Hookers are for fricking, games are for playing
Could've gotten a flashcart instead but you just had to feel the physical plastic for that specific game in your hand. You're not even getting the true experience of owning it, you're bootlegging a feel for some fake fricking plastic.
So basically owning the game = affection, playing the game = fricking.
>Could've gotten a flashcart instead but you just had to feel the physical plastic for that specific game in your hand.
I have a flashcart so no, i couldn't have, but the second part is entirely correct, especially for Shiren the Wanderer.
>You're not even getting the true experience of owning it, you're bootlegging a feel for some fake fricking plastic.
Oh yes, i'm guessing the true experience is owning an untranslated SFC cart and having to break the tabs off my SNES cart slot to fit it? If there was a legitimate cart, is would get that, there isn't.

>Oh yes, i'm guessing the true experience is owning an untranslated SFC cart and having to break the tabs off my SNES cart slot to fit it? If there was a legitimate cart, is would get that, there isn't.
No you fricking dumbass. You own the untranslated/original for your collection, and then play the translated ROM on a flashcart.
Are you moronic? the repro is just a plastic housing the translated ROM, which is what a FLASHCART is for.
kek.
Anon don't fall for lowlife hustles such as etsy bootleg sellers. The fun of repros is doing your own, otherwise it's just a pointless money sink that could be replaced with an everdrive.
its more like paying for a hooker that's actually a robot who looks and fricks just like the real thing but is slightly lower quality occasionally stops working
Worst of the gaming community right here on display for the world to see. Who cares if they're repros. Games are not investments, they're nothing more than a fun timekiller. The argument against repro carts is moronic.
Maybe I wannna have a cool looking cart on my shelf? I have flash carts, and I enjoy them, but sometimes I buy repro carts just to have a nice little shelf piece. It's not like you're spending a fortune on them, they're less than a night out at the bar. Do you hate fun or something?
Yeah, tried to avoid the ebay/aliexpress ones. One i got has the fixed translation and fixed bugs like that one gun shop one.
This is part of why I'm not into getting repros of hacks. The hack might have glaring bugs going on that aren't obvious at first , or be improved a lot shortly after the cart's been made.
OCDReproductions, they used to use donor carts i believe unfortunately? Though seem to be using aftermarket parts now like shells. Though unsure on the cart boards tho, perhaps still from a donor, cant open to confirm.
Can confirm on their sterling quality. I used them for an Earthbound repro and it was great using it. And yes, they used to use donor carts before but it was 99% garbage shovelware and sports stuff, the kind of stuff nobody collects or cares much for.
You’re better off buying a flash cart for repro RPGs. They aren’t good quality. I was about to get the last silver orb on dragon Quest 3 for the Super NES and it just suddenly shit the bed and just stopped working. Same happened to to a secret of mana 2 cart. The sage just died it was only a few weeks old.

