Agreed. 6 was so fricking over the top it was moronic, it was like the boulder scene from 5 but 24/7. But 5 was amazing coop with a friend, genuinely some of the funnest multiplayer I ever played.

It was top tier until around code veronica, then RE1 remake came out and catapulted it into goat status then zero took it downhill again. Resident evil 4 came out and it made the series take a nose dive. It didn't come out of that dive until re7. It's anything but consistently good
4 is one of the best games ever made and both fans and critics recognize it

Everything after 4 that wasn't a remake was awful. They turned every character into literal fricking Marvel heroes while moving away from the dark noirish survival horror theme of the first 3. Survivor and 4 were good deviations from this but it should have never become the main goal of the franchise. Village 2 was OK. You also left out Operation Racoon City. It's easy for you to praise a franchise when you're completely ignorant of what makes its identity and of the series's failures.
ORC is a spinoff and rarely in any series are spinoff actually good. Zelda and Mario both have some wretched spinoffs. Also i think both revelations games were quite solid

Both of this can be true. The problem is that RE abandon it's core thematic style and gameplay when it ran out of story telling ideas. They panicked with Code Veronica and Survivor. They didn't know how to tell a story without Raccoon City and frankly they still don't. That's where the story should be. That's where the real world and character building has always been. The mechanical execution, graphics, and story telling in the remakes isn't what puts them over the top. It's the fact that you're home. RE without Raccoon City is Mario with Bowser.
I thought 7 was a step in the right direction plot wise, it is odd how reluctant they are to include zombies, of the non remake games post 0, only 6 had them and revelations 2 had them in barry’s sections
For someone thay really doesn't care for 7, I still applauded them have restraint with the story for the game....until it ended and I my eyes rolled into the back of my head and then with 8, my eyes rolled so far back, I saw portions of my brain. Honestly, RE4 story of just ditching everything for its own thing was a godsent and I wish we got more RE games like that.

without a doubt and a snow balls chance in hell it was bad. I dont get why people even attempt to say "maybe it was a little bad?" this was a REMAKE game of a greatest hits title from the 90s on psx and they fricked it up to the point its a skidmark on their remake brand title card.
I personally kinda agree, but I dislike Code Veronica and 8. Not bad games in and of themselves but not to my taste.

I'm interested to see what it is. I don't think they will catch lightning in a bottle twice, nor will it be a 1:1 remake. I'm just hoping for a fun game that I find myself replaying, much in the way that I love both 2 and 2Remake.

7 has references to revelations by showing a book obrien wrote, it even references alyssa in outbreak. Village references 5 too and so does revelations 2

Not at all, given the entire RE5-6 era. VII and Remake 2 were great, but REmake 3 is shit and Village is mediocre.

RE3R isn’t actually a bad game when looked at in a vacuum, it’s just not as good as the original, but as a solo experience, it’s a competent if short game
it's obvious if it wasn't by now that the team just wanted to get to 4, what I'm curious about at this point is if they'll keep going and remake 5, and if they'll completely change the tone of the game to be less like a cheesy action movie if the do.

As a huge fan, I disagree. Sure, for numbered games, there's only a few bad games, but dear lord the spin off games are not just bad bur some of the worst games I've ever played.

While this thread is RE related, I thought that in RE4 I would actually play in the village throughout the game. While I don't think the castle is bad, I just think the village was much scarier.
