The gameplay was RE6 lite and the dialogue was vomit inducing. No, it was not good. It had okay parts but they weren't stitched together particularly well, the flow was off.
7 has extremely memorable presentation but I would say the director made a better balanced game when he did Rev1. 7's level designs and enemy variety is just too lacking to say it was great. A mechanical course correction, 110%, but the depth wasn't quite there and 2make did better in this regard. In a way, it did more to push 7's raw gameplay forward than be a remake of 2.

Yeah but I suspect it won't be nearly as QTE-intensive as the original fight. I suspect we'll only see QTEs for escape or enemy knockback scenarios like you mentioned. Nothing like the entire Krauser fight, laser dodging or running away from boulders; things like that.

it was very useful for searching homes for items. gave you a solid 30 seconds minimum, plenty of time to also head upstairs and jump through a window.

There's no reason not to, though some windows are placed before you get the barricades so I always just end up doing the same ones, I doubt anyone doesn't barricade the window by the dark room

the reason many games were advertised as "cinematic" at that time was to legitimize a medium that was widely (and accurately) considered to be electronic toys. The popularity of disc based consoles allowed much better graphics, full motion video, and more "realistic" expressions of in-game fictional worlds that at the time were only really seen on film. Resident Evil in particular, definitely leans into traditional horror cinema tropes, (just look at the pre-rendered fixed camera BG's) but it doesn't PLAY like a movie game, as the term is generally used.

You unironically have no idea what you're talking about. The melee moves from 4 are there and faster than they were before. You absolutely can manually aim the knife, but the qte implimentation is meant to be fast and fluid instead of you awkwardly holding down L to swing it.
Also, complaining about bullet sponge enemies is fricking stupid. They made sense in Remake 2, given that it was balanced around nightmare arrange 2's zombie HP counts. In Remake 4, there is zero Indication that the enemies have bloated HP counts.

What makes 4 good is the gunplay, sound design and enemy feedback. Guns are fun to shoot and sound great. Shooting an enemy sounds great and theay have a lot of reactions to getting hit. NONE of this applies to any nu re engine re game. Especially 8 and if that is anything to go by I doubt 4make will be any better.
They're schizophrenic and barely remember the games they're praising. The "demake 2" posters are a prime example of this, making up ridiculous shit like saying OG 2 was somehow a longer, and harder game. It's also clear they only played the piss easy babby versions of the game instead of the Sourcenext or DC versions.
Other than whatever the frick is going on with that rain, I think this looks way better than I expected it to. This and the Dead Space remake being better than anyone thought it would be is a sort of melancholy feeling in that we are already remaking games that aren't terribly old to begin with and are finding them to be some of the most shining examples of games moving forward.

Because the sound design took a massive nosedive ever since they started using the re engine. Shooting ganados is fun in 4, shooting in 8 is probably the most unfun gunplay I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing in any game with guns. Doesn't help that enemies basically don't react to getting shot and only one enemy can get headshots and it sounds like shit as well.

What did you expect? It's exactly like this in RE2/3 remakes as well, your shots have no impact if they aren't dismembering. I've never understood why people kept hyping RE4R by using RE2R as an example of why it'll be good. RE4's gameplay fundamentally does not mesh with how those games work, they are too slow and cumbersome for RE4. So only result was always going to be either reformatting RE4s gameplay into something it isn't, or it becoming a disastrous mess of incongruent parts. They went for the former.

I think that every major RE will get a remake, even RE1 again as they're running out of them fast. the CV:X fan remake project was shut down recently for a reason.
I'm curious what the first was (and more specifically the first to use this same square UI where you double click a button to select the next one). I get why they do it. Everyone's so obsessed with the immersion due to high graphic fidelity, but going into your suitcase or backpack really doesn't detract from the flow of the gameplay or the immersion. I really don't understand the justification for all these modern gaming sensibilities.

you're missing the point. games can be whatever they want and it isn't any more or less immersive. the devs need only commit to it and make the experience good for the player who will (if patient and not a braindead zoomer) adapt to it and allow themselves to be swept up in this experience. nobody complained about this shit nearly 20 years ago. modern game devs have become so lazy in that they just copy whoever was last successful. very few commit to a unique vision especially those who solely develop triple A games. that's another matter and is done for obvious reasons. they're much like Hollywood in they just put out slop for morons to enjoy because they can't afford to task risks. these modern games have to essentially be fence sitters, incorporating a tiny bit of one genre (usually RPGs) until the game becomes an amalgamation of *everything* (for the sake of extending the playtime of their game with ironically admitted shallow gameplay) but lacking any real identity (see: Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarok, any other modern slop).