Funny story, as a kid around 7-8 years ago I bought from the same shop cause I didn't know flashcarts were a thing, the cart is bought (Copy of Hyper Metroid) still works. Even has a battery holder in case the CR2032 goes out. Yes there are shit quality Repros like from Alliexpress and Etsy, but there's also the other side of the coin.
You just gave money to a scammer who put free roms in plastic for you. You got duped over the authentic experience meme.
>You just gave money to a scammer who put free roms in plastic for you. You got duped over the authentic experience meme.
You really seem to assume i wanted them for "Le authenticity". No, I wanted them because I like to own things I like or feel I will like, by any means necessary. I can use a flashcart just fine, I just wanted to own an english copy of the SFC SMT games and Shiren The Wanderer.
>Except for money, it seems.
Says a lad possibly spending money on flashcarts/scalers/official physical carts/ or if you're an emulation person, the hardware to emulate at all, yes I am black, so are you Pot.
Since I couldn't afford to get Starfox 2 back then, I had to resort to getting a repro. It was a pretty decent week playing it, finally trying the game I read about but was always beyond my means to get it.
OCDReproductions, they used to use donor carts i believe unfortunately? Though seem to be using aftermarket parts now like shells. Though unsure on the cart boards tho, perhaps still from a donor, cant open to confirm.
i don't get the autism about repros. it's not MY thing (i emulate or use flash carts) but even official carts are just a rom on a chip encased in plastic. im just happy that people still enjoy retro games, however they want to do it
What's not to get? It's a fake chink plastic game with no original parts.
Buying the original game for your collection if you have to have it, untranslated/unreleased in your home country, then emulating the translation, etc. is literally the ideal way to do it.
If a repro costs $20 and has no merit over a flashcart besides looking nicer on a coffee table, why not buy a nice artbook instead?
You can get a piece of real, original non-reproduction merchadise for a similar price.
I love it when moronic autists show up that absolutely can not accept people do things and want to do things differently than the moronic group home autist has decided things have to be done. love these sperg outs they have
I don't mind that other people like things I don't like, it just seems like a strange decision to me as a collector.
To me part of the appeal of collecting old games I could just as easily emulate is the experience of having a piece of history in my hands.
When you hold a game you cherish it has a weight to it that's difficult to describe. It's like you've now become part of that story, even if in a small way. To me, that experience would be diminished a little if I knew what I was holding was just a replica.
I also like knowing that me doing my best to take good care of my games could someday turn into a significant inheritance for someone else after I'm gone should prices for retro games continue to increase, which is unlikely to ever be the case for a repro.
But if OP is really spending their money in a way that fills their life with joy, I'm all for it.
In any case, I hope OP enjoys the games. I find the early entries in the series are especially good if you really try to drink in the atmosphere, so try to play them at night if you can, it adds a lot to the experience.
I own an original US/JP copy of Super Metroid, F-Zero, etc. So I can attest to having that feeling, especially with SM.
Also oh yes, I love the atmosphere of the first SMT games, specifically the soundtrack cause I cannot recall any other game outside of SMT that sounds like it. While I don't play at night, my room is always dark due to black out curtains, same deal, pic related.
If someone collects games with the idea that they are a piece of history, I have no problem with that. But if you're going to go with that, then part of that history is the box, the manual, anything else that comes with it. It's a package, not just a cartridge. You want to collect old games, then collect them as they were released, and display them as collector's items, don't play them. There's a difference in collecting something old and actually playing with it, meaning you need to get and maintain ancient hardware and keep it all working, not just display it as is without any care that it works.
If you want to collect games, then collect them as they should be collected and display them as a collection. If you want to PLAY the games? Emulate. It's that simple.

>giving money to repro sellers who use fan translations/romhacks >meaning they frick not only the game publishers and developers but also the translators >and (You) support this
I mean, all have a well soldered battery holder. If anything its cause the battery they put in are bad in which case I can just pop a new one in.
I think people need to learn there are varying ranges of quality with Repro's. There's chink Aliexpress, to Retro-Bit Wily Wars, and everything in between.
Buying a repro is like getting nothing but a hug from a hooker, you're paying for the wrong part of the experience
Fricks the right part? Literally all but two are japan exclusive, the other having a DS remake and a delisted IOS port.
Hookers are for fricking, games are for playing

You mom hugged you plenty.
>gameplay is the wrong part of the experience
Coomlectors everyone.
>buying bootlegs
>not just a poor coomlector
lol
You're right. Anyone who's smart about spending money would just buy a flashcart.
I mean, I have an SD2SNES m8, I just like owning a playable copy of games I really like. An untranslated RPG isn't playable for me.
its more like paying for a hooker that's actually a robot who looks and fricks just like the real thing but is slightly lower quality occasionally stops working
Worst of the gaming community right here on display for the world to see. Who cares if they're repros. Games are not investments, they're nothing more than a fun timekiller. The argument against repro carts is moronic.
the carts are just "vessels" to play the game, if you're not buying the original, why buy at all? especially if you have a flashcart.

I'd never buy a SMT1 repo because people who hock repos are moronic and would just burn the Aeon patch.
Yeah, tried to avoid the ebay/aliexpress ones. One i got has the fixed translation and fixed bugs like that one gun shop one.
Oh that's cool. Well have fun, 1 and 2 are awesome. I hope 2 gets patched on PS1.

Indeed you will, enjoy.
I recently got filtered by the SFC Megami Tensei 1 port
repros are fine if they're only like $10

Putting it in plastic is why he paid them yes.

What do you get out of this, anon? What do you do all day?
us
>What do you do all day?
Search for threads to post those photos, probably.
Where do you get good repros that arent chinkshit and dont rely on donor carts?
OCDReproductions, they used to use donor carts i believe unfortunately? Though seem to be using aftermarket parts now like shells. Though unsure on the cart boards tho, perhaps still from a donor, cant open to confirm.
Repros are garbage. If you want the game, get a flashart, and then buy the original game as a display piece.

have a nice day gideon

Hi Gideon.
They don't own the game obviously but they own anything they made
Repro vs flashcart battles
Yes only a few weeks because after that the save on your repro will corrupt and wipe.
A chinese everdrive costs less than all those repros, why would you buy that
The only thing worse than consooomers are consooomers of repro shit
Emulate or Everdrive
