted to finally make after being licensed game factory for so long. Game got changed a lot tho just look up Prototype GDC 2008 Demo on youtube to see how game looked like at certain stage under Sierra so before Activision acquired Vivendi and made them redesign a lot of shit.

Didn't using the armor restrict you from using some other abilities? I vaguely remember being disappointed by restrictions placed on it. Anyways, Prototype 1 beats out inFamous, but InFamous 2 beats out both P1 and 2.

The virus who is our main character is not male or female, or white or black. The Alex Mercer we played in the first game was a virus who simply thought it was Alex because it consumed him first, and so only had his memories to form the foundation of itself.
So, there is no male or female protagonist, there would be a protagonist who could choose to be whoever it wanted to be at any given point.

It wasn't the character change, the actual gameplay mechanics were just worse than the first one. I went into it thinking Heller would be cool and I liked that he looked a lot tankier than Alex, but didn't make it far because of the combat.
The franchise was never good in the first place. Nothing of value was lost.
