Pretty good games, 3 was the best.
based, I wish someone would make a ultimate Super Butoden romhack that uses a mix of the Butoden 2 and 3 gameplay but has all the characters from both games, as well as Butoden 1 and Buu yuu Retsuden

Frick off Toriyama and stop making Tenshithan a volcel
It's weird that Toriyama forgot about Ten, he's easy to draw and cool as frick. His fight with Goku in the 22nd tenkaichi is still one of my favorite fights in the entire series, he was a badass guy. Maybe it's just that Ten wasn't popular enough after Piccolo, Trunks and Vegeta were introduced.
Once we get a Turtle school movie, he'll be relevant again.
Agreed. Piccolo and Ten both get tossed aside by MUH SAIYAN POWAH homosexualry, because Japanese boys are apparently fricking moronic and only want SAIYAJIN POWAH!! or moeblob girls.
I can understand not wanting to steal the MC's show but come on.
Also, in reference to OP...
>SUPER BOTUDEN GOKUDENDENBOTU GOKUBOKUGEN DENSENTODOTUSU BAKUDENSU DEN DEN BODU BUU-SAMA TO DEN
wut?
Raging Blast or Budokai Tenkaichi. These are good.
Also, that Dragonball GBA game.
>wut?
Butoden are some of the most popular dbz games, c'mon.
Super Gokuden are less popular outside of Japan because they're text heavy, but they're also among the best and are fan favorites in Japan.
Gekitouden is one of the original Game Boy games
I was joking about the names. They all kinda blend together.
Everything about DBZ blends together.
DB in general just has a ton of concepts beyond Saiyans that could be fleshed out more. But Goku makes the big bucks.
I know. It's stupid. It makes you wonder if Toriyama's a homosexual or just greedy. How much control does he have over DB? If he has a lot nowadays he has no damn excuse for what he's done with DBSuper.
>ooooooooh ultra instinct! it's not like Goku was already godly fast and could read and dodge opponent's attack in DBZ, NOPE!
Frick off. Stop powering this fricker up. Work on his character, and other characters. Bring magical enemies into the stories that can scoff at ki attacks.
They've just Marvel'd/DC'd the franchise at this point.
People forget pretty much all of DBZ was written and drawn on the fly, with the original concept being "it will only be a couple of chapters" and that it would have ended with Vegeta, and then it would have ended with Freeza, so and so forth. Pretty much every instance there was a lull in the creative process and it seemed like things were calming down, the overnight success in the readership was having Toriyama back at his desk constantly. I don't think Toriyama was really considering anything truly deep or long-term, he was able to continue turning out content that pleased his audience, which was Japanese schoolboys. That's it really, DBZ gets painfully overanalysed when really the deepest thing about it is what set of puns are the theme of the current story arc. Nowadays, it wouldn't surprise me if Toriyama really doesn't give a shit, he was basically resting on a bed of money by the time DBZ ended, and if people want constant rehashes of Z content, I guess all he has to do is sign off on it. Doesn't he have student artists doing everything for him now anyway?
I just wish he had taken his characters that HE INVENTED once he had control, and maybe explored them more.
DBZ as you say was exactly like that and when you read/rewatch it you can see how it was supposed to end. Again. And again.
I still love DB up through Z but Super just blew my GAF away.
>so they're literally doing the exact same shit as always? But you turned their hair blue? Phone it in.
I wanna go back to when King Kai(Kaio-sama) was the big dick. It was funny because he was kind of a layabout on some tiny planet. That was funny, and it made sense that GOD would be some dude that liked his classic car and lived a peaceful life on his lil planet with a grasshopper and a monkey.
Being a child is liking Dragonball Super.
Being a teen is liking Dragonball Z.
Being an adult is liking Dragonball.
This is why GT is ultimately better than Z because at the end of the day it was only 60 episodes and wrapped it up with a bow on top. Yeah yeah it was more Goku but at least it felt like everyone had stepped forwards in time instead of whatever this circular time loop it's in now. It's so weird too that Super is basically Dragon Ball AF in which everything is a recolour and a rehash.
>Being a child is liking Dragonball Super.
>Being a teen is liking Dragonball Z.
>Being an adult is liking Dragonball.
This is so r*ddit lol
But it's true. I've watched all three series. I will NEVER watch Super again, but I'm watching DB intermittently right now. Watching Goku fight the RR Army alone while helping random people and exploring pirate caves and then fighting a demon king to save the world is STILL rewarding.
Blue hair is fricking stupid. Goku's fights against Roshi in the first tourney and Ten in the second are so much better that fighting some grey-skinned bug-eyed alium from some moronic place that never existed before DBZ.
At least Majin Buu had his plot armor regen shit to make the fight harder. Jiren is a homosexual and nobody cares about whatever the frick he is. Utterly stupid.
That is why Dragon Ball Adventure on GBA is by far the best DB game, thinking back on it.
Thank GOD the Chrono series wasn't butchered like this BTW.
BOTUDEN GOKUDENDENBOTU GOKUBOKUGEN DENSENTODOTUSU BAKUDENSU DEN DEN BODU BUU-SAMA TO DEN
Not as bad as all the frickery that is the western names of 6th gen DBZ games
>BUDOKAI
>BUDOKAI TENKAICHI
>TENKAICHI BUDOKAI
>KODABUDO KUNKANICHI
>KUNICHIKI BUDUKAI
>Japanese franchise uses Japanese words
"Budokai Tenkaichi" is wrong, the japanese original is Tenkaichi Budokai. I don't know what the frick were the localizers smoking with that one. The original japanese title is DBZ Sparking, or something.
Anyway, it was in response to this guy:
>the japanese original is Tenkaichi Budokai.
clarifying: I meant the name of the tournament, not the games.
They were smoking the success of the prior PS2 games and wanted to make the new ones seem relevant.
Is that so? I think by just using the name Dragon Ball Z would be enough.
And if they wanted to use the words "Tenkaichi" and "Budokai", they could have went with the correct order.
It's as if they released a game called Ball Z Dragon.
Dude they really didn't care.
That's evident, but still weird Bandai or nobody from Japan corrected that error.
I guess they were like "haha silly gaijin"
Butoden is a great title

