GoldenEra just dropped yesterday, what did you guys think? I’m about to watch.
What other good retro game movies or docs would you recommend?
There was one I think it’s called Nintendo Quest or something where a guy tries to collect every Nintendo game. It was fun as a collector.
Noclip is a YouTube channel that does some decent ones too
When I used to watch G4, I love the Icons series.
The ones on Tim Schafer and Lucasarts adventure games were amazing.
The story of roller coaster tycoon
That upcoming doc on FPS' looks awesome, as well as the upcoming street fighter doc, "Here comes a new challenger"
Here's a really good look at early PlayStation history by G4
>paying money/signing up for a service just to watch something that's taken public information and changed the presentation
lol, no
It’s been released on Newsgroups, so I’m sure a ‘rent will pop up soon
>GoldenEar
That's what I thought it said
I truly don't get why people make such a big deal out of goldeneye
The idea of playing a fps on that clusterfrick controller, let alone any hadrware other a keyboard and mouse disgusts me.
As someone who played FPS in the 90s, GoldenEye's influence was never perceived or felt in any games that I played.
Do you think I'll learn anything of substance from this doc? Or is it a bunch of youtubers talking about their favorite game
Just admit you always played as oddjob in multiplayer and always got clowned
> GoldenEye's influence was never perceived or felt in any games that I played
This is bad comedy. The game practically created fps multiplayer. At the very least it popularized the concept, whereas on PC at the time we were still doing shoddy tcp/ip, ipx tunneling, or LAN’ing PCs, all of which sucked.
Although I was a PCgay early and sung praises of LAN or internet gaming as the best way to play any game multiplayer- you have to admit that sleepovers or party’s with multiple controllers and split screen gaming became a thing based on how awesome it was to compete in goldeneye with some friends. The jankiness is it’s charm
PC lans were comfy, but multiplayer fps meant next to nothing to me in the 90s. Still doesn't. Mostly seems like an autism magnet for collectathons
sounds like you have no friends
didnt meant ot strike a nerve autismo enjoy those team fortress hats
>The game practically created fps multiplayer.
Imagine being this moronic. LAN (ipx) parties were the thing during Doom 1 days.
It just wasn't for you then. That's fine, it would be really dull if everyone had that same elitist opinion you have. I know plenty of people who had many hours of fun on it, as well as playing fps' on LAN and appreciating both for what they are.
>"GoldenEye's influence was never perceived or felt in any games that I played."
>Didn't and doesn't play multiplayer fps
Well there you go, you answered your own question. Thanks for stopping by!
>most important video game ever
Nintendo cultists are delusional.
On the topic, documentaries by Ahoy, GPLaps' Revs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvNeGH50nuQ). I strongly not recommend Unforseen Consequences, however.
>I strongly not recommend Unforseen Consequences, however.
why
Production values are there, but i didn't really learn anything new from it, or at least i don't remember learning anything new specifically from from that documentary since it was 3 years ago. At the end, it was just some devs and e-celebs sharing their impressions on HL. But what ruined it for me was the section on game jam with some homosexual indie "devs" bragging about their kindergarten tier flash "homages" to Laidlaw's troon autofanfic.
Ecstacy of Order
Man vs Snake
King of Kong
The Smash Brothers (melee is retro now)
Documentary about game development in communist hungary:
(the communist hungary one is really great by the way, everyone should check it out)
Making of Shenmue
The official making or history of the Xbox series on YouTube is actually really good too.
Diggin' in the Carts, doesn't need the fluff of the hip-hop and electronic producer interviews, but the meat of the documentaries being interviews with folks like Hip Tanaka and Yuzo Koshiro are pure gold.
Did multiplayer shooters not exist before Goldeneye or something? Or did it just popularize bad console shooters where no one can aim?
Found these by chance a few months ago, pretty good.