They literally said recently there were no cuts and only things were added. That statement meant they're not doing a total reimagining of the game like with Remake 2, rather they're making tasteful changes.

Holy hell, i was always disappointed by the pussified deaths scenes in RE2 Remake. Guess they decided to just show everything off now.
Sure it was violent for the zombies but deaths scenes for Leon or Claire was really meh. You never see Leon or Claire get decapitated by the lockers or even when MR X crushes your head its always somewhat off screen.
I guess if you ignore Resident Evil 7 and 8, Monster Hunter World and Rise, DMC5, Megaman 11, the upcoming Street Fighter, Dragon's Dogma and Pragmata, I guess modern Capcom really only have remakes

I don't think it works that way. Eyes don't just pop out, there's kind of a lot connective tissue and muscle keeping them in place, and even if they did there's not a gap to get your fingers in and behind the eyes to pull them out.

it was very useful for searching homes for items. gave you a solid 30 seconds minimum, plenty of time to also head upstairs and jump through a window.

It's been proven this one particular zombie has extra health or resistance to critical hits for whatever reason. I think because it's supposed to wake up when you grab the key and they didn't want you to easily skip the problem.
There's a thing called focus shots, when you stand still for 5 seconds your crosshair will become a single dot and you will get full accuracy and the minimal chance of a critical shot

Resident Evil in particular, definitely leans into traditional horror cinema tropes, (just look at the pre-rendered fixed camera BG's) but it doesn't PLAY like a movie game, as the term is generally used.

Tbh dumpsters are only useful in one part of the game (the sisters with chainsaws), I never used one in the entire game, same goes with Ashley's life bar, you can beat the game without healing her once, enemies don't even attack her it's always accidentally when they try to attack you which can be easily avoided. As long as she can still die or get kidnapped is enough to give you tension

What makes 4 good is the gunplay, sound design and enemy feedback. Guns are fun to shoot and sound great. Shooting an enemy sounds great and theay have a lot of reactions to getting hit. Honestly, from what I've seen it has that same weird problem from RE2R where shooting zombies just doesn't feel good. It's hard to explain. Basically they made this engine specifically for RE7/8/2R where it's supposed to feel like shit when you have to use bullets on enemies because they're so sparse. It doesn't translate well to an action game.

Because the sound design took a massive nosedive ever since they started using the re engine. Shooting ganados is fun in 4, shooting in 8 is probably the most unfun gunplay I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing in any game with guns. Doesn't help that enemies basically don't react to getting shot and only one enemy can get headshots and it sounds like shit as well.

What did you expect? It's exactly like this in RE2/3 remakes as well, your shots have no impact if they aren't dismembering. I've never understood why people kept hyping RE4R by using RE2R as an example of why it'll be good. RE4's gameplay fundamentally does not mesh with how those games work, they are too slow and cumbersome for RE4. So only result was always going to be either reformatting RE4s gameplay into something it isn't, or it becoming a disastrous mess of incongruent parts. They went for the former.

That would be an odd choice. The Chapter-Act layout is good, every Chapter has a theme or an overarching goal over the course of its 4-5 acts.

It's getting shit cut, just not major things like bosses or iconic scenes. But just look at the Village map on GameInformer, half the areas are gone. The path from the start of the game to the Lake is literally 40% the number of areas as the original.
They literally said recently there were no cuts and only things were added. That statement meant they're not doing a total reimagining of the game like with Remake 2, rather they're making tasteful changes.

Sure it was violent for the zombies but deaths scenes for Leon or Claire was really meh. You never see Leon or Claire get decapitated by the lockers or even when MR X crushes your head its always somewhat off screen.

I don't think it works that way. Eyes don't just pop out, there's kind of a lot connective tissue and muscle keeping them in place, and even if they did there's not a gap to get your fingers in and behind the eyes to pull them out.

Remake 3 released the way it was because of enormous mid development cuts, with Capcom choosing to focus on that awful multiplayer game - and likely shifted budget to VIII. We'll never get the full story, but it was obviously a financially based decision.
There are huge sections of Racoon City left in the code and Nemesis has proper tracking for those sections of the city.