Dragon Ball Z: L'Appel du destin
Just found a pretty interesting video from a V-Jump event promoting Super Butoden 3
Full VHS rip here:
thanks for posting, historic footage
Toei won't let him do that though because the money is in Goku and Vegeta
Can anyone beat the beam pushing buttonmashing in level 4 CPU in Butoden 2?
I swear I can NEVER do it, it's impossible.
I can consistently do it on 3, but not on 2.
>fighting CPU
I know, and anyway I can beat them without using the beam, but I still am curious if anyone can actually do it.
Nah, the AI notoriously cheats through the counterattack option at that stage.
that's what I thought.
well, as I said I can still beat the CPU without resorting to special beam attacks, but damn.
In Butoden 3 they balanced the frick out of it and I don't think I ever lost to a beam clash in it even on level 4.
They really should have continued building upon Super Butouden 3, instead TOSE (most likely content to fulfil contractual obligations only) stagnated the formula up until Hyper Dimension, which to be honest is more of an improvement on presentation than anything.

I like the one for GBA anon
Which?
For me, it's Advance Adventure.
The amount of polish put into that game is ridiculous.
Yeah, that´s the one! Excellent game.

what the FRICK went wrong?
I spent an unhealthy amount of my teenage years playing Budokai 3.
The remasters for 1/3 just aren't the same without the stolen music, plagiarism unironically made these games better
Kenji Yamamoto deserved his career.
Butoden 2
Hyper dimension
DB Advance
Butoden 3
L'appel du destin
Tenkaichi 3
haven't played much else and Final Bout sucks
What's the absolute BEST music track in any DBZ game and why is it Trunk's Theme?
Which one though?
Any version but the Super Butoden 2 original.
The arranged version from the CD OST is also great.
can't beat a plagarisation of such caliber
either
or
Also these 3 are underrated
I don't think piccolo's theme is underrated, it's part of the super butoden 2 ost which is already considered legendary.
That saiyaman theme is pretty fun, was it also in UB22?
>That saiyaman theme is pretty fun, was it also in UB22?
Yes, that game and Shin Butoden uses the same music and sprites but one is 3D and the other 2D
I quite like UB22 for being the shitty digitised-sprites entry of the DBZ fighting games and for quintessentially being a 1995 Japanese PS1 game. Yeah, the visuals and audio are complete garbage, but the music is nice and the game is just about playable.
>it's part of the super butoden 2 ost
that's a different theme
It's the same piccolo theme, isn't it?
No, he even has a different theme in Super Butouden 1.
listen
oooh right, I got confused because it's also an older theme, from Super Gokuden Kakusei-hen
And this is from the arranged CD which someone kindly uploaded to youtube:
For me, it's Track 04 of super butoden 3
For me? It's Dragon Ball
The Legend
I only liked Budokai 1/2/3 for the capsule hunting to unlock more characters/forms. I doubt the combat is good going back to it.
Legacy of Goku 1/2 are awful, but I love them.
The Legendary Super Warriors card game was sick, but it's crazy difficult.
There's the GBA Dragon Ball game that looks fantastic, but the stages are tedious and boring.
I think that's all of the DBZ games worth playing unless you REALLY like bland, shallow anime arena fighters.
legacy of goku 1 sucks, but 2 is really good. Buu’s fury also good.
Final Bout plays like shit but I stick it on because there hasn't been a DB game with better audio, the music and sound effects are both excellent.
I am rewatching dragon ball after also rewatching z and dragon ball is a lot better than at least the last stretch of z. Everything after the evil part of buu splits off wasn’t worth watching again. In terms of the games, I hated the Rock Paper Scissors mechanic in fights in the budokai games (it might have just been 2 and 3 they implemented this in), including random chance in fights and having your story progress depend on RNG sucked.
Dragon ball z should be a turn based game always in my opinion, it matches the pace of the anime and manga fights better. Dragon ball is better represented by an action game
